better yet
give the CSL teams the option to join either the sat or sunday amateurs and work your way up from there.

Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
The offer has been made and rejected...repeatedly. SAASL has previously invited CSL teams to compete in the Cup competitions...also rejected. Some flexibility from all parties would be required and I cannot see that coming from some of the current incumbents.nachoman wrote:give the CSL teams the option to join either the sat or sunday amateurs and work your way up from there.
Any way...tghis thread is going way off original topic. Maybe someone can start a new thread? I cbf'd.

*all data taken from CSL website.Rob Lozza wrote:Yep - here's a quick thought to provoke discussion. Form two "Premier" divisions of equal status - equal mix of current SAASL and CSL clubs (drawn by ballot). At end of season, the top five teams from each division form the Premier Division for the following season and the rest form the new Division 2, and also no promotions and relegations to/from the Premier Division either that season. This would mean of course that the current Division 2 would have to drop to Division 3 so more than a few tears and whinges here. And the chance of this happening? Almost zero.Kitchimo wrote:Anybody think of ways how this could work?Kitchimo wrote:If they were progressive they would merge and add 17 more clubs to the Saturday divisions, including some that would push the top teams in Division 1.
Of course, if everyone is genuinely interested in working in a progressive and co-operative manner then the inevitable screams will be quickly forgotten. I believe it is ridiculous that there are tow non-professional football competitions in the Adelaide metroplitan and surrounding areas. SAASL was ready to join the FFSA and then manage the new Amateur Division however all this fell to crud over a matter of ~$40K.
My thoughts are similar. There are 17 Collegiate clubs total. The aren't going to want to join or merge with the SAASL and all get lumped in the bottom divisions. It will take some convincing of current SAASL clubs to allow any sort of proposal to happen. There needs to be a medium that allows the current SAASL clubs to maintain their current division status and have the same opportunity to get promoted and relegated. Something like this?
(You would have to assume that the SAASL has 4 Saturday divisions of Firsts/Reserves)
Year One
SAASL Division 1
SAASL Division 2 and a concurrent CSL 'Division 2' (containing the top 10 teams that are currently in Division 1 and 2)
SAASL Division 3
SAASL Division 4 insert the remaining first/reserve clubs (4) and also the C/D squads if available (Rostrevor, Unley, Pembroke etc) - maybe 12 league team if required.
The one club teams and the C teams go into the relevant C divisions.
End of Year One
SAASL Division 1 - bottom two relegated
SAASL Division 2 - top two promoted, bottom two relegated
CSL Division 2 - top two into Division 1, 3/4 into Division 2, 5/6/7/8 into Division 3, 9/10 into Division 4
SAASL Division 3 - top two promoted, bottom four relegated
SAASL Division 4 - top two promoted, bottom four relegated
Year Two
SAASL Division 1 - 12 teams (+1/2 from CSL Div 2)
SAASL Division 2 - 12 teams (+3/4 from CSL Div 2)
SAASL Division 3 - 12 teams (+5/6/7/8 from CSL Div 2)
SAASL Division 4 - 10 teams (+9/10 from CSL Div 2)
SAASL Division 5 - new clubs + bottom 4 teams from old Div 4 (which happened this year - Pumas, Falcons, Simba etc) - if they get 8, then sweet.
Year Three
At the end of the second year, 2 go up and 4 down from top three divisions to make 10 team leagues, and two go up and two go down from division 4 to make it a 10 team league - meaning two up and four down the year after into Division 5.
There's sure to be a better way to please everyone.

Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
Yeah that's why they all beat the 'A' grade sides and made it to the last rounds of the cup. Oh hang on........totti wrote:a3 collegiate select would beat both sides easy.

Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
pick best players from each a3 side- quality team
Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
That does not make sense. If the players are any good, surely they would be picked for the Collegiate League Select team regardless if they play for A1, A2 or A3?totti wrote:pick best players from each a3 side- quality team
Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
So Im assuming that the squad is a secret as no-one seems to be able to list it?
Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
Don't know if they have had any trainings sessions yet mate. A lot of the people invited to train were listed at the start of this topic though.

Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
the best players didn't bother, windser didn't even trail their players
Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
'cause they were all too cool to play!totti wrote:the best players didn't bother, windser didn't even trail their players
What a joke, there are some fantastic players in all divisions of the collegiate league, i mean no-one would argue that Corey Artone was probably the best player in any collegiate team while at Norwood, but the simple fact is that the 'A1' division is the 'A1' division for a reason. Grads Red finished 2nd in A3 and lost 4-0 to the SEVENTH placed side in the A1 div in the cup, Uni Black C beat Windsor and then got thrashed by rostrevor 6-1 I think that says it all.
Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
totti clearly Div 3 teams r not up to general standard of Div1 ..................otherwise theyd be in Div 1
but it is a moot point since a SAASL team would beat a collegiate team any day of the week regardless of what div made up the players.
On another note well in to Mercedes who won 3 out of 4 titles this yr, Div 1 Div 2 & Div 4.

Re: Saturday Amateur Select v Collegiate League Select
I heard that eighteen people trained last Thursday and that there is another training session tomorrow. BOSA and Villa players were pardoned for the first two sessions apparently due to their cup and champions commitments. So with these players available to train too soon- I guess there will be a squad of about 25- 28. The final selection will include 14 on field players, two keepers and 2 emergencies.
