J5 wrote:Nonsense Zeljko, Polonia didn't disappear when they renamed themselves Croyden Kings and Raiders are certainly still around after dropping Croatia from the name. There are clubs that have changed names all over the place and remain. I'm just a big believer in names that relate to either the geographical community or local background, such as Parafield Gardens, Elizabeth Vale, Southern Knights, Paynham/Post-tel (Post Office heritage in that one I believe), BOSA, Adelaide Uni (the last 2 being school/uni backgrounds). .
We are talking about AMATEUR league not Fed FFS, in which these ethnic "social" clubs are made up of mates from that particular background, who have grown up all their lives together, and are PROUD of their heritage, and are playing football as a social get together, to hold onto something from their heritage, in this great country.
If YOU want a geographical club, go to YOUR local council, get a ground, and start your OWN club up, and leave all of our ethnic ones alone, that were set up by ethnics, FOR ethnics !!!!!!!!
If it's not broken, dont try and fix it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like I said, we are talking about AMATEURS, not Feds
And you wonder why J5 might feel like his not welcome
I hate to interrupt this argument with facts, but consider this statistic:
Of the 49 players we registered this season, 16 were of a non-Croatian background. Thats more than 30% of our players.
Ask those boys if they felt welcome at the club.
Marge, don't discourage the boy! Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals! Except the weasel.

She left about halfway through the season for a full time job. If you have seen previous trainers at our club, we are just continuing on with our high standards.
Aldo,
We tried to get your old trainer to Florina afew years ago, she would of been great working behind the bar on friday nights after training.

Surely some of the talent you have on Friday nights can do strappings and rub-downs.
J5 wrote:I just hope these new teams don't have ethinically related names. In a country where multi-culturalism is celebrated and everyone being Australian and able to interact, creating dividing lines for soccer teams is just crazy. I think the FFA got it spot on with making A-League clubs have non-ethnic names and look at what it has done for Adelaide United. If the club had remained Adelaide City the attendance would be a few thousand Italian fellas down their supporting their club but the rest of SA wouldn't give a damn.
Surely it would also help with clubs recruiting players to come out too.

J5: "I just hope these new teams don't have ethinically related names."
Miss Magic: "Why does it matter if the club is ethnic or not?"
Can't be spelt out much clearer. He thinks there's nothing wrong with having clubs with an ethnic base. He's just saying don't give it an ethnic name.
Personally, I don't care either way.
What's the difference?
Let's say, I open up a Korean restaurant to trade on a typical 'Australian' street like King William St. I've called it, "Seoul Taste". I am open for business, and my doors are open to all. I have business cards in English and trade in the $AUD. All of a sudden J5 comes along and doesn't think much of it because the big sign "Seoul Taste" doesn't appeal to him. It's not inviting enough. He walks past and decides to go to Australian Pizza House instead. Would J5 have walked in my Korean restaurant had the big colourful sign outside read "King William's Alternative Cuisine"?
Probably so, and this is the difference with someone who adapts to a multicultural society and someone who is simply an atom who finds it annoying to have to adapt to multicultural Australia. By J5's standards ethnic names create dividing borders and are too uninviting
hey J5, May I suggest we remove the CBD street names and squares because they tie too much with the Poms. While we are in the CBD, should we change the names of all the ethnic named restaurants? May I suggest changing the name of our hospital to Adelaide City Hospital? Don't really fancy the Royal part. I want to go to a hospital that's not ethnic. I might stop going to KFC too now. Not only does it make me fat, I'm beggining to hate kentuckians too.
As I said if you feel uninvited at an ethnic named club, YOU have the issues.

I doubt that will be an issue.
Another rumour: Champion of Champoions game will not be played next weekend. Something to do with one of the teams not being able to play on the scheduled date. Anyone on this forum from either Florina or Villa care to confirm or clarify?

Was a big issue for State League GF yesterday.
I think from memory it clashes with AV's presentation night. Not too sure.

Villa unable to play on the Sunday.
Working out details with Alex today, i think the game will go ahead this weekend but will be played on Saturday not Sunday. Find out more this afternoon.

Thanks for that. Let's hope the game goes ahead and that both teams are committed.

I remember that pre-season game when someone from Blue Eagles hobbled off and the trainer was rubbing his thigh. Someone should have told her he injured his ankle

Game to be played this Saturday at Grange, 2.00pm Kick off.
Being a Saturday game we might have afew players missing due to work commitments but we will be taken it seriously and i'm sure Villa will aswell. Always good to play for any trophy on offer.
Seems Earl Pudler has been confirmed as Modbury coach for 2010 and also a mention of Alan Mottram linked with Salisbury.
The Amateur league is becoming a bit of a nursery for Federation coaches !

Wouldnt be surprised if the first div loses around 10 of its best lplayers to these clubs.
