A. City 1
Metro 0
Mow it will be hard for Metro to end up on top...
City beat them four times this year.

Another good result for Fulham 1-4 vs Sturt.
They show that they are now on the right track after a difficult season.
Sturt instead keeps struggling, last year's championship seems so far right now.
How was the game?

not too bad.
fulham def deserved to win. sturts first half was pretty decent but seemingly lost their legs in the second. linesmans and ref were not that good.

im with bennylava i watched the game from the sideline and the officials were not good at all...
ref seemed to concentrate more on commentating the game rather than actually reffing it...
good game for fulham tho..

New ladder after round 19.
Adelaide City 18 15 2 1 65 10 55 47
MUWFC Magic 19 14 2 3 54 14 40 44
Adelaide Olympic 19 11 4 4 39 18 21 37
Fulham United 19 6 6 7 32 28 4 24
Cumberland United 19 7 3 9 38 37 1 24
Sturt Marion 17 8 0 9 40 48 -8 24
Campbelltown City 18 3 0 15 24 75 -51 9
Para Hills 19 1 1 17 8 70 -62 4
With only 2 rounds to go things start to shape up.
A.City is now in front for the title with a better goal difference. Can Metro still make it?
P.Hills and C'town will be relegated (There's relegation this year right?).

Adelaide city also have a game in hand.
Sturt have 2 games in hand, which, supposedly, and not surprisingly are being played after the end of the season.
I do believe there is relegation this year, but i was under the impression that only one team will be relegated, not sure on that though!

Maybe you are right C'ling and only one team will be relegated.
Good for C'town if that's so!
Funny last year there was no relegation but Toros were relegated anyway
So I guess anything could happen this year too :?

Re: Results - Round 19, 30/8/09
yeah i think the issue last year was trying to cut prems down to 8. and unfortunately toros drew the short straw which sucks. they were a good bunch of girls and i always enjoyed playing against them! was totally unfair on them, especially considering sawsa promised them a 2 year run in prems to give them a chance to find their feet in the competition!

only the bottom team is getting relegated, so c-town should be safe, they bring div 1 champions up to replace bottom well here we go again!! cricket scorelines to come!
Apparently para hills girls is folding anyways, just something iv heared around.

Yes lots of clubs have complained, but dont hold your breath - I heard that the current competition arrangements may be in place for a minimum 3 year period, which would actually be bad news IMO, as I would love to see the reserves league re-instated for 2010.Pao FC wrote:ohh and apparently theres word that reserves is coming back because so many people complained!
Re: Results - Round 19, 30/8/09
All well and good to put a 3 year minimum on it, but they did promise toros a 2 year minimum in prems and that never happened... i wont hold my breath, but i will have my fingers crossed!

Re: Results - Round 19, 30/8/09
I'd like to know where people are getting their information regarding relegation! You hear something different from everyone, and the federation itself refuses to be drawn into any speculation on the subject! I think we're going to be in for some major problems either way however. Knights and C'town have struggled to put points on the board this season, but from what I've seen have been competitive in the majority of their games (Metro and City are the exceptions) Knights just really struggle to score, and C'town seem to have problems with conceding goals. 1 or 2 strong defenders for C'town and a proven and experienced goalscorer for Knights would see them both become very competitive. Without them both would struggle next year to attract or retain players. There is going to be even more strife if one or both go down, I've had the opportunity to watch a number of games within division 1 and even their very top sides would struggle against C'town or Knights (perhaps a play-off between those wanting to come up and those going down would be appropriate? It would allow the strongest side to be in prems), and they are very unlikely to attract the quality players they need to even compete. Even the 2 year window of 'non-relegation' is unlikely to change things as quality players tend to be attracted to the strongest clubs, and the better players in these lower teams get frustrated and tend to drift off to other clubs. If we want a truly competitive Premier division from top to bottom, I think we need some changes at federation level. They are trying to make moving to lesser clubs more attractive with the abolition of the reserves, but this is (as they admit themselves) a long-term plan, and we run the risk of things getting much worse before they get better. I know we have discussed this situation at Knights ad nauseum over the past season and about the only solution we can come up with is to allocate the full-time SASI girls to the geographically appropriate 'lesser' clubs, whether that is Knights and C'town, or to the promoted sides. There shouldn't be a problem with the 'home-grown' players leaving their clubs as it would only be for the duration of their scholarship, also perhaps as United players are now sort-of full time, maybe a restriction of numbers at clubs in the off-season as they did with the men's for the first few seasons would be appropriate. Girls would be more likely to stay at their clubs if some of these talented girls came in, and they would provide a great example for those striving for the next level, it would also make the smaller clubs are more attractive offer for other players looking for a new clubs if their first team opportunities are limited at another club. Otherwise I reckon we're just going to see the same old cycle with clubs the div 1 and bottom prems sides going on a promotion and relegation merry-go-round!!

unfortunately the gap between the top 6 prem sides and the bottom 2 prems sides and div 1 is only widening.
changes need to be made asap.

Sturt arn't folding, but instead, taking the place of the clubs that are folding.
next season, as well as the current Sturt Marion, we'll see:
- Sturt City
- Sturt Part 2
- SMWFC Magic
- Sturt United
- Sturt Town

Re: Results - Round 19, 30/8/09
the season would never end with all the 'to be played after season finish' games they'd have in hand.

It's silly to have teams going down being replaced by even weaker ones!

(1) This is simply not working - as time goes on the players are just coming to the realisation that Div2 is just Reserves under a different name, and I'm not aware of many (if any) girls who have actually moved to Div1 from the old Reserves teams as FFSA hoped.
(2) With regards to the full scholarship SASI girls, they could well not want to play for a different club, even if it's only temporary....
No easy answers I'm afraid, but I am definitely an advocate of bringing back Reserves - just look at the gap between the top Div2 teams (all prems clubs) and the others. It's far worse than the gap between the top 6 prems teams and the remainder of Prems and Div1.
I agree the play off between clubs to be potentially relegated and promoted would be a good idea.

Re: Results - Round 19, 30/8/09
The play off system is in place in Scotland and also was in place between Premier league and Champions league some time a go eg Charlton and Leeds. There would be numerous agruements for and against this and all agruements would be good, however which one would be right is anyones guess.
The problem you have with this is if the same teams keep finishing bottom of prems and top of league one and no changes happen eventually the player will give up seeing it as a for gone conclusion that they won't make it. Soem how you need to reward the teams coming 1 / 2 in div one and also ensure competition for those in prems. Maybe a loan system along the lines of Mr Rodgers has mentioned could be looked at?
Also in my opinion there wasn't enough support for Toros when they were getting relegated and also to keep the reserves last year. It seems like some of the prems teams may have had a little change of heart to get the reserves back which is what, in my opinion should have happened last season.
All in all I think next season the FFSA should ;
1. re introduce the reserves.
2. Make reccomendatinos for the up and down between prems and league 1 and introduce them after consultation in 2 years. If this means play offs so be it. But you can not introduce the play off for this year. Not fair to prems or div 1.
3. Abolish the 11 player squad. Deosn't work, too many ifs but s and maybes with this. Most I have highlighted in other postings.
4. Look at the Introduction of clubs. Maybe this is part of the problem, too many teams spreading the quality of players. Maybe the FFSA should be runnig along the same lines as the men. A team can not join in 'Senior competition' until a team drops out, is relegated or an expansion takes place. May I say here I want the competition to expand but not at the expense of lessening the quality of the game. A good example of this is when a new club started down the road from an established club, knicking a number of players from their new close neighbours. If the new team only has for example two teams what is going to happen to this team unless they either recruit really well or keep knicking players, ultimutely they will die again and some of those players knicked may drift away from the game. Meaning players lost.
Just a couple of thoughts here but open like Mr Rodgers for commenns and thoughts. The more we discuss the more ideas that can be presented to FFSA.
