Great idea - away teams bring mobile bars/eskies!!!!
Just want to put something out there I've seen happening at my ground and see what the general consensus is with most amateur soccer clubs.
Away teams that bring their own esky's with drinks rather than support the other teams bar.
In one way it helps the away team raise money for their club by getting their players to buy drinks from their esky rather than the home teams bar canteen.
If this is OK with most teams I can organise my teams to take away esky's and raise money at both home games and away.
What is everyones thoughts on this?

I've seen some teams bring their own drinks in recent times.
Doesn't bother me too much, as when we play at their ground I won't spend one cent.

yes unfortunately it is happening a lot lately, im seeing much more clubs do it...and i think it is a kick in the guts to the home club. No one is charging lots of $$$ for beer, its not like going to a pub, most clubs you can get a good beer for under $5.
IMO stop being so tight and support other clubs and in the end SA amateur soccer in general.

General consensus - poor form.
I wont lower myself NOT to buy drinks from the opposition clubs bars, because a select few want to bring their own bevvy's.crue head wrote:Doesn't bother me too much, as when we play at their ground I won't spend one cent.
Support your opposition clubs, it's not that hard FFS.
You may even gain some respect

i reckon this topic gets raised every year along with away teams not going into the club rooms after the game, i think it is piss poor on both, its that hard to spend some money when playing away and personally speaking i love trying the different foods at away grounds and a having a beer or 4 after a hit out
Re: Great idea - away teams bring mobile bars/eskies!!!!
I dont see it happen that often and generally I think most people we play against are pretty good with buying drinks at the club. Did play in one game this year where people from the opposition bought their own drinks to THEIR OWN HOME GAME!
Incredible....

For the FOB boys, does the proceeds from the bar at your ground go to you or ERU or 50-50?

It looks to me the general consensus is that its poor form to bring esky's to away clubs.
Personally I agree but if it is being done how do we stop it. Can we ban bringing of alcohol to away games?
If the home team is paying pitch hire and getting no support or appreciation from the away team for providing the venue then why should the home team reciprocate?
Once I had an away game, the team didn't have a pitch available at the time and asked if they can play the game at my home ground which in the spirit of the game and sportsmanship I agreed. We played our game, I opened our bar afterwards, asked the team to join us at the bar and they said no they have their own, they went into our away change rooms, drank for two hours and left. While we had to pay for pitch hire that they should have done. How fair is that? I wont mention the team as with most teams their are good people as well as not so good people.

If we see people from our club bringing their own drinks, we tell them not to, and support the club that we're at. So your argument about a select few doesn't fly with me. So if 'a select few' racially abuse someone is that ok too?Jean Claude wrote:I wont lower myself NOT to buy drinks from the opposition clubs bars, because a select few want to bring their own bevvy's.crue head wrote:Doesn't bother me too much, as when we play at their ground I won't spend one cent.

I'm not too sure why I or my club would need to gain respect, when we have been doing the right thing ever since our inception.
For example, we have a very healthy rivalry with Salisbury Villa, however whenever we play each other, we both support the bar and food. They are great when they come to our ground, and we stick around when we go to theirs.
Wherever we go, we support the clubs bar + canteen, however if i see clubs blatantly bringing their own drinks, and the head honchos turning the blind eye, like i said, I wont spend a cent.

'Select few' as in a few opposition clubs who do not support the home teams. Dont know where you are going with that one.crue head wrote: If we see people from our club bringing their own drinks, we tell them not to, and support the club that we're at. The 'respect' comment wasn't aimed at you or your club, rather the 'select few' I was talking about in previous postscrue head wrote: I'm not too sure why I or my club would need to gain respect, when we have been doing the right thing ever since our inception.

I think it's terrible form for people to do this. I always tell all of our boys to go & have a beer or a drink of some sort, as long as your spending something over the oppositions bar. We have always gone into the oppositions clubrooms too. This year at Para Hills East I have implemented presentations after the game for the away side 1st team best player where they get a 6 pack of beer to encourage opposition teams to stick around after the games & it's working well.
Re: Great idea - away teams bring mobile bars/eskies!!!!
If people want to bring their own drinks you cant stop them. Be they home or away supporters. Be that because they are a bit strapped for cash that week or the other spectrum, they are tight!! You cant stop it happening.
But an away team bringing their own esky to sell drinks to their own supporters and players is an outright dog act... Any team doing so should be ashamed of themselves. And like another formite posted above, i'm sure it would be against some type of of Liquor and Licencing Law

The very first senoir club I played for in this country did this (albiet it was a jug and not a sixpack) for every team who played on their grounds that weekend. Clubhouse was often full of players from about six different teams.strappineastie wrote:This year at Para Hills East I have implemented presentations after the game for the away side 1st team best player where they get a 6 pack of beer to encourage opposition teams to stick around after the games & it's working well.

As for the tight arses,, it's no more than $4 for a beer, $2 for a softie at most places.EASTIE#10 wrote:this year we have been told to always head into their clubrooms after its like an unwritten rule. and i think its just weak to bring your own or not hang round for at least 1 what is it like 5-10 minutes to neck a beer cmon guys............

If a club has a bar adhering by the Liquor Licencing Laws etc & people bringing in alcohol breaches this law, who cops the punishment?BANYA wrote:If people want to bring their own drinks you cant stop them. Any club that does it is shooting themselves in the feet anyhow, they're inviting the whole league to do it to them.

Everyone knows it happens, never be stopped. If someone wants to bring a six pack from his fridge so be it. 90% do the right thing which is all you can ask for.

I think this is a terrible and illegal idea!!!
Agreed - 100% wrong to bring and sell
Agreed - if there is a BYO with no on-sale its shit but you cant stop it.
At Beograd we provide away change rooms, a full size pitch and top quality facilities including full bar and BBQ on most sundays. Even if you wanted to socialise with your team mates after the game, pull up a table and some chairs (also provided) and go ahead... even if you didnt buy from the bar and just wanted to sit around.
To then have the audacity to try and make money out of away games at the expense of the club who puts on these facilities will set a horrible trend of selfishness for the league.

Is this the general consensus of behaviour at Vipers?crue head wrote:I've seen some teams bring their own drinks in recent times.

Interested to see if there are any other clubs who share the "Viper mantra" out there!
Would you then adopt that philosphy if an away club member wanted to purchase from your bar? would you say... no.... please BYO because we BYO at your club
Re: Great idea - away teams bring mobile bars/eskies!!!!
whats probably more annoying then away clubs bringing drinks is when they leave grounds with their crap still laying around...
walking 10 metres to a bin isnt that heard ...

Not oly do they onsell their own drinks but they leave the empties for the home club to collect. The idea is fraught with negativity and really against all spirit of amateur soccer here in SA.
Interestingly enough... would it then be wrong to charge adnmission to all away spectators because the away team is also attempting to raise revenue so why shoudlnt the home team also raise the revenue that they woudl miss out on because of the "Away Esky"?
