Re: Messi the Greatest
Messi the Greatest? You mean better than Diego Armando Maradona?
When you compare the two careers side by side, hard not to argue that Messi at age 22 has achieved more than Maradona did at the same age.
If Messi leads Argentina to a world cup victory you could almost argue it's a non contest.
Although I'd love to have seen Maradona play along side Xavi & Iniesta.

Translator, Diego Armando Maradona aka Dio, is the greatest of all time.
Messi the greatest just at this point of time.
Sorry for the misunderstanding

Re: Messi the Greatest
Fair topic though. Are you trying to say regardless of what Messi achieves in the next 10 years he'll never been greater than Maradona? I could say the same about MeazzaScudetto8687 wrote:Translator, Diego Armando Maradona aka Dio, is the greatest of all time.

On a side note, while I enjoy the hammering you give the Royal tosser you're better off ignoring him. By replying he only keeps coming back, ignore him and more chance he'll do us all a favour and piss off or change his ways.
Never argue with an idiot, they only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

can someone get rid of king dickheads signature...... that's farked.
Messi dominated last year, and the CL final was the icing on the cake. Very Hollywood.
Speaking of Hollywood, has Benzema scored yet?

Impossible to put up a logical argument against Messi winning this year and he certainly seems more likeable and more humble than last years recipient.

in 2009 Messi won EVERY team and individual honour on offer to him. Is there a single player in the history of the game that can boast* that stat?

Surely Xavi and Iniesta deserve as many honours as Messi has received from FIFA.

Completely disagree, Pele is the greatest player of all time. So many young people never saw much of Pele.

Re: Messi the Greatest
Love him or hate him, I'd still have to say that Ronaldo is the more complete player, I don't really think the votes reflect that, to be honest I think Iniesta and Xavi are a lot better than Messi, but Xavi and Iniesta are more of the type of players that set up chances and play those spectacular defence splitting balls that no one else can, it seems to me, that to win the Ballon D'or and FIFA World Player of the Year, it's pretty much all about goals and the trophies you win.
I think Ronaldo was a good winner, because contrary to what people said the year Manchester Utd won the CL, he did make some incredible passes, although will definately be remembered for his 42 goals.
Kaka was a good winner, combined scoring goals, taking on players and absolutely leaving defenders for dead with his passes
Ronaldinho for me was the best out of this crop, at his prime, the guy reinvented football, he did absolutely everything the season he won the award. Free kicks under the wall, overhead kicks, leaving world class defenders scrambling to say on their feet and scoring an absolute packet of goals. I'll also never forget that goal he scored against Chelsea...simply sublime

I agree with what you said to an extent.
I think Xavi, Iniesta and Messi are all pretty on par, but they do different things.
i also agree about Ronaldinho, however many years ago it was - he actually did reinvent football, when all that joga bonito/nike shit came out.
amazing.

Messi had more assists than Iniesta in La Liga last season, plus he had more goals. And even his ratio of goals/assists, is better than Xavi.
2008/09 La Liga
Messi: 23 Goals, 11 Assists
Xavi: 6 Goals, 20 Assists
Iniesta: 4 Goals, 6 Asissts
2008/09 UCL
Messi: 9 Goals, 5 Asissts
Xavi: 2 Goals, 7 Asissts
Iniesta: 1 Goal, 2 Asissts
And then this season.
2009/10 La Liga
Messi: 9 Goals, 5 Assists
Xavi: 0 Goals, 5 Assists
Iniesta: 0 Goals, 2 Assists
2009/10 UCL
Messi: 2 Goals, 0 Assists
Xavi: 1 Goal, 1 Assist
Iniesta: 0 Goals, 0 Assists
I think you should take off you Madrid coloured glasses.

to many people the battle for the greatest does not include maradonna, it centers around Garincha and Pelemushrow wrote:[/code]Translator, Diego Armando Maradona aka Dio, is the greatest of all time.
