Re: Spurs v LFC
i thought this was funny enough...
*Rooney was onside when the cross came in, however when he struck the header he appeared to be goal side of the defender. Off the post, with no touch from the keeper puts him in an offside position. Technically. But very difficult for the assistant to see
but then you follow it with this gem.....
If rooney was in an offside position when he made contact with the ball, then hit it in off the post - its offside.
nearly lost my lunch....

Re: Spurs v LFC
haha - ur a re-tard, the rule for a penalty isn't because the taker would be offside it's because the ball is out of play until the penalty is taken, the taker can't touch the ball again once he's kicked it into play until another player on the field has touched it. just like a free kick, kick off, corner, throw in etc you can't kick the ball to yourself. The Kop wrote:^ you should perhaps be asking yourself that question.....
When a penalty taker blasts in a rebound off the post (without the keeper touching it), will the ref allow the goal to stand???????
If rooney was in an offside position (ie goal side of the last defender) when he made contact with the ball, then hit it in off the post - its offside.
thanks mate, you've just made my day. funny stuff.

OMG that is one of the stupidest comments i have ever read about the off side rule. Ask a ref to explain the rule to you properly....or a ten year old, either one would be able to correct you.The Kop wrote: Man U played pretty poorly against a team that is almost certainly to be relegated at home. Not many teams will get 3pts at the lane this season.
Dunno where all this expert commentary is coming from this morning.
Man U played pretty poorly against a team that is almost certainly to be relegated at home. With a questionable offside goal *.
Chelsea needed Drogba brilliance in the last minute to get past Hull, another side that may battle this year to stay alive.
Arsenal, well hats off to them, all the gooners jump back on the bandwagon.
How you can draw conclusions after the first round.......beyond belief.

Re: Spurs v LFC
My only concern about yesterday...Yossi not starting! Gerrard, Torres etc will play better we know that, but I worry Rafa won't use Yossi as much as he should. You don't win/lose the league on the first day, so no need for anyone to panic.

Kuyt, Lucas, Insua and Babel had shockers...i think yossi should be starting where babel did, pop babel/aqualiani just behind torres and put gerrard back in the middle, we need someone to cover the hole Xabs left. I said last night before the game, i think liverpool will be somewhere in the top 5, spurs, man city, arsenal, chelsea and man u will all be around the mark.
I had a multi on Tottenham to win this one, would have collected over 1.7k if bolton drew.
I have to say, Tottenham looked very impressive, Assu-Ekotto (sp) what a goal, Keane looked very impressive as did Corluka. At the start of the game i was wondering why Spurs bought Bassong, let alone started him, but maybe he was just shite because he played for Newcastle.

Re: Spurs v LFC
i dont think you no the rule kop , how could rooney be offside if he was the last person to touch the ball , not saying he did but you cant be offside for passing the ball to your self .

Re: Spurs v LFC
There's been much talk for precious little certainty.
The only conclusion that can be drawn is you're all re-incarnated jesters from the middle ages...
Its black and white in the laws of the game:
A player is deemed to be offside, if, by where, he is nearer to his opponents' goal than the second last defender.
The cross is one play. The next phase begins when the header on the post is the other.
Hart #1 opponent, where is number #2?......On the other side of Rooney.
So therefore, how can it not be offside?
An argument contrary to the above is an argument against the laws of the game.
Finally, on an unrelated manner. I'm such a poor angler, but it turns out after all these years I've been using the wrong bait....

Re: Spurs v LFC
So if you get a through ball, are 20m clear of the last defender, slide it past the keeper and it hits the post and rebounds back to you you are offside, don't think so :? It's not much different to dribbling the ball past someone, technically you couldn't touch it again after going past the player under your interpretation.
Re: Spurs v LFC
you also have to be ahead of the where the ball is passed from
maybe Rooney was getting ahead of himself ??

A true anomaly of the laws of the game.pires7 wrote:So if you get a through ball, are 20m clear of the last defender, slide it past the keeper and it hits the post and rebounds back to you you are offside, don't think so :? Much like how the laws state that a goal cannot be scored directly from a re-entry after the ball is dead.
The ball is dead once it leaves the field of play. Throw-in, corner and goal kick are the only istances when the ball is dead.
Yet if someone bends in a corner and it touches no-one on the way through to passing the goal line, it stands.
Yet if a poor sod defender throws it back to his keeper and it goes under his foot (Henkleman), it stands.
Double Dutch.
throwing out another line, see how we go this time...

Re: Spurs v LFC
there is no anomaly in the offside rule ...
A player is in an offside position if:
• he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the
second-last opponent
therefore Rooney was not offside at any time
a corner can be directly scored from
a throw in can't , it must touch another player , this makes sense as it does not allow a goal to be scored using the hands which is in keeping with the spirit of the game
"Yet if someone bends in a corner and it touches no-one on the way through to passing the goal line, it stands.
Yet if a poor sod defender throws it back to his keeper and it goes under his foot (Henkleman), it stands."
no it doesn't , it must be touched by another player
law 15 .... A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in
what rulebook are you reading??

Enkleman own goal...

We agree the goals cant be scored from a re-entry when the ball is dead.
This includes throw-ins and goal kicks, but excludes corner kicks?..... :? ....What makes a corner no different to the other two.
lol, still the people get fired up.......gigdy.

Re: Spurs v LFC
free kicks are also dead ball goals but are only allowed if you have earned a direct free kick
a corner is equal to a direct free kick , probably because you have "earned" it by making the defending team play the ball out over their end line .... go ahead and score directly if you can
a goal kick = indirect free kick , other team put it out by attacking , so you haven't "earned" anything... just bring it back in and another player must touch it
throw in , cant score using hands
thats the best i can come up with other than giving Graham Poll a call to find out ...

(Thats not saying much considering how badly the team performed, but I certainly wouldn't single him out as having a shocker)
