You won't get any argument from me there. But people coming on here and shouting about how Kyrgiakos is crap really are braindead. He's a bloody good signing for fourth choice.Litmanen wrote:You still should have kept Hyypia instead though.Dan Agger wrote:This post really should have ended all discussion. He's right, with the possible exception of Bruma being 4th choice CB for Chelsea. Whilst Ivanovic is normally a fullback, hes capable of playing CB and would surely be picked there ahead of Bruma or any other unknowns. The Kop wrote:for fucks sake i cant believe the level of debate on this over and over and over and over again, the concept is not hard to undertand at all.
HE WAS BOUGHT AS A F-O-U-R-T-H CHOICE CENTRE BACK!!
he plays now and then, why?
Glen Johnson is injured, Cags moves to RB.
Skrtl is having a barry of a year.
Aggar is doing his best impression of Darren Anderton this year.
1.5m
over 50 intl caps for his country
wears heart on his sleeve
bargain in anyones language for 4th choice.
He is not to be compared with Vidic, Terry & Gallas but more like Johnny Evans or De Laet, Silvestre or Sol Campbell (yes he is about 4th choice eh!) and Chelsea's 4th choice centre back Bruma who ive never heard of.
This should finalise all debates on worthyness...........

Hyypia's only problem was that he was too slow. He was never lightning quick in the first place, but anyway...The Kop wrote:^
Probably. Dissapointed such a loyal servent didnt get the additional year he wanted.
However, that is beside the point.

how, hyypia is playing better, his partnership with friedrich is one of the reason leverkusen are doing so wellThe Kop wrote:^

But when an experienced defender who's 4th choice leaves, expectedly he will be replaced like for like.
And as above:
1.5m
over 50 caps for greece
plenty of european experience
lower wage than hyypia and 4 years younger.
good move.

Re: Everton's Fellaini out for season
I don't think anyone is saying that selling Hyypia was a good idea right?

Re: Everton's Fellaini out for season
It is completely impossible to say player x in this league is playing better that player y in another.
Its like saying Pique is playing better than say Cheillini. How could you make that assesment with any accuracy?
Look at it this way, the amount of times Kyrgiakos was called up (when the other options ahead of him were unavailable) has he made a positive or negative contribution to the team? The overwhelming consensus is he has made a positive one.
Case closed.
Still cant see why we're going round in circles.
- Hyypia left because he wasnt offered a long term deal at age 34;
- Liverpool need to replace him, and only realised this in the last week of the transfer window;
- Liverpool bought Kyrgiakos for a friggin bargain, after the decision was made to let Hyypia go. Its not like they bought Soti and then have Sami the flick.
A bit of common sense please......

Re: Everton's Fellaini out for season
Hyypia wasnt sold. He was offered 1 year contract but wanted 2. And left on a bosman.Litmanen wrote:I don't think anyone is saying that selling Hyypia was a good idea right?
Liverpool werent willing to commit to have Sami on their books till age 36.
As a reaction they went and signed someone who is 4 years younger and has done the same job (4th choice) and at the same level of performance.
Some common sense x 2 please....

Hyypia has won the CL, FA cup, played EPL for ten years, and you're telling me that Kyrgiakos can do the same job? I don't think Kyrgiakos is good enough to do what Hyypia has been doing in the Bundesliga this season.
Now all that is my opinion, so i'm not saying i'm right, all i'm saying is the way i see it,
You've let a guy go for free who's been part of the club for so long, then spent money on someone to do the same job who has less pedigree, and isn't really an investment for the future.
This is why Man U have such good depth too, Giggs, scholes, neville etc are still there and are great bench players and when in form slide into the first XI. With all the injuries Hyypia being an old head could have been invaluable this season.
That's why i don't think it was a good idea anyway..

Re: Everton's Fellaini out for season
I dont disagree.
All along I've said Hyppia should have been treated with more respect.
However, he leaves. What do you expect to be done?
Whether the 4th choice defender is 10%-20%-50% worse than the previous 4th choice probably isnt going to make a difference the scheme of things.
Hyppia is doing well in Leverkusen, but say next year at this age could compete in the EPL? Liverpool thought no.
Its worth noting that Kyrgiakos is an accomplished player in the Bundesliga also. Big fan favourite at Frankfurt.

Re: Everton's Fellaini out for season
I noticed Ivanovic played Centre back this week, and Bruma came on for Zhirkov late due to injury.
So officially Ivanovic is the 4th choice CB.

Evans is the biggest KREAS at Manchester United, id rather pluck one of your spectators out of the front row and wouldnt be surprised if that spectator gave you more than Evans
