Get of your high horse.

Why does it matter if the club is ethnic or not? Like I said if you feel like an outsider because of a clubs ethnicity then that's your problem. Heaps of people aren't deterred by ethnicity but it seems you are. I have no hesitation to go and get chinese take away or to go to the indian festival. YOU are problem. learn to adapt in this truly multi cultural society.

Not going to bother with you anymore as you can't see past your red nose.

Agreed Aldo, but the Salisbury part softens that so it is not blatant. And that is all I am saying.

Bomber - yes I can't spell :)

Miss Magic - I'm disappointed that someone who is obviously passionate about this topic doesn't wish to have a civilised, coherent, factual, respectful and meaningful conversation. Isn't that the true point of these forums?

That being said, let's all move on.

J5 wrote:Nonsense Zeljko, Polonia didn't disappear when they renamed themselves Croyden Kings and Raiders are certainly still around after dropping Croatia from the name. There are clubs that have changed names all over the place and remain. I'm just a big believer in names that relate to either the geographical community or local background, such as Parafield Gardens, Elizabeth Vale, Southern Knights, Paynham/Post-tel (Post Office heritage in that one I believe), BOSA, Adelaide Uni (the last 2 being school/uni backgrounds). My belief is that this makes football more open to the general community rather than appearing secular or group specific, regardless of whether that is true or not.

And Miss Magic, I didn't belittle you when I said I hope not to have ethnic names, that is not saying to not have the clubs at all. 2 very separate issues there and only 1 am I talking about as the loss of those teams would be terrible for SAASL and football in SA. Take the Vipers as an example, they come from an ethnic background and created by a group involved with the Evian Assoc (sorry for any mis-spelling there crue head), but they do not have a name that says Evian Greek club. Additionally as crue head as said on this forum repeatedly, they are open to all and any who wish to join. Are they failing to succeed because of this?

I seriously suggest you re-read the content and take out you immediate negative response and think about the suggestion, then respond. In this way we might start a meaningful discussion, otherwise its down to name calling and temper tantrums like school children.

Funny how some people can't read, but can manage to type insults.

J5: "I just hope these new teams don't have ethinically related names."
Miss Magic: "Why does it matter if the club is ethnic or not?"

Can't be spelt out much clearer. He thinks there's nothing wrong with having clubs with an ethnic base.
He's just saying don't give it an ethnic name.

Personally, I don't care either way.

What's the difference?

Let's say, I open up a Korean restaurant to trade on a typical 'Australian' street like King William St. I've called it, "Seoul Taste". I am open for business, and my doors are open to all. I have business cards in English and trade in the $AUD. All of a sudden J5 comes along and doesn't think much of it because the big sign "Seoul Taste" doesn't appeal to him. It's not inviting enough. He walks past and decides to go to Australian Pizza House instead. Would J5 have walked in my Korean restaurant had the big colourful sign outside read "King William's Alternative Cuisine"?

Probably so, and this is the difference with someone who adapts to a multicultural society and someone who is simply an atom who finds it annoying to have to adapt to multicultural Australia. By J5's standards ethnic names create dividing borders and are too uninviting

hey J5, May I suggest we remove the CBD street names and squares because they tie too much with the Poms. While we are in the CBD, should we change the names of all the ethnic named restaurants? May I suggest changing the name of our hospital to Adelaide City Hospital? Don't really fancy the Royal part. I want to go to a hospital that's not ethnic. I might stop going to KFC too now. Not only does it make me fat, I'm beggining to hate kentuckians too.

As I said if you feel uninvited at an ethnic named club, YOU have the issues.

I think we are grinding axes when they are already sharp enough.

Let it go, I think (as an unbiased observer) his original comment has been blown out of all proportion.

Let's not all be so precious.

i watched a salis inter game , not sure who agianst but it was the funniest thing, inter got a penalty , very dubious but they got one. the striker for the team , took the longest run up i have ever seen and belted the ball very far right and very high the ball ended up over the fence and into a house nearby. the coach was yelling cursing and screetching all sorts of words.

it was very funny , inter lost that game 3:1 i must say they played well but the penality must have mentally destroyed them

If YOU want a geographical club, go to YOUR local council, get a ground, and start your OWN club up, and leave all of our ethnic ones alone, that were set up by ethnics, FOR ethnics !!!!!!!!
