I am not sure if part of the problem is caused by the Reserve League being stronger then division 1.
I dont know any other competition or sport where this happens, maybe someone can enlighten me ?
You could probably make up another 3 competitive Premier league sides out of the best players from the Reserve league, and those 3 would be slightly stronger then any of the divison 1 teams.
Then the Reserve league would come in somewhere after div 1,in my opinion, from what I have seen in past couple of years.

If D1 clubs are to play in the Prems cup, then they should have their preliminary round NOT being 'helped' by a draw where two out of the 4 top teams leave the comp on day 1.
because they might be competitive in a one off cup game, but don't have the depth to field a competitive reserve team that is required to be in the Prems league
beaches wrote:The seven winners from round 1 plus 9 with byes make the round of 16, then down to 8 winners, round 3 (quarter finals) then 4 (semifinals) then 2 (final). My guess is 1 possibly the 2 finalists will be known after round 1. How exciting is that.
thanks for explaining that.

Agreeing with Neits it would be like chalk and cheese, brad Pitt rocking up to summer bay, Calvin kline on the front of a cheap as chips catalogue, Manchester united playin Adelaide united, Ellen marrying a man or Kylie minogue doing a duet with chris brown - this shit just shouldn't happen...... Stupiiiiiiiiid..

I thought metro vs city last ur was a very gd game regardless of te result. Also the mor prems teams means the more w league players - the more Adelaide united players
playing in the cup final = a profile...

Come on Ffsa - get it right!!!

Nenita, Round 1 of the mens cup will see some of the title chance teams facing each other from the Super League.

Western Strikers v Para Hills
MetroStars vs Cobras

big deal, its the luck of the lottery, what do you want a rigged competition!

Portsmouth had a lucky and easy draw when they made the FA Cup final last time.

Thanks for being very formal by using my christian name lol.

But, the men had a Preliminary round.....to ween out all the "lower" league sides that werent up to scratch....a similar thing should have been done with the women.

I dont know a whole lot about the way the mens cup works, but is it similar to the tennis where the draw for the whole comp is already planned? With the 2 finalists from the previous year on separate sides of the draw?

You cant say it is right for the 2 finalists of last years womens cup (Metro and City) to play each other in the first round.......ridiculous.

No. Drawn randomly after each round.

Drawn after each round is wrong anyway. The draw should be done for round 2 at the beginning also. Oh hold on when round 1 is drawn in the tennis, they dont draw all the winners out of a hat in round 2 to play each other.

A complete shammozle, playing the semis before round 1. I reckon the Fulham/Olympic and Metro/City games will be full on, because the winners will have a walk up start for the final. Then again these 2 may get to play each other in round 2 if it is drawn after each round. What a farce.

The difference with tennis is that the tournament is played without a break in the space of two weeks. In football the next round is several weeks away. The F.A. Cup draws each round after the previous round has taken place.

To me look at the FA Cup in England. Preliminary rounds for teams outside of the league and then gradually bring in higher ranked teams up to the third round when all teams are involved and can be drawn against each other.

Now due to the limited number of teams in the prems league maybe the two finalists should have been given a bye, but other than that how can the comp be fair by giving the prems teams a bye? No disrespect but the comp doesn't have the numbers to give this luxury to the top teams and although I feel sorry for Fulham, Olympic, City and Metro this will now make the cup a very interesting competition. Just like the FA cup can be by 'bigger' teams being knocked out.

I'm not saying that this is the best way and again restated that maybe te finalist should have been given the bye however with all things considered to be equal to all clubs this is the best way to deal with the draw by putting all teams into the barrel and seeing what comes out.

Otherwise how can the competition be fair to all and not show any favours to the prems clubs?

Just an opinion.

thats ok - we spoke at training last night and thought we would introduce the "consolation cup"
i think more people would rock up to that than what they would to the cup final!!!!!
we should charge at tthe fulham/olympic & city/metro games - they would make heeeeaps of money outr of those games!!!

The way things are going in many ways as to Womens Football, it may be better to let it break completely. Not put bandaids on it. Then support the passionate people who put up their hands to rebuild it. :o

There shouldn't be different cups for different divisions. They should all play in the one cup tournament.

Yes, and if that were the case, have a premliminary round where the prems and Div 1 teams all have a bye.

You need to whittle the competition down to a power of two (2, 4, 8, 16, 32 etc).

There's nineteen teams in div 4 & 5. If one has a bye and the others all play next round you have nine teams... then what? four games and a bye? ... etc.

Apart from the 2 games with the top 4 Prem teams, there's another issue here IMO:
Not saying that they will, but the Cumby-Sturt and the PH-C'town games are at high risk of 'stacking'...Who can ensure that the 'reserve' teams will actually be made up by reserves and not half filled with Prem players?

After all this talk and disappointment with the draw, hope the games are going to be good games and that the next rounds are more fair. It will be a joke if "certain teams" get to reach the final without ever facing any strong opponent and the two top Prem teams that remain after this round face each other before the final. Let's hope that the players actually do better than the FFSA! Sure some games will be very exciting! I wish I could go and watch three different ones at once!

The reserves teams could be stacked with all Premier league Players, or Prems team could be all reserves players. The Prems team could lose in this case and the reserves go on and win the cup.

Because depends how clubs go about things. What rules are in place to say who can play in which team. Play in whatever team and then a player becomes cup tied to that team, Prems and Reserves in the same Cup leaves it open to abuse.

Could be Metro Reserves v Adelaide City reserves in place of the Prems teams and same for Olympic and Fulham. No that could'nt happen, could it?

i agree with the point of view that the higher divsion sides should receive a bye in the early rounds. happens in the amateur league and more importantly all the big leagues across europe. was a big talking point at the delegates meeting and i think the clubs have a right to be annoyed. i coach a div 4 team which are playing in round one. 4 of the 6 teams in the div 4/5 cup are in div 4. so 8 out of 10 div 5 sides get a free ride into the next round of the cup. so which of the prem sides will 'rest' their first team players and play them in the ressies?

With a lucky draw, couldn't a Prem 1st Team and Prem Res Team from the same "club" be playing in the finals ?
