Adelaide City 1 Metro 0.
The referee cost Metro the game. That is all.

I thought the game was pretty entertaining and City IMO deserved to win especially in the first half. I don't think it was a penalty, it looked more like a dive from where I was sitting but the ref made many mistakes for both sides.
Bad luck for Metro they fought hard, but AC deserves the double this year.

What was more embarrassing that the ref's mistakes was the crowd that booed her at the end.
Metro crowd I imagine, but that's irrelevant. Interesting to see what they would have done had they won the game.
People like that should stay home. Lucky that most others didn't appreciate it and stood up and clapped when the refs left.

SHAME ON YOU YOU DON"T DESERVE ANYTHING!!!

well done to both teams on the park, congratulations to City.

poor poor form booing a ref. typical from Metro supporters though. At the end of the day it wasn't a penalty coz the ref didnt give it. If she has made an error then she will have to deal with it. I think Adel City were the better team on the day. Congrats for doing the double. Great finish from Bruce!

Metro deserved the win and thats that. If you think otherwise, you're kidding yourself... or you were watching a totally different game.

Metro players and supporters are actually pretty damn good sports!

Unlike city, at least they don't go over to the losing team when they win a grand final cheaply and take photos of the distraught opposition. That is nothing short of fucked up. Seriously, who the fuck does that?

Also about the ref, she is usually good but in this game she had no control whatsoever and made some errors that ultimately cost Metro the game.

That's a bit stereotypical don't you think? "Typical from Metro supporters." Bollocks. If that decision had been made with any other team, their supporters would have acted the same so don't even start to stereotype metro supporters.
And I cannot begin to contemplate how you think Adelaide City were the better team? They barely had any scoring opportunities, and their passages of play were non-existent. Metro deserved the win, end of story.

to be fair, if metro deserved to win, then they would've won.

sure, as i have said, the ref wasn't very good...but if you think she was one sided, then youre gaga...city were hard done by with some decisions too.

crap ref, but not one-sided.

Agreed benny.
Ref was not one-sided. Many mistakes for both sides.

As for the sportsmanship of the Metro supporters, if they had any this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion. I don't think that ANY other club would have booed the ref like they did, they offered an awful display of themselves. They make their club and by association the Metro people (and I know that there are many very respectable ones) look and sound plain pathetic. They demonstrate that apart from being terrible winners ("We kicked your ar*e" song...) they are also TERRIBLE LOSERS.

Thinking that their team was the best may be ok, but bragging about like this, showing no respect whatsoever for another team that beat them FIVE times out of five in the season that they should have dominated (great recruiting, best on papers, 4 A.United players...) is a bit out of line.

Just my opinion.

This is a forum, where people express their point of view on a certain aspect of local football, so if you think that expressing one's opinion on a matter is being a bad sport, you've got problems.

Also, just because they have a song saying "We kicked you're arse," that doesn't make them bad sports. The fact is that they won and that is how they celebrate. It has been the club's winning song for many years now so why has it all of a sudden been used against the club? I think people are putting things out of perspective here.

Another thing, people seem to keep forgetting about the Adelaide City player who walked over to the Metro players after they lost and took a photo of them. This was clearly the most un-sportsperson like act of the whole day.

Give Metro a break. They are the most successful club in the state: they have the most teams out of any club and when it comes to senior teams... well all three of them made the Cup Finals and the Div 2's won the league AND the cup. I think everyone should just control their jealousy.

If their "club song" wasn't so offensive and considered poor sportsmanship then why did they change the words a few seasons ago to "we played hard"? This isn't the first time the song has been brought up so obviously u have either only just joined the forum or only just started supporting metro. The issue with the song is where and when it is sung. How would u like it if u were beaten in a final on penalties or in extra time and then a team sings a song about them kicking ur ar.se. Its not very nice and shows no respect to the other team. They shouldn't sing it on the pitch, it should be sung in the privacy of their changerooms. Fair enough, let them sing it but they will have more neutral supporters going against them in the future

Funny you mention Div 2 now.
Everyone seems to have forgotten that they took out the league and the cup because their Prems players & supporters have been kicking up such a fuss over being "robbed" of the cup.

As for the song, I believe its been a topic of discussion among individuals for many years also, its just never been expressed on the forum because, well, it didnt need to be. But now with Metro booing the ref, and trying to show all the bad sportsmanship traits that city may have shown, which for the record, no one is condoning, someone decided to mention how degrading it may be for other teams to hear "we kicked you a**e" at the end of a game.

I dont think anyone can be jealous of people who feel they need to blame someone else for their loss, or who need to continuously strive for self praise by saying they were clearly the better team on the day.

and to quote yourself gazelle, "This is a forum, where people express their point of view on a certain aspect of local football".

True, the Div 2's did have an exceptional season and have a really skilled team.

Also, incase you didn't realise, for the majority of the season, Metro players have been singing "We play hard" instead of "We kicked your arse." Maybe you should take that into consideration.

Metro prems did play so well though. Much better than city on the night and the result just didn't reflect that at all. The referee missed two match-determining calls a) The penalty and b) When the city player caught the ball inside the box. If this happened in any professional league, the ref probably wouldn't be offered another job. This referee has experience because she has coached international games and should therefore be able to cope with these situations. She didn't and Metro paid the price.

You say what you like and I'll say what I like.

And gubs, people don't support a team for their winning song, they support them for the quality of football that they play. Metro changed the song because of people like you who have a winge about anything and everything. Seeing as I would never lose a game in extra time or penalties, I don't need to worry about that, but either way I wouldn't care what the other team sang after beating a team I played on. Toughen up!!!!

have 2 say, im very surprised to read on hear all the squabling, here was me thinkin men got right into it like this. but 1 thing we have, a silent code you could say, is that wen ur beaten, no matter if ur team dominated and had 95% of the possestion, u dnt go on and on about how u were robbed. jst because u were denyed a penalty doesnt mean u shouldnt have lost. there are 90 minutes in a game, the whole penalty shout etc took about 1 minute max of ur game time. if u were "dominating" which isnt the word id of used, the city keeper woulda made more saves n u woulda put at least 1-2 goals past her in normal time. i can understand ur dissapointed that u lost both league n cup, BUT pretty much sayin u deserved 2 win in other words aint right. u werent the better team during the course of the season, and city did wat they had 2 do 2 win. id rather win with a crappy game than dominate and lose. the stat about how uve gone in ur last few cup games doesnt prove uve been dominating lately.

city were the better team all year.
neither one deserved it but city earnt it on the night, city always finish classy and metro shouldnt have let them have a chance to shoot, but only 1 wins in the end and city did.
ref was cooked sometimes people make mistakes.
donna diving hahah u joker., like the city keeper lying on the floor for 5 minutes then running the whole pitch to celebrate a minute later.
we kicked your arse, ha its all in fun and games till someone sensative comes along.
booing the ref poor effort maybe just not applauding her would have been better.
ha just another cup final brings out the best in people..

Gazelle were you stating that Metro are the most successful club now or ever? If ever I think Fulham would come close to or even beat as their record below is impressive?

Year
2002 SAWSA Bailetti Cup R/U (Premier Team)
SAWSA Consolidation Cup Winners (Reserve Team)
2003 SAWSA Bailetti Cup R/U (Premier Team)
SAWSA u/17 League Champions
SAWSA u/17 Cup Winners
2004 SAWSA Premier League Champions
SAWSA Bailetti Cup Winners (Premier Team)
SAWSA u/17 League Champions
SAWSA u/17 Cup Winners
2005 SAWSA Premier League Champions
SAWSA Bailetti Cup Winners (Premier Team)
SAWSA Reserves League Champions
2006 SAWSA Premier League Champions
2007 SAWSA Premier League Champions
SAWSA u/13a League Champions

I would think four premier league titles in a row would put this club up near the top? then add the cup final appearances for the premier league and I would think that not too many clubs could beat this?

Metro finishing second in the league and had a great run in the cup this year. The Div 2 team taking the double was well done to them, but it would be interesting to see their (prems) stats in win / loss over cup and leagues for the last few years as I would think that other clubs could / would beat them therefore not making Metro the 'most successful' club

Just an opinion

Yea they are probably the most successful because of the large number of players at the club and having the most teams out of any other club in SA.

When you look at a club's success, you don't just look at the prems results for the last five or so years, you have to look at how all of the teams have performed and Metro senior teams have done exceptionally well. A club is also successful on the front that it is welcoming, has a great atmosphere, is family friendly and the girls get along well both on and off the pitch. Ever seen a match where the Metro players are having a go at each other? Don't think so.

Actually, they can get really fired up at each other on the pitch. This is from someone whose played against them.

And for the record, Adelaidepie did list achievements from Fulham teams as young as U13s.
