I think without an exemption from the Equal Opportunities the FFSA could find some questions being asked if someone cared to complain!
Not 100% sure but feel very confident that an exemption is required before any job can be advertised with a selected age, race, gender base qualification otherwise jobs should be open to all.

Re: Adelaide United W-League Assistant Coach and Scholarship Coa
I think what the FFSA/Adelaide United (who ever is in charge of the W-league team) are trying to do is create opportunities for females coaches to have experience coaching at high levels, under the guidance of qualified head coaches OR this is what they "say" they want to do......but whether they actually want this to occur is another story. It is all good in theory, but coming from experience, sometimes it feels like Football in SA is male dominated OR it is based on who you know and who is your friend, and not about experience and the people who are actually interested in coaching at a high level in the future. These female coaches who do want coaching jobs end up losing interest because they arent given enough opportunities in the lower ranks to help them get to positions such as these. Sometimes it is a fight for females to get coaching jobs with state teams etc, despite whether they are qualified.
The lack of female coaches coming through the ranks will only discourage any other potential female coaches to want to give it a go. It is sad....you never know, we may have our own future version of Pia Sundhage (USA Womens national coach) here in SA that no one will know about if they dont get the opportunity to show their talent.
However in saying the above, I dont think Adelaide United W-league are in a position that they can advertise only for a female assistant coach.....I think the team needs to get the best coaching staff available, male or female, put aside differences in associations/federations, institutes or clubs, past personal history etc. At the end of the day, the ultimate goal should be the same, which is to make the AU W-league team a competitive force in the league, not just participants. We need all the best coaches we can get. There are coaches out there who want the job, have the experience but are not given the chance due to the hurdles mentioned above.
As for Female Coaches for the advertised position....there are only a few (in my opinion) who would be up to scratch......Di Alagich (but lives in Sydney), Kristyn Swaffer, Tracey Jenkins and Sharon Black. The only problem is - do they have the time to do it?

Re: Adelaide United W-League Assistant Coach and Scholarship Coa
If the Lady Reds can get some more experience in their coaching staff..whether it be male or female they are capable of going along way. Got a good enough team to win the league in my opinion, although a senior matilda or foreign import would definitely help.
Re: Adelaide United W-League Assistant Coach and Scholarship Coa
In my opinion the head coach needs all the help he can get.
He is the man of the FFSA and he could deliver a few points in two seasons.
Women's football people should lead women's football. Female coaches...what kind of response is that? I never thought it was about sexes.

neits/burgo/shadow, I agree with what you say however the part which is worrying is why is there no forward thinking by the FFSA to ensure good female coaches who will win this position coming through?
We need a good blend of male / female coaches who will take the sport forward and complement each other this means encouraging ex players to coach and ref this then ensuring the talent stays in the sport.
As I think most would want the best person for the position should get the job for now and start a 1, 5 and 10 year plan.

Re: Adelaide United W-League Assistant Coach and Scholarship Coa
Don't worry Julian, I totally agree with you. The FFSA should have a 5 (or 2 year, whatever really) year plan for female coaches. A few years back they sounded like they wanted to have a plan to develop female coaches but it always went back to the men. Not enough opportunities for females.....They should take a look at coaching and development in other states, and even womens league structure! We do it all wrong here in SA.....the are more focused on the money, not development....and slightly favoured with the male side of the sport... its a lose/lose situation.adelaidepie wrote:neits/burgo/shadow, I agree with what you say however the part which is worrying is why is there no forward thinking by the FFSA to ensure good female coaches who will win this position coming through?

Re: Adelaide United W-League Assistant Coach and Scholarship Coa
good debate.
The sport had attarcted many good (and not so good) people to its coaching ranks. Sad thing is that they have all run away. Was it because of the system. The club structure. The lack of commitment by more than 50% of the palying group. The lack of funding.??
I thinks its a bit of everything. Julian you are corerct about a long term plan. Too many decisions have/are based on short term gains which have been ordinary. Hence the shape of the game here in SA.
This situation will take many years to rectify.
As far as attracting women coaches to the ranks? Thso good coaches who have come by in the last decade are long gone and will not come back. Lost energy, Motivation, support and desire.
The game has alienated some brilliant players who should have been given a role (or at least supported so that tdhey remain in the game for a future coaching role). Its that enthusiasm and support for their game that will get results. They ahve gone and so is the opportunity.
many times coaches are dads (or frinds) who make the transition to womens' soccer. Once their "reason for participation" goes...so do they.
as far as male vs female coach for the role? The best person for the job.

Some comments regarding the state of soccer and women soccer in particular:
-The fish rots from the head.
- FFSA should provide minimum guidelines for all clubs to set out development strategies and skill levels for each age group from juniors through to senior levels ( in accordance with FFa latest development procedures for junior soccer )
- FFSA should ensure clubs follow the above basic standards and dvelopment strategies to achieve outcome.
- Coaches have to be supervised by a person in each club to ensure their qualification and skill level is falling in place with the above requirements.
- The above will ensure that all clubs will provide similar level of skills development and hence outcome should be more consistend.
- System shall be flexible and be changed and altered if new development strategies are available on international standards and dvelopment of skills.
- If above is followed we should have more consistend skilled players coming through the ranks and hence the competition will be much more even.
Generally my believe is that to develop players the most experienced coaches should be part of the early skills development. We see it every time that not many skilled coaches staying in the system to give consistency in players development due to various reason. Committee members have to much influence, players attitude, parents involvement and interference, coaches egos just to bring up a few issues.
Not many coaches have anymore the desire to coach due the above issues and also the demand these days of the time you have to spend to prepare your practice nights, analyse after game and set up new pracice nights.
Also a lot of younger coaches in my opnion are lacking communication skills and have no people management skills in particular womens soccer.
Players are gettting fed up with disorganised clubs and coaches and also not having seen any development strategies or succession plans to encourage them to progress and proceed with soccer and therfor leaving th sport to join cricket, netball and basketball which seems to be better organised from their appropriate association and clubs.

They are going to start training soon but I heard only the players that were signed last year are invited out? Is this true? Maybe it's only for the first training, I don't really know. They are starting earlier though if I remember correctly from last season.
Are trainings still at Fulham?

Re: Adelaide United W-League Assistant Coach and Scholarship Coa
as i said last few seasons the best coach should be picked from a current womans premier league team who knows who the best players are and who have the ability to play at the highest level...well thats my opinion anyway

JC, by talking to other ppl I think that most players that actually played in the last two years would agree with you 100%. And honestly who would have done worse than the current coach?
