lol., spot on.
I hear Hiddink was offered a directors position at Chelsea.
Re: january transfer window
Wouldn't be a bad move on Hiddink's part, that.
Why though? They could've picked him up for free 6 months ago...Scudetto8687 wrote:http://www.goal.com/en/news/808/austral ... alatasaray
Neill to Galatasaray.
Interesting move.
Re: january transfer window
just unfortunate timing. lucas wanted the PL cause of the quality of football. he didnt think he would be playing reserves all the time. and i think he should of been gettin 1st team football 99% of the time anyway. but now its a matter of just playing first team football regularly so he can retain his ability for the socceroos. yea the money is great from turkey, but thats just a bonus for him at the moment. he needs to top football.Chade wrote:Wouldn't be a bad move on Hiddink's part, that. Why though? can't afford to sack rafa unfortunately. i may get attacked for this but i don't entirely blame him. i think he is a great coach but we are unlucky with injuries and games this season whereas last season this time we would of probably been top 2-3A R S H A V I N wrote:with the way things are goin, liverpool look to be going up. they should sign guus hiddink.

I know all fans are the same in the sense that we're all a bit one-eyed when it comes to our own team, but please, great coach, unlucky with injuries. Do yourself a favour and wake up and smell the roses.totsreds08 wrote:can't afford to sack rafa unfortunately. i may get attacked for this but i don't entirely blame him. i think he is a great coach but we are unlucky with injuries and games this season whereas last season this time we would of probably been top 2-3A R S H A V I N wrote:with the way things are goin, liverpool look to be going up. they should sign guus hiddink.
Last season Pool were a 3 man outfield (Reina's still good) team (although they didn't realise it at the time) and they've sold one of their 3 stalwarts in Alonso. Steven Gerrard is a wonderful player but he's nearly 30 and his 'all-action' game is tough on the body. He's going to have more and more niggles as time goes on and I think his best is probably behind him. Torres is an extraordinary striker but, like all thoroughbreds, he's always likely to pick up strains etc so the long season is tough for him.
Rafa's purchases have simply not been good enough. The rest of his squad is just too average and whilst Aquilani or Rodriguez might step up to the plate, it's likely to take them a season to adjust to the EPL. Benayoun and Johnson are too inconsistent and Carra, who's been outstanding for Liverpool, is nearly finished at the top level.
The other thing is a mental one. Every time you lose, the teams around you get more confident of beating you themselves and you've lost that aura of invicibility even at Anfield.
So, if, and that's the big IF. If you can keep Gerrard and Torres fully fit then you're a top side but, any injuries to those two and you're back in the chasing pack as has happened this season.
And, just so as you don't think I'm picking on Liverpool, if they're not careful I think ManU could become not that far off being in a similar situation.

Re: january transfer window
Yeah, I agree with you there. I know that Rafa's had to go for the cheaper options in terms of players too, and hoped they work out - the problem is that those cheaper players are now what's costing Liverpool; they're not up to standard. The big buys are (except for Babel; I'm also not including Johnson, as his cost was partly to recover Crouch's fee).Nice One Cyril wrote:I know all fans are the same in the sense that we're all a bit one-eyed when it comes to our own team, but please, great coach, unlucky with injuries. Rarely do we play champagne football (well, at the moment almost very game is cunt football), so it's difficult to say Rafa is an amazing manager.

yeh but when u lose defenders and replace them with midfielders, u lose quality in defence and in midfield, and if you got no quality in midfield then your forwards aint gonna be getting much supplyChade wrote:Defenders aren't Rooney. Re: january transfer window
To be perfectly honest I would prefer David Silva to Ribery, just because he's been more in form, he's Spanish and hasn't missed nearly as much football as Ribery has, also Nemanja Vidic isn't a huge deal, maybe a younger centre back from the youth side would be better in terms of team chemistry, considering we have Pepe (who's been a beast in defence the past few season), Garay (has been a beast in defence since Pepe was injured...even more so than Pepe) and Albiol who's a massive manhouse of a defender.Litmanen wrote:Scrub Pepe, and then it is pretty good. Maybe I'm bias, but i think he's overrated.Madridista612 wrote:Nemanja Vidic and Franck Ribery to the Bernabeu
Only happy with the second one if he comes for no more than 30 million euros because he's too injury prone and David Silva is a much better option in my opinion, Valencia are in strife so we'll surely be able to get him for < 40 million, he's another Spanish international we can add to our ranks and he's a natural left sided midfielder.
Vidic would be a perfect signing for Madrid, one of the best centre backs in the world if not THE best centre back and would replace the soon to depart Metzelder, not sure who's spot he would take in the starting line up though, Pepe and Albiol both being world class centre backs in their own right.
I'm hoping we can sign Almunia as well, I heard his deal runs out at the end of this year...would be a good 2nd choice keeper for Casillas after Dudek leaves at the end of the season.
GK Casillas
RB Sergio Ramos
CB Pepe
CB Vidic
LB Arbeloa
RCDM Lass
LCDM Xabi Alonso
RM Ronaldo
LM Ribery
CAM Kaka
CF Benzema/Higuain
...look good to anyone?
Vidic would be a good buy, but i still think it would be better to have a calm head in defense, someone less likely to lose it (if) you guys aren't playing that well. Vidic would have to step up in that sense, because while i think most of the time he's quite solid, against world class players he crumbles a bit ( Drogba, Torres). I could see Ibra and Messi doing quite a number on him. Having said all that i don't think he's for sale, it's all just hype like the Rooney bid.
As for Ribery, it's hard to say really, if he's smart he'll move at the end of the season, he's missed 90% of this season, and the last thing you need is that much pressure when you're coming back from injury.
Apparently Real Madrid are looking in cheaper directions though, midfield revelation Sergio Canales of Racing Santander who's 18 years old and would be bought for 10 million euros but given to Racing on loan for the season and also Filipe Luis the left back from Deportivo La Coruna who Barcelona were chasing last season, he would cost approximately 16 million euros...although his buyout clause is 20 million.

Re: january transfer window
whilst i agree with you cyril, i have to give credit to rafa for building a much stronger side than what we have had in the past. Okay so he has picked up some duds but he has also picked up some players that havent been big names and have turned out to be amazing players. he has gotten us to play some great football and challange for the title and although it is not good enough, i think people have to give credit to rafa and not forget what he has done in the past
Re: january transfer window
Im going to jump on the bandwagon and agree with you too! Particularly about RAFA'S purchaes not being good enough. I read an article the other day (think it was in the Guardian) and it was all about Rfas flops! It listed around 15 players, past and present and what they have done for the club or should i say what they have not done! At this level, although his on field tactics are very good, his eye for talent has been shite in all honesty. For this reason i think he must go! I would be so angry as a fan if Wenger bought some of the rubbish Benitez has invested in. New manager for Liverpool and a fresh start i say!!Nice One Cyril wrote:I know all fans are the same in the sense that we're all a bit one-eyed when it comes to our own team, but please, great coach, unlucky with injuries.
