Re: European attendances for 08/09 season.
On the whole the Bundesliga is the most attended top flight division in Europe.

Germany also has the biggest population in Europe so they should be up the top there somewhere. Scotland does well with there support considering the country only has 3 million people so if you worked it out per capita Scotland would be miles a head

That I did know, but Scotland has fewer teams.

Re: European attendances for 08/09 season.
Germany still lets people stand up at league games, and tickets are quite cheap in comparison to other leagues, but I must say the numbers are still very impressive. The WC was a big bonus to them with lots of new/upgraded stadiums as well.
Re: European attendances for 08/09 season.
They used to be around the 80,000 mark... it's not a bad drop considering how well the team (isn't) going. Mind you, 73,000 is down from 77,000 the year before.Shearer FFSA wrote:The Joker wrote: 4. Borussia Dortmund – 73,802

There are only 4 stadiums in Italy with a capacity of greater then 50K, so not really that much of a surprise is it ?themagnet wrote:quite surprised only two seria-A teams made the list.

Bundesliga attendance topped even the 35,594 fans the EPL averaged this season. Dortmund led all clubs with 74,851 fans per game, which would have placed them second behind Manchester United in the EPL. Only three clubs saw declines in average attendance this season, while three clubs (of those returning from '07-08) saw double-digit increases. Listed below is club-by-club attendance for the German Bundesliga for '08-09, with comparisons to last season. Also below is an attendance trend for the Bundesliga from recent years (THE DAILY).

Re: European attendances for 08/09 season.
Firstly, Germany have the stadia to accommodate larger crowds thanks to the World Cup upgrades. Plus, with over 150% of England's population (82m versus 52m) and less games played (34 versus 38), it's not really that surprising that they get bigger crowds. I have no doubt that Manure would get 100k every week if they had a bigger capacity.
What is perhaps more surprising is that they perform relatively poorly in European comps compared to Spain, Italy and England.

The price of tickets in Germany are almost half of the prices in England or Italy.Nice One Cyril wrote:Firstly, Germany have the stadia to accommodate larger crowds thanks to the World Cup upgrades. I watch the bundesliga games on one HD, they are very entertaining game, lots of attacking football and their is a least 5-8 team that could take the title this year.

Re: European attendances for 08/09 season.
Dortmund's attendance is even more impressive considering the city is only around 500-600k people.
But Schalle takes the cake here, they average ~61k but only have around 200-300k population.
However, they get a lot of support from Essen a big city without a team which is only ~20km away.
Either way, very impressive.
