Post by marooned »

Calling all Downs supporters and the rest of yous. Big game this week should be a test for both clubs. Downs just starting to get warmed up and im sure Villa will be the same, always a good game and good to see the green and gold boys back, its been a few years. Three games starting at 11.30 then 1.15 and 3pm. Argana Park.

Ouch, if C's are playing then I might be up for 2 games in a row again. At least it'll mean I might have my touch in for the B's game.

The Downs bounce is a myth that has been created as an excuse by Downs forwards over the years to explain why they miss so many opportunities in front of goal :)

Either way I'm happy it'll be Galey in goals for the A's. I want to have some confidence left going into the season.

i believe first team was 5 or 6 zip to the downs and reserves was 5-0 to downs. villa had c teamers fill in for ressies and still held up until the last 20. galey was injured before the first team game maybe driver?

Good decision to bring a 48 year old, although champion goalkeeper, to the club who is already injured for the second time before the season has even started...

1st team Downs 5 Villa 0
Ressies Downs 5 Villa 0

Downs lads although not at full stength outplayed Villa today. Would like to personally thank Villa for the game and for playing on a sunday which would no doubt left them short of a full squad. Game played in good spirits and good to see Villa lads sharing a few beers after the game. Good luck and best wishes for season 2010.

Saturday v Sunday mmmm not that old chestnut again...
Some good signs today with adam malia coming on after half time and showing why he will be a great asset for us this year..goober scored another hat trick for the ressies.
The most important question of the day was why was marty junior not cooking his famous burgers. Come on marooned whats the go there.. :D :D :D :D
There is no I in team, but there is a u in suck...

ressies did not go down that way at all. Gooba had his hat trick for Downs to go 3-0 on 50 minutes with the first 2 goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. A well worked corner for the first, and a merry dance around villa defenders for the second.
Last 2 goals scored after he was dragged - who knows how many he would have ended up with!

No disrespect to downs, they played well and deserved the win.

AV B team consisted of 5-6 C team players, yes they were over 35. And no subs for 2nd half. NO EXCUSE. DOWNS outplayed villa!

A team consisted of 5 B team players, and was missing keeper, 6 1st team starters. once again, NO EXCUSE. Downs attacked very well and defended very well. Red looks like a great sweeper, but in all fairness, the Downs keeper didnt have to do much. Villas keeper, all but 5foot4, had alot to do.

ps, our over 35's team won!
:D

Great day out, a good hit-out for AV, and thankyou for the hospitality Downs. It was a pleasurable day. Good luck in the season, who knows, we may meet in the cup round!

ps, AV will b much stronger in this weekends Cichanowski Shield!

Congratulations on a fantastic performance from the Downs yesterday....looked hungry and eager to impress...will be a force again this year on that display. Thanks to everyone at the Downs for there hospitality in providing us food and drinks after the game :D and good luck for the year ahead.

On our performance, no more than a friendly full stop. Gave us an opportunity to see how we respond against quality opposition when we are undermanned which may occur through out the season.

Fingers crossed we may get back the majority of the 12 plus players that were unavailable due to injury or availability for this weeks cup game.

One thing for sure..........our minds are firmly set on Round 1 in 3 weeks time. :!:

r the Downs the team most likely to challenge Florina this year?

Much to improve on last years yo yo performances - finished 2nd but to be honest had there chances to push Florina but every time Florina gave them a sniff the Downs stuffed it up - if they had won the games they should have in the 2nd half of the year should have come down to the last game of the season.

Consistency is needed and Reeves is there to get that but I will reserve my judgements until I see them play when the real games start.

That's what happens when you try too hard when your body can't take it any more. Wanted to make a good impression by getting semi-fit (well, for me anyway!) before the pre-season started but has backfired on me big time. Should have done nothing through the off season like normal. I feel sorry for Rick & everyone else at Villa for letting them down so far, it's been very frustrating. Oh well. one good thing is I have yet to concede a goal so far
