U17As Cumberland 4 Salisbury 3.
Cumby had to play the second half with 10 men due to no subs and a player breaking his arm. Tough luck for Dimi and hope he's back soon.

Olympic 17's 4-2 Croydon 17C's in Pre-Cup after Olympic stacked their team with under 19's, something needs to be done about this

If their 19's are of age whats the issue? You think the teams that competed in the Manchester cup were the actual 15's of those clubs? I think not, but they were of age and I bet your house and car many of them play 16's/17's/19's so I don't see what can be done or why.

Some heavy losses in round 19. Not a good way to begin the season.

Can't be good for the kids getting belted like this. 20:0 is a ridiculous score. Bring in the mercy rule.

Doesn't actually solve anything though............just saves a bit of pride and breeds mediocrity.Jock wrote:Some heavy losses in round 19......Bring in the mercy rule.

Re: Junior Results - 21/03/10
so are we going to resurect the same topic that comes up EVERY season.
In the league you don't know if the team that gets thumped will stay there or drop down so you need to put the goals away just in case
Have seen leagues won/lost on goal difference.
In the cup i defy any coach to openly admit they are not able to realise the game is over once he (or she) sees how their team is playing compared to the opposition.
You cannot tell me that if you are 4-0 up in 10 - 15 minutes you are worried about losing

Smashed a team once 24-0 in the Cup. We were 9-0 up at half time and their Coach told us to take it easy I told him we were taking it easy so he called me a tosser Stepped it up in the second half and scored another lazy 15
He then told half his team they would never play for the Club again. Saw that team again but never saw him

Re: Junior Results - 21/03/10
At the moment there is not much that can be done assuming that the boys were of the correct age. What could be done in the future though, is a possible change in the ruling re playing "up" and " down" in cup games. I believe that at the moment, once you have played a cup game in your correct age group you can still play in a higher age group the following rounds but not visa versa. Why not abolish the rule altogether and make the ruling for cup games that you can only play in one age group per year, no moving up or down. The age group that you play your first game for , is the age group that you are cup tied to for the year. It would certainly make clubs think a bit harder as to where they want their better players playing and eliminate "double dipping".Romanista wrote:Olympic 17's 4-2 Croydon 17C's in Pre-Cup after Olympic stacked their team with under 19's, something needs to be done about this
Some one no doubt will sight injuries as the reason for moving of players between age groups. surely with 15 / 16 player squads these days you should be able to manage to field a team. I guess if you have 5 /6 injuries at once that coincide with a cup round, maybe you are just not destined to win the cup that year .
Just as an extension to the original post, I believe that for what ever reason, Croydon were only able to start 10 players on Sunday and because of injury ended the game with 9 players on the field. If they had played the two fourteen olds, who appeared to more than hold their own, in their correct age group, maybe the flow on effect would have been one less blowout in the 15B's.(Excessively sad to see in any age group regardless of who you support) Individual player development, pros and cons. A discussion for another time - already drifted way off original subject . My apologies.
