But one of the best ever, no. Just one of many very very good players, although its all subjective of course. He has consistently been a very good player, but never been near one of the top in the world at any one time. He has just been at the top level for a long time.

When he was at his best, Zidane and Figo were miles better than him. In his twilight years like now, Messi, Ronaldo, Gerrard are better than him.

he will go down as a UTD legend like Charlton though.

big call, what about his early years with his electric pace, or how he has changed his game to continue in the game, can play inside now quite easily, has had better longevity that others who have been superstars for only a couple of seasons... he helped lift what was an average united side when he started, many stars have walked into a great team...

When he was young, there waa a young player at Liverpool, who was about the same level, Steve McManaman. Macca got Liverpool to be an average team from a poor one!! He then went on and did well at Madrid but then fell away. I would never say Macca was one of the world's best, but he was at the same level as Giggs for a while without doubt.

Giggs is hardly ripping teams up as the OP said, what he does is do the 'odd' good thing very well in most games.

As I said, at rue UTD and football legend, for many reasons; but will never go down as a world great I don't think. But that is also due to him keeping out the limelight, for which he deserves to get even more credit.

(I am not putting Giggs down in anyway from my posts, I know some will think I am as I am a Liverpool fan)
haha - please tell me you didn't just compare McManaman with giggs. so funny   u made my day e

In his day Giggs was exceptional, and even now he still has moments of brilliance. last week was a good example. He's lasted the test of time, and is one of the reasons why Man U have won so much, in arguably the toughest league in the world ( over the last 10 years or so).

His trophy cabinet is proof too. Much like Maldini.

I remember those years well (and how many of you saw as much football then as now????)

Giggs had bad hamstring problems in early/mid 90s and was not that good all the time. Macca was awesome, look at his goal v Celtic, European Cup final etc. Remember he also almost went to Barcelona before Madrid.

I am not going to say Macca will go down as a better player, but whilst he was at his best (he didn't stay at his peak for long), he was better than Giggs.

It was during these days I suffered watching Liverpool under Souness EVERY Week, watching Barnes handover the flair to McManaman was about the only bright point :(

A forum is full of views, if you ask Giggs who his hardest opponent was...who do you think he would say? If I told you, you would probably spit more coffee out..as you don't like the truth

MUFCBOY wrote:now im not sayin that giggs is better then maradona, but giggs has been doing it at the highest level for 19 yrs! after watching giggs against city and stoke with my old man the last 2 weeks, we came 2 this discussion.
is a player whos been playing at the highest level for 19 yrs better then a player who was player at the top for 10 yrs???

4 me diego will ALWAYS b the greatest, followed by george best
but giggs has been so consistant at the highest level. would that put him in the top 10 of all time?
Maldini for me (if you talk about longevity and consistency + 5 European Cups, 5 Scudetti, 1000 Games for milan).

Daylight

Then Giggsy.

Maldini won 5 European Cups because he played for a decent team, hence the daylight between him and Giggs

maldini is very similar to giggs in their careers except maldidni came in to one of the best milan sides of all time while giggs came to a side on the rise which had to fight for its first few titles...
maldini is a great of the game, as is giggs, maldidni has more games and ECL tittles, while giggs had more league titles and domestic cups, whoever you see as greater is depending on how you view the achievements, but both very close in terms of class

90% for pelé perhaps but for maradona probably a lot less.
The wheel may have been a great invention but there are other uses for rubber which are equally important.

Better check that out Doc.

Maldini debuted in 1985 - Milan were a rubbish side and the league was being dominated by Juve.

They did not hit any heights till around 88.

And Ronaldo 07 - your mama is the only one over rated.

How can anyone say the guy is over rated - 5 Champions leagues you di*ckhead. Thats more than Man Utd have ever won.
