Juniors cheating to win
I popped down Ad City junior ground last night and watched a junior game between Para Hills and Ad City, I'm pretty impartial when it comes to junior football but found myself really getting involved in the game which went right to the wire with Ad City winning 3-2 with a last minute penalty and had 2 sent off. During the game I was standing by the Ad City bench which had 5 players ready for play and 4 not changed but were part of the squad and on more than one occasion the Ad City coach turned to his bench players and asked their names and what position they played.
I know it's within the rules to drop players for any reason to play in a lower age group but surely their is some moral ethics that the coach should have, I wonder how he told the players that normally play within his team that they weren't good enough for the team on the night but we'll have you playing on the weekend.
I found this quite astonishing and wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't witnessed this myself. I was appalled.

He may not know their names because they could of been from a younger age group, so you shouldn't really jump to assume that the players had drop down. Also the players on then bench may have been sick, injured or suspended.

wrong forum mate
secondly, this happens at most clubs if not all of them. If a 16 year old player is part of the under 19s squad and is dropped or in need of more game time as plays in the under 17s I would classify it as 'cheating' as the player is infact under 17. This works the same way if an under 17 squad is depleted of players and calls on the under 19s for some of their younger players.

Re: Juniors cheating to win
I guess that city were desperate for a win (were sitting bottom of table before last night) and the coach felt that the players he had were not good enough to earn them 3 points against a decent side.
I'm with you, how do you tell the 4 boys who missed out last night that they were being replaced with better players who could get the coach the result he wanted?

Also, the coach in question could have been a 'fill-in' on the day from another age group (which is quite common in junior football).BocaChiefs wrote:He may not know their names because they could of been from a younger age group, so you shouldn't really jump to assume that the players had drop down. Pretty sure he is the regular coach for that team, this game was re-scheduled from a few weeks back and he was the coach then tooHellas13 wrote:Also, the coach in question could have been a 'fill-in' on the day from another age group (which is quite common in junior football).BocaChiefs wrote:He may not know their names because they could of been from a younger age group, so you shouldn't really jump to assume that the players had drop down. Some of the excises being thrown about by some forumites though are pretty lame, they cheated, end of story.

Unless they played unregistered or overage players, no cheating was involved. Whether their team selection was made in the overall spirit of the game is another matter, but you should choose your words more carefully.just for fun wrote:.....they cheated, end of story.

Agreed, they are within their rights to play players who are still eligible for that age group. I'm sure many teams have done this over the years. However, as you say it is not in the spirit of the game to take boys positions within their own side and replace them with players from other teams. Not fair to the boys who miss out, and not fair to the team that plays them.Green_Manalishi wrote:Unless they played unregistered or overage players, no cheating was involved. This also puts a question mark over the result, would this team have won if not for those players being brought down? Maybe, maybe not...

Well Adelaide City win the sheep station and Para Hills got something out of the game that helped with the developement of their players No big deal move on
Re: Juniors cheating to win
Good luck to Adelaide City for the rest of the season Very physical game as you'd expect on a Tuesday evening and we were certainly proud of our performance on the park and off the park as a Club.

It will be interesting to see when the AC U15B's will play the AC U15A's in the next cup round how good the A's are. Personally i am not involved with AC however to bring down players to win games to stop the loosing team to be relegated is not the answer. If this rule applies it should in my opinion be restricted to say two players up or down at any time. Otherwise the entire competition becomes a joke and any good team from the say B's won't have a chance to get into the A's due to the above players movement.

Last time I checked it's not an AUFC supporters only forum
So no need to tell them to 'F OFF'

But with the City U15As playing the U15Bs in the next round and with a bunch of 15s playing 16s who were knocked out of the Cup at the weekend, they'll need to take extra care filling out the team sheets. Especially as they'll be playing Para Hills or Birkalla in the semis
Who are you?
Re: Juniors cheating to win
I play for Adelaide city under 15s. When we played on the weekend two of our players told the coach they would be away and a further 2 were sick so he asked 2 players that he coached last year to play down with us. For the match we had 13 players, 3 braught down. That isnt cheating its called not being a retard and it was one red card btw. Get it right

Re: Juniors cheating to win
sorry my friend, no one is having a shot at you or your team mates but in a time when everyone is talking about junior development and the lack of depth for senior teams I would have thought bringing players up from a younger age group would have been the right thing to do.stuart23 wrote:I play for Adelaide city under 15s. as a player and if you ever get the chance to play up an age group or 2, how good does that make you feel? a faster, more physical game played at a faster pace and knowing your mixing it with older boys and doing well
i bet you feel great but the poor players dropped for older players coming down, how good do you think they feel?
Re: Juniors cheating to win
Para were also short of players in this game. We chose to promote from our 14's. Thankyou to Rabbit for giving the 14s an opportunity at the next level.stuart23 wrote:I play for Adelaide city under 15s. Out of Para's 19 man 1st team squad, 13 came from our juniors. I suppose the moral is look after your players in the juniors and they will reward you with loyalty.

Re: Juniors cheating to win
I am sorry to hear that you are appalled. Now, so am I. Before posting a topic one should think it a good idea to have the facts right. Let me help you and keep in mind I am only an informed and concerned parent.
1) The ACFC U15A squad consists of 14 players. 5 of these could still play U14.
2) Tuesday night 3 of these players were sick, another one was interstate. One of the sick players declared himself ready to play should the need arise (e.g. through injuries to more than 2 teammates) - so he was put on the teamsheet. To have a full squad 2 players from the U16 and one from the U15B (there would have been another 4 U16 players viable to play in the U15 age group). Let's do the maths: Squad-size 14 minus 4 not available = 10 + 1 sick player for emergencies = 11 + 3 fill ins = 14. My question: Why do you mention 5 players on the sideline? All the players present had fair game time and nobody was made to sit out and watch the game. The two players on the bench were at the end, the one who got injured on his ankle early in the match and the one "emergency sick player"
3) The coach appearently not knowing the name of the players is fairly slanderous comment. All the players are well known to the coach and addressed by their names.
4) Only 1 player was sent off and this in fairly dubious circumstances.
Now let me tell you what I am appalled about. The Para Hills Coaching staff employed tactics of provocation in tagging one of the AC players after he received a yellow card. This City player was constantly tripped, provoked verbally in the manner of the Materazzi/Zidane case solely to elicit a violent reaction so Para Hills can play the remainder of the match with a numerical advantage. Now this is what I would call appalling and since you seem so concerned about the ethics of the sport I propose you take this point up for discussion in your Club.
