W-League Grand Final
Westfield W-League Grand Final
Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar
@Shark Park, 3pm local time
I'm tipping Sydney FC to take it out in a close but exciting game. They havent lost since round 1 while the Roar have had some up and down form over the last month. Keep posted for team news.

Re: W-League Grand Final
It’s the final countdown – Westfield W-League 2009 Grand Final kicks-off this Saturday, 19 December, 3pm at Shark Park with Sydney FC taking on Brisbane Roar for the Season 2 Championship.
Following a dominant 3-0 win against Canberra United in last weekend’s semi-final the Sky Blues will be on a high coming into the Grand Final against Season 1 Champions Brisbane Roar, who got past Central Coast Mariners in the second semi-final 1-0 to make it through to the marquee event.
With both teams boasting a wealth of talent including nearly 20 Westfield Matildas and two long serving members of the Danish National team, this match is sure to prove the ultimate final for fans of the Westfield W-League.

Re: W-League Grand Final
In my opinion,Tameka Butt is very lucky to be playing, she should have been sent off, very early in the second half in last weeks game. I dont know if anyone else saw the studs up front on slide tackle she did on her opponent ? made no contact with the ball at all.
From the games that i have seen on television,Brisbane appear to get away with a lot of fouls because they are committed late (after the ball is played ) referee doesnt see them because they are watching the ball - you have to ask what is the Referee's Assistant there for ?
Be interesting to see what happens in the final, i think it will be a good game, well done ABC for all the telecasts, and i really hope we have have different commentators, not much fun watching it with the mute on.

Re: W-League Grand Final
i believe this game is going to be shown live so i'll be watching it Sydney havent lost since round 1 and they are at home so the pressure is on them. Im tipping a decent game of football here. I think Sydney will have what it takes to get over the line with the Cove behind them....just!The General wrote:In my opinion,Tameka Butt is very lucky to be playing, she should have been sent off, very early in the second half in last weeks game. Re: W-League Grand Final
What an interesting game, i am assuming all Lady Reds players and coaching staff actually watched it ? We have some work to do to match the level of intensity of the four semi-finalists. Of course we will improve, but so will all the other teams, just doing your job is not going to be good enough, if you want to be successful. You have to do it consistently, and consistently well.
Probably a bit over ambitious talking about playing in a final, let alone Grand Final next year- we need to get a win on the board first.
Interesting that the Referee allowed the Qld GK to wear a Blue top - unless the rule has changed about GK wearing similar color to the opposition. Can someone explain why the referee took over 30 seconds to explain how the coin toss works,to the two captains- you'd think they already know.
Interesting to hear the half time comments by both coaches, the Sydney coach said his team did well to try and keep possession, making 3 or 4 passes every time ? He was partly correct, Sydney made more then 3 consecutive passes only 3 times in the whole match ( their goal in the 78th min, came after 4 consecutive passes )? QLD achieved that five times,at one point in the second half made 8 consecutive passes, almost led to a goal. The QLD coach was asked if he was happy going into the second half 1-0 up,against a very strong wind, and he said he was confident it would be enough? I thought it would be tough defending against a quality side like Sydney
The whole point of all the stats,is the play was very direct, one end to the other - you could have moved the touchlines in by 10 metres either side, because that is about as close as the play got to them, sorry ,except for throw ins.
Credit to both teams who i thought went hard at it,in trying conditions, could be why some of the distribution was bad from both teams at times, and if we are serious about next year,we need to start at least 6 months before the W league season starts. If it interferes with club soccer, then you have to decide what is more important - it may even solve a lot of the bureaucracy that surrounds who / where sasi/w league players can play,as they wouldnt be able to commit to a full club season,if our w league players are to take the national competition seriously. At the end of the day it's just another opinion.Thankyou.
