Real Madrid Enter The Fray As Steven Gerrard Considers Quitting Liverpool - Report
Liverpool's talismanic skipper Steven Gerrard is allegedly on the verge of quitting the club in search of glory elsewhere, with The Daily Mail claiming that Real Madrid are now interested in the England star.
The Reds have had a dreary season, having been flushed from the Champions League into the Europa League and eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.
To add the their woes, there is a real danger of finishing outside the top four in the Premier League and thereby missing out on brushing shoulders with Europe's elite next term.
And with all this pointing toward another season of being competitors instead of winners, Anfield's biggest star is said to be entertaining the possibility of a move.
After watching the 1-1 draw with Stoke City, Gerrard - currently injured - is said to be having second thoughts about whether to stick around in the hope of winning some silverware, or whether to cash in and make a £40 million move in the summer.
It is believed that Real, Inter and Manchester City are closely monitoring the situation with a view to exercising their financial muscle and thrashing out a deal with the midfielder if he should become available.
The skipper's thoughts are alleged to be almost identical to those he entertained six years ago, when he came close to signing for Chelsea during Gerard Houllier's tenure at Anfield.
However, the Frenchman's successor, Rafael Benitez, took over the reins and justified the captain's decision to continue with the club, securing a Champions League trophy in his first season in charge.
To add to the situation, there have been reports claiming that Gerrard had an altercation with Benitez's assistant, Mauricio Pellegrino, over the hamstring injury that saw him substituted during the FA Cup loss to Reading, but those claims have been denied.

Is that the goal.com article?
Hopefully Chelsea make a bid, I know we have a strong midfield, but every team has a place for Steven Gerrard.

Re: Steven Gerrard hands in transfer request?
In all seriousness, if he wasn't happy at the club he wouldn't have been anywhere near the Stoke game.

Re: Steven Gerrard hands in transfer request?
Why would city win the league with him - Liverpool never managed it!
I think the ship has sailed on a move to Chelsea for him - they wouldn't see him as being as valuable as they did three years ago when they tried to get him. If he stays in England then City would be the obvious one - logistically and financially for him - but, for England's sake, I think he would develop as a player by tryinghis luck with Madrid or Inter whom I believe are other suitors for his signature.

I really don't think Chelsea would pay the money they're asking, but for Gerrard if he actually wants to win trophies he'd be better off at somewhere like Chelsea.
Man U should put a bid in for him , to be flatly honest he's pretty much what they need in the centre of the park.

Re: Steven Gerrard hands in transfer request?
Because Liverpool never had any other decent players to back Gerrard up! With the exception of Torres and maybe Alonso for a season. Man City eventually will have a top notch team, not just a bunch of pretenders.Trimboli wrote:Why would city win the league with him - Liverpool never managed it!

Re: Steven Gerrard hands in transfer request?
Err maybe his best mate should know, and he said SG is happy at Liverpool as did Didi Hamnaan (who is working at Liverpool). But I guess people on here and the press know more.......
And as for Lampard being in teh same class, only (some) Chelsea fans think that, and as long as you believe it I am happy for you.

Re: Steven Gerrard hands in transfer request?
Wouldn't really want him at Real Madrid unless he's prepared to sit on the bench and Liverpool is willing to accept no more than 20 million pounds otherwise i'd be very happy next season with David Silva and maybe a promotion from the youth team of a young centre back to replace Metzelder. Buying back Negredo to replace Van Nistelrooy would also be good.

e-football just a question mate, if we were offered 40m and were allowed to spend the whole lot, would it be worth considering? And mate trust me Stevie is my hero...just thinking his body may be packing up after fighting so many wars for us and how 40m could go a long way in getiing some kwality in?

Re: Steven Gerrard hands in transfer request?
Good questions....
If we were offered 40m and we spent it wisely I would definitely consider it, if Rafa was going to spend it on clias like Villa/Silva I woudl think it could be worth the gamble. If he wanted to spend it on promising players I would definitely say no.
SG has been injured most this season, and I really hope this is the main reason he has not performed like previous years.
If I had to say a definite yeas or no, I would say no.
