Assaulting Match Official's
Unfortunately this weekend after our match one of the match officials was assaulted, it was the linesman and as far and I know it was not put on to the match card as the referee didn't witness it.
Does anyone know what the leagues stand point on such incidents are?
If the official referee was assaulted the player in question could get anywhere from a year to a life ban but as the linesman was a club appointed official does the league hold assualt against these officials in the same light as league appointed officials?
As everyone is aware the league is struggling to keep up with the match official per game demands and incidents such as this on an official EDJSA junior referee and club linesman is only turning people away from amatuer league match officiating.
I would be interest to know what peoples thoughts are.

Physical assualt.
The linesman was fly kicked in the head afte the game when he wasn't looking then the assaulting player immediately fleed the scene.
Rather gutless act.

Re: Assaulting Match Official's
Logic would say that there would surely be a harsh penalty given for an assault on any linesman/referee. That said I wouldn't be sure what exactly the league's standpoint would be. As the referee hasn't reported it, I guess maybe it would be possibly hard to prove?? IMO any player that physically assaults any linesman/referee should receive a life ban. It is actually pretty hard to comprehend that someone would take it that far after the team has been beaten 5-1 in a TRIAL GAME! Having played at Maco's I would be very suprised if whoever he was would be asked to play for them again anyway.

Surely it constitutes criminal assault - were the police informed?
Time for some righteous indignation
Re: Assaulting Match Official's
The players club (Macedonia) should ban him indefinately and they should report him to the SAASL. If the linesman reports an assault to police then Macedonia would be seen to be doing the right thing and not condoning violent behaviour.

Re: Assaulting Match Official's
As far as I'm aware a police report has been completed and there are witnesses to the incident.
Surely the league would have to take action!
In my opinion it should be a life ban.

should of been at least 2 police there

Can't see the league doing anything and unfortunately the police will probably do similar.

Nobody was fly kicked mate. The assaulting player pushed the linesman, linesman thought he would be a smartass and say a few more words and he copped it!King Kenny wrote:Physical assualt.

Not many people witnessed the event besides me! Not a police matter that's for sure!
Leave it to the club to take action!
Re: Assaulting Match Official's
If the ref does not report the incident, then as far as the league is concerned, it never occurred. The club should formally report the incident to the league. Gutless acts like that should not be tolerated by any club. This is how some people say thank you for someone putting there hand up to help out so you can play, now wonder people refuse to run lines and ref B/C/D games. Verbal abuse is bad enough, to take it too the next level is unacceptable.

What did he cop? If the guy struck the person in anyway, it can be classified as a police incident. So explain why the guy ran off to his car if he did nothing wrong.bergul wrote:Nobody was fly kicked mate. Regardless, the lineman should have never been approached, end of story.

Don't get me wrong mate, 100% agree with you! Just explaining the incident. First got pushed then struck on his head. More of a slap than a punch.Yammy Boy wrote:What did he cop? Re: Assaulting Match Official's
the bottom line as far as i am concerned is that there is no reason for any player to phsyically assault any linesman / referee under any circumstances no matter what, and i think the league should act on this quickly and ban the player for life to attempt to stop this from happening again.

Re: Assaulting Match Official's
It happened just outside the visitor changerooms. All the players were in the changerooms and most supporters in the clubrooms. Macedonia Supporters saw what happened. All the explanations they could give was "he has a short temper".
The linesman is only about 17 or 18 so why would he be back chatting to a guy who is obviously hostile.
I cant believe Bergul your backing up his actions.

Oh - we saw an all-in brawl (at least 30 involved) at Parks Community centre yesterday between two Collegiate teams we think (Asians and Africans). Some of these blokes had a good fly kick and would hold up in a UFC title fight... We were a bit more disciplined, no fights....Kirk Hammett wrote:just next to the basketball courts at para hills westFresh Football wrote:Where did this happen?King Kenny wrote:Unfortunately this weekend after our match one of the match officials was assaulted, it was the linesman and as far and I know it was not put on to the match card as the referee didn't witness it.

That is a disgrace, how weak is attacking a lines man for any reason, and at a friendly match, this is amature football, what is wrong with people!

Club should report it then the League can take action. Either way someone needs to report it.
Police matter should also be pursued as this is clearly a felony and the uh-em "gentleman" involved will need to appear before a magistrate and explain his actions!!
Ofcourse, if the kid gets a proper lawyer there could be a civil lawsuit on too!!! Duncan Basheer Hannon!!!
