politics is at every club ;)
Some Clubs enter the Competition for a good pre-season hitout with their regular squad. Some Clubs pick teams to try and win at all costs and some Clubs pick their best available team and don't worry about the end result.
Each to their own really. Good tournament either way you approach it

Can't argue with that, but I would be interested to find out how the other states approach the competition. When the Pacific winner goes over to Manchester, I think they end up facing academy teams from some of the best clubs in the world.

If you were dead set serious about the bigger picture of the competition you would certainly bring players down that play above their age group ( as teams did ) and cut kids that would normally be part of that 15's squad. That is ok but can you imagine how the poor kids feel that missed out. Poor show really.

yep! I can imagine as I know of one such lad in the winning team that is bitterly disappointed, doubly so because he knows he won't be going to Melbourne.

They're leaving Friday, then 2 games Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Top 2 teams play off in the final on Sunday afternoon, hopefully one of them is Campbelltown :D

So it would be a good time for our U15s to play Campbelltown then?

The lads played 3 games today.

Lost 2-0 Sutherland Sharks (NSW)
Draw 0-0 ?? (we got lots of injuries in this game)
Win 4-1 North Coast Fury (NSW)

We now are pretty much dependant on other scores/games.

But we finished the day with a win and moral is high.

They play one more tomorrow morning and, if they do win, plus other games go their way; they will be through to the final which is played later in the day.

boys did very well, unlucky not to make the finals. Drew against the other NSW side after dominating all game and another draw against Bulleen 1-1 after dominating most of that game aswell!
Sutherland Sharks were a cut above though, beat us 2-0 and won the tournement 3-0!
John Ruggerio from Campbelltown picking up most valuable player of the tournement and got a nice gift from Nike :D
Great great event for the boys or anyone who has a chance to compete in it :!:

Man Utd Premier Cup National Playoffs

The National Playoffs for the 2010 Manchester United Premier Cup (Under 15) were held in Melbourne, Victoria over the past weekend.

The competition featured Bulleen Lions (Victoria), Sutherland Sharks (NSW), Loganholme (Qld) and North Coast (NNSW) as well as the South Australian playoff winner in Campbelltown City Red Devils.

Campbelltown City put in an impressive effort over the two day event, but came just short of a Finals spot, with Sutherland beating Bulleen 3-0 in the Final.

The teams arrived on Friday and were taken to the Nike Offices in Abbotsford, where each player was presented with their own Nike strip to be worn during the event. The teams were treated to an opening ceremony dinner where a live draw was conducted for the fixtures.

“On behalf of Campbelltown City Soccer Club we would like to express our gratitude and sincere thanks to Nike and all their staff involved for organising such a wonderful tournament. The hospitality and friendship and facilities we as South Australians experienced was fantastic,” said Campbelltown City Coaching Director Roger Gentile.

“The mate ship between some of the players and officials amongst the teams really showed that this game can really change lives. It was great to see players from all states sharing their experiences.
The players learnt from their experience, how it should be and how it needs to be to compete at top level. They all grew as individuals,” mentioned Gentile.

Sutherland now take on East Coast Bays from New Zealand to determine the Pacific winner, with the winner to travel to Manchester to take on some of the 20 best teams in the World playoffs.

No teams from WA, Tasmania, NT or ACT.

The Qld state comp was only held two weeks before the Melbourne finals

Some Mums and Dads would have had to make some hasty travel arrangements.

Thats true but surely the consequences would have spelt out before they entered the tournament here in Adelaide.

Yeah, I was wondering why the other states weren't represented aswell, would have made it far more competitive!
Also heard that Bulleen trialed 150 kids specifically for this tournement, didn't really care so much about that but I wondered if Victoria had to meet the same criteria as the other states
None the less, great tournement :D
