Volcanoes affect on football

Post by Hawkesy »

Steve Bennett (referee) is stuck in romania after a FIFA ref's meeting. That was why the man c v man u derby match had a late change of ref.

fulham and liverpool's uefa matches might be postponed this week as well because they can't get there. Real problem for fulham if it happens because they don't have a spare midweek until the end of the season. Would mean some major rescheduling.
Things I am owed because they're too tight to pay up:

Oh and add in

Not heard of trains? Slower perhaps, but he's not stuck.

there's a big bit of water in the way. Ferries and eurostar is fully booked as well. Some people are running rescue missions on speedboats to get people back.

Clubs need to harden the fk up; its Western Europe Europe not North America.
ie Barca are taking a coach to Milan.

Isnt there a bullet train (or of near speed) Paris to Madrid?
Liverpool>London>Paris>Madrid.
9hr trip. Train there, fly back once the ash clears.
Im sure the squad togetherness will probably do the team well!!

just read they're almost booked (eurorail). im sure these clubs will have the money to pay a premium to snap up whats left.

train only goes to paris from london. To do it by rail would require. Liverpool - Euston - St Pancras - Paris - Madrid. The issue for liverpool is eurostar/ferries are fully booked plus they play tonight and again at the weekend. Fulham were better prepared and have tickets for Le Shuttle already booked.

technically can be done, as helicopters are not affected by the ban as they can confortably fly under 3,000ft.

The RN are now sending 3 battleships over to france to bring English people home who are stranded over there. Liverpool and fulham could just hitch a lift with them.

Hawksey...whats the rail situation like in Europe. Can you get basically all around Europe by rail?
I understand its probabaly fully booked, but im just asking the question out of interest.

never got a train on the continent but from what I understand the infrastructure is pretty good and pretty fast. Most major cities link up eg. in liverpools case, there would probably be a direct train from paris to madrid on the TGV but as you said, it's probably fully booked. The issue is more getting on/off the continent than the getting around once they are there.

Ahh ok, I'm guessing the Eurostar is the ferry?

I may or may not have smoked soooooo much crack, but i swear they were making a tunnel under the channel to drive under?

there are 3 tunnels under the channel, all used by trains only (you can't drive through). The Eurostar runs from London - paris/brussels and Le Shuttle goes from Folkestone - calais. The Eurostar is for foot passengers only while Le Shuttle is for people with transport only (cars, lorries coaches etc..).. 3.5 hours London - Paris, 40 minutes Folkestone - calais. Times are from memory.

Then you have the ferries, Sealink, P&O and Sea France that go mainly from dover - calais and take 90 minutes.

From The Guardian's Fiver.....
The news that Liverpool's Big Vase semi-final defeat against Atletico Madrid will also go ahead has proved a fillip to burglars in the Merseyside area. Or Merseysiders, as they are more commonly known.
