AUFC stars given Asian Cup nod against Kuwait on January 6.
December 22, 2009 04:30pm
ADELAIDE'S Eugene Galekovic and Scott Jamieson have been named in coach Pim Verbeek's 23-man Socceroo squad for the Asian Cup qualifying match against Kuwait on January 6.
Also included were Brisbane's teenage sensation Tommy Oar, who has had a strong season for the Roar and Melbourne's Archie Thompson, who hasn't donned the national shirt for almost a year, join a squad that includes 15 A-League players.
Joining Oar as a debutant in Australian senior team colours are Melbourne Victory defender Matthew Kemp and Perth Glory `keeper Tando Velaphi.
Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Danny Vukovic, has been selected in the Socceroos squad previously but could make his senior debut if he takes the field against Kuwait.
Sydney FC defender Simon Colosimo also makes a return to the Socceroos squad after last playing for Australia in a friendly against China in March 2007.
Eight overseas-based players join the A-League contingent headed-up by consistent midfielder Luke Wilkshire (FK Dinamo Moscow, Russia).

He's hardly going to make the WC squad but about time Kemp has got a call-up.
One of the best defenders in A-league for last few years.

what has matt mckay done this season to get a call up?
From memory he has missed a lot of the season - does Pim expect him to crack in and take a spot from Cahill, Bresciano, Culina, Jedinak, Valeri or Grella - surely not.
I know its probably not the best indicator but even Adam Hughes has more fantasy points!

He is not currently a citizen of FYR Macedonia, so I don't see how he can.Red-4-Life wrote:Sasa plays for MacedoniaKitchimo wrote:Interesing no significant Asian-based players, no Sasa, no Milligan, no North etc.

Perhaps the only disappointment for Ognenovski is the continuing absence of an international career - either with the country of his birth, Australia, or the country of his heritage, Macedonia.
''Macedonia called me into two squads but couldn't arrange my passport - in fact they still haven't,'' he said. ''They know where to find me. As for the Socceroos, you'd have to ask Pim. All I've ever wanted was a chance.''
