Thank shiraz you aren't a manager, one of the best players in the world and you would only have him on your bench.
Errrm because we have Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Lass occupying those central midfield positions, he would definately be an extra midfield option but its like if he moved to Barcelona...there is absolutely no space for him in the starting line up, unless he proves himself.

Sell Gerrard and get Fabregas. Now that would be a good piece of business. This will never happen. 40 mil for Gerrard I would definately sell.

Mate if your gonna spend $40mil on a player resale value has to be a factor.

If he was 20-27 you could justify spending $40mil... But $40mil on a 30yr old? Your having a laugh

You think if C. Ronaldo was 30yrs old Real would offer $80mil for him? :clown:

He hasn't proved anything with Real Madrid or in the spanish league, and considering you have genuine world class players like Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Lass and Van der Vaart who has also been playing well, there's just not a whole lot of room for him other than on the bench.

It's always interesting to read these denials. I'm sure he's telling the truth but there's not much else he could say whatever his feelings are.

I know Pool fans think it's unthinkable that he could leave but, at his age, if Pool are not performing, who could blame him for at least considering it.

The above statement is very true. Of course teams think about resale value (they are a business). Ronaldo for example, sold for £75 mill if they sell him in a couple of years time for whatever reason, Real know they are going to still probably get maybe £75+mill for him (hes one of the best players in the world). May not make a huge profit, may only break even but he would still only be only 27 and at his peak! Gerrard on the other hand, 30 years old in may, if a team pays around £40 mill for him and in a years time he decides he wants to leave when he turns 31, he will be worth £15mill at best. The only mugs that would pay £40 mill for him would be the teams that spend money for fun and couldnt give a shit if they made a loss or not. Eg. Man City!

Poor widdle Capitano can't fight his own battles?

It's pretty simple; You don't go buy ready made World Class players with the intention of selling them one day. Clubs that are buying ready made World Class players are doing so because they want to win trophies with them, not to turn a profit on them x years down the track.

I bet when Rafa signed Torres, he was licking his lips thinking how much he could sell him for in 4 years time  (funnily enough, we might have to  )

As with Ronaldo, I'm sure Madrid wouldn't contemplate selling him, he's theirs for life now because you don't let quality players go if your club has any aspiration of winning trophies.

Gerrard's resale value   Good one guys

Tell Fergie ferg that you don't let quality players go - beckham, ronaldo, RVN. Unfortunately, the departure of all 3 hasn't stopped them winning trophies (thus far).

well often it is either the player or the manager eventually moves on.. in this case Ferguson has obviously been there long enough to dictate who stays and who goes.

but there is no denying quality players move around all the time, other clubs come in with cash/a change of scene and all of a sudden it is 'against the players will' to hang around...
