get a grip!
there's a time & place to have a cry you guys make me laugh. your kids team gets beat & its everyones fault, no wonder we don't have any decent young talent in the state all your kids are already superstars, they got cheated by the oposition, nothing to do but have a cry, blame the world and role over

Re: get a grip!
the point i and others are trying to make is that winning is far too important for some and the junior development programme at certain clubs or with certain coaches is second to development and promoting players through the ranks. pretty much the same as the progression for the better talent on many occasions to move from junior associations onto federation as the organisation, coaching, facilities, talent pool, better players and depth is generally a lot better than say the eastern borders on indeed the edjsa.Jeda wrote: there's a time & place to have a cry you guys make me laugh. your kids team gets beat & its everyones fault, no wonder we don't have any decent young talent in the state all your kids are already superstars, they got cheated by the oposition, nothing to do but have a cry, blame the world and role over
nothing against these magnificent bodies, its a great breeding ground for federation clubs.

Yep,winning is starting to become a real issue. I coach SSF and from what I see at certain times makes me cringe.IMO winning is worse than losing now as once some of these coaches and parents get a taste of it they just want more & more and then cant handle it when that inevitable loss comes knocking.
At the end of the day for every winner there is a loser but the way some people carry on it makes me want to give it all away.
I love winning as much as anyone but can handle defeat no problem as you can moan and whinge as much as you like but it aint gonna change a thing.
And honestly, does it really matter that much--------in U8's
My sole objective is to develop my kids and make sure they enjoy their kick around every week, you others can do what you like

I coached my sons under 8 team a few years ago. They won their first 10 games straight and were getting very cocky, saying they were unbeatable etc.Ginger Pele wrote:Yep,winning is starting to become a real issue. So I deliberately coached them to loose a game. Put the best kids on the bench, worst kid in goal etc. They lost and learnt a life lesson.
( They actually lost the next week to without me trying to but that is another story. )

I wish there were more coaches who had the same, sensible outlook with the kids' interests at heart. Sadly, far too many junior coaches think they're the next Guus Hiddink.Devils Advocate wrote:I coached my sons under 8 team a few years ago. Re: get a grip!
I totally agree nice one, too many coaches get way ahead of themselves and lose sight of the main objective in younger age groups and that is and most importantly to have fun and secondly to learn, and I'm not talking about systems etc but the basics. How to pass properly (both feet) head the ball, control and so on. Systems and so forth can wait until they're older. Our problem as adults is that WE enjoy the game more when we're winning and that's natural but t rubs off on the kids and winning starts to become the main focus. I guess we can go on and on with this but I do believe most have the right idea and small sided football s one of the better initiatives of the FFA and FFSA
Re: get a grip!
At what age do you think you should start teaching systems and not the basics jff ? Saw a zone Coach a few years back teaching systems and the team got smacked in most games and couldn't string 2 passes together

Re: get a grip!
Is there a right age? Personally, I reckon about 10 or 11 is normal to start getting them more organised but I think it very much depends on the individual group of players. I cannot for the life of me see the point in trying to teach them systems and responsibilities if they control a ball 5 yards off their shin, don't get their head up and see what's happening, can't pass accurately even if by some miracle the ball does stick to their foot, can't tackle without fouling, the list goes on an on. If you can't do the basics well then you spend way too much time thinking about things that should be second nature, to be able to concentrate on systems.rabbit wrote:At what age do you think you should start teaching systems and not the basics jff ? Re: get a grip!
I'll go for 12-13 Traditionally this is when players used to go to federation clubs and enter the phase into senior football. Maybe that's what has changed, federation clubs taking on junior teams under the age of 14 as I think that was the age group they used to start at, maybe that's why we've gone from 'coaching' juniors to win at all costs and lost sight of development. It makes some sort of sense well to me anyway
