Rachael Quigley, Donna Cockayne, Marijana Rajic, Sian Mclaren, Ashlee Faul, Ruth Wallace and Angela Fimmano all in the Lady Reds. While Emma Wirkus is at Perth Glory. Maybe some more talent to come through to them for W-League season 3? Definately a talented SASI team imo

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Congratulations to all the 2010 SASI scholarship holders!
Why are you saying Donna won't play for Metro???? Half scholarship players can play for their clubs. And I think she's also classed as homegrown.
I heard that some other players will have to move from their club though because of the new SASI/WLeague players rule. Does anyone know what the rule is exactly? I know that there is a max of 3 WLeague players, but not sure when a player is 'homegrown'...

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
okay was just wondering... i assumed that this would be the SASI squad for next season but i guess only some of them are in that team..makes sence if they are just half scholarship players.Bad Egg wrote:Congratulations to all the 2010 SASI scholarship holders!

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
R-4-L....
You obviously need some instruction on the way the womens sasi program etc works?
Firstly - Homegrown rule is simple - a player who has been with their current FFSA club for a minimum of 3 consecutive years.
Associate scholarship holders are part of the sasi squad and do play for the sasi team (but full scholarship holders who are available to play on any given week usually take preference with regards to making the team-sheet), they only have to attend 3 training sessions rather than the 6 or 7 which full scholarship holders do - therefore they are allowed to train with their FFSA club once a week, and play one game per week-end for thier club. (Full scholarship holders cannot register with an FFSA club)
Now someone like Donna (who I'm pretty sure would be classed as home grown to Metro) has both SASI & W-League status. As such she would take one of Metro's 3 W-League player allocation (not sasi). As such, if Metro have more than 3 W-league players they would ideally like to register for 2010 you would assume that she would take priority over a player not home-grown to Metro such as Lauren or Greta. It is players such as Lauren & Greta who may find themselves in position where Metro cannot register them for the 2010 season.
Hope that makes things a litle clearer?

Thanks pvfc. If homegrown means 'minimum 3 years' then the rumors I heard are spot on.pvfc wrote:R-4-L....

In 2010 clubs can have max 3 SASI players and max 3 WLeague players based on 2009 squads, unless they are homegrown. Metro have Kristy, Rochelle, Donna, Ebony, Lauren and Greta who are Wlaegue players. Basically this means that Ebony, Lauren and Greta have to find another club because they haven't played at Metro for minimum 3 years. Quite simple. Where can they go? I hope they go to C'town or P.Hills, if those clubs are smart they are already in touch with these three excellent players. Imagine how strong P.Hills could become with those recruits!
Are there other clubs/players in that situation?
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Just take note that I said some players may be unable to register with their current clubs - who knows what twists and turns there may be before the start of the season, and how rigidly the rule will be applied?......let's see what the state of play is by the end of Jan when clubs and FFSA have had their 'vigorous negotiations' over how the rules apply!
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
you are right pvfc! I nearly forgot that it is FFSA we are dealing with!!
But seriously, if the rules are applied then each team can only really have 3 WLeague players unless they are homegrown. Which puts those three players in a difficult spot.

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
No other clubs are affected but Metro when it comes to the W-league Rule.
I was a Metro player before a w-league player and therefore believe, along with many of my teamates that we should not have to leave a club because of a rule that has been bought in after we have already played there a year.
If it is deemed due to this rule that i cant play at metro then i will not be playing premier league at all for any other club and will just play at SASI in 2010.

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Yeah I hear you. But can the FFSA re-change the rules or make amendments for one club only? This would make them look absolutely ridiculous and lose that little credibility that they are trying to get. Sure they would have thought about the consequences (well, you'd think so!) when they sat down and put together this new sasi/wleague players rule.SpazzTic wrote:No other clubs are affected but Metro when it comes to the W-league Rule.

If you look at it from another point too, they may be even happy if you don't play club as there will be room for some new talent.. They won't lose you to the sport because you still play sasi and wleague, and they will create room for someone else who otherwise would not find space.
Just a thought, but yeah, I agree with you that it's harsh but I don't think that now they can re-change the rules just because of three players. We'll see, you know that with FFSA anything can happen!
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
I doubt they'd be happy because they'd be losing a quality player which directly affects the competition. They should be encouraging players like SpazzTic to be playing premier league because she is a quality player who brings a lot to the game and many players can learn from her ability. Just my opinion.Bad Egg wrote: If you look at it from another point too, they may be even happy if you don't play club as there will be room for some new talent.. Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
I agree OU, I'm not saying that this would be right at all. Just put an idea out there. The best players should play in the Prem League IMO.
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Far easier to let Metro (only because they have been put up as the example) keep their 5 w- league players and let them have 1 SASI (homegrown preferably) making a total of 6.
Fulham have 4 w-league girls (including Rachel?), so they should be able to have 2 or 3 SASI girls, preference to homegrown.
You may find that some W-League girls may prefer to change clubs, but if this does not happen, then if clubs only have 1 W-League girl etc then they should be able to have 5 SASI with preference to home grown and included in the 5. To take the overall total to 6.
If there are not enough W-League and SASI players to go around and people are serious about lifting the Premier League standard this to me means there are to many teams in the Premier League. Bite the bullet now I say.

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Linking the standard of play in the premier league to the numbers of SASI and W-League players in each team makes sense to a point, but I'm curious as to how many of each are playing at CIty, given that they took out the double last year- I'm asking cuz I have no idea and am interested in the idea that a club can field a high quality prems team without maxing out on W-League and SASI players.
I also like Beaches' idea regarding having a combined total of 6, however given that the age of SASI players is declining fast (one 12-year-old for example) I think the assumption is that W-League players will by definition be more experienced and of slightly higher quality, therefore it makes sense to differentiate between the two.

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Yes Adelaide City had Papa W-League, they also had Leanne Slater as experienced players.
Adelaide City won the double because they were the best team.
By this I mean the old saying " A champion team can beat a team of champions."
Possibly some clubs may look to the players they have developed and stick with those. Maybe a happy club orientated group of players can perform better.
There have been very young SASI squad members over the years (not many 12 years olds) but numerous 15 year olds. There are also numerous girls who played Prems as 13 and 14 years of age and are key players in W-League, and Prems 8-10 years on.

Sad that players have to leave their clubs because they play in the W League.SpazzTic wrote:No other clubs are affected but Metro when it comes to the W-league Rule.

But you're wrong Spazztic, also Fulham is affected by this rule and one of their W League players will have to go. I think Quigley left the club but they still have 4 players.
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Yes there were 5 Fulham players in W-League this past season. One was out of sight out of mind. Playing for Perth Glory.
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
OMG it's true! Emma Wirkus played for Perth so Fulham are in a similar position too. They'd have to let go one between Emma Wirkus, Renee Harrison, Nenita Burgess and MJ Rijacic (sorry for bad spelling!). Very hard IMO.
So, there may be players of the caliber of Wirkus, Weidenbach, Chilvers and French-Kennedy looking for clubs now. If FFSA is right, they'd go to 'less good' clubs (there are also Cumby and Sturt) and make the league much better. If not, well they won't play club at all 'cause they don't want to leave their friends and focus only on A.United/SASI.
Or...FFSA may just do as usual and make weird concessions based on this and that and everything will be as before
Time will tell.

Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Apparently ppl from Metro had meetings with FFSA to rectify the situation of the WLeague/SASI players. It may even happen that FFSA changes the rules again and lets the players stay where they are if they were existing players when they joined A. United. This would mean that Metro can keep their 6 players and Fulham their 4 players and FFSA would once again look completely incompetent. What happens then next year when some other team will have players who haven't been at the club for 3 yrs playing in the WLeague??? Will they have to leave again???
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Well easy way out, let Metro have their 6 W-League players and no SASI players. "IF" Fulham have 4 W-League then only 2 SASI. Simple. Maximum total 6 on both accounts.
Re: SASI Scholarships 2010
Then this rule should be applied throughout the whole competition, a total number of 6 W-League players or 6 SASI players or a combination of both.
This has already affected players with their decisions as to which club they are permitted to go to eg Vanessa Reed was unable to move to Cumberland as they already had their 3 SASI players. Instead of changing the rules for one team, change it for the whole competition and fast, otherwise it defeats the purpose of the ruling.
Otherwise, why not just build rules around certain teams? They've done it before with SAWSA united.
