Portugal Doubtful About Real Madrid's Flu Excuse For Cristiano Ronaldo
Portugal are not happy that the world's most expensive football player will not play for them this week...

Real Madrid have been slammed by Portugal after los Blancos prevented Cristiano Ronaldo from joining the national team for the friendly against Liechtenstein in midweek.

The forward is reported to have flu and los Merengues even stated on their website that it was of a normal strain and not swine flu, as some media outlets had reported.

However, Madrid have failed to impress the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) that the player was too ill to travel.

"The way that they communicated the news to us was not the correct way," the president of the FPF, Gilberto Madial, was quoted as saying by Record.

Former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz was also unimpressed by his former employers, and he thinks that there maybe more to the issue than a simple illness.

"The Federation are going to study the situation. The information arrived late and was not clear - stating that the player ‘could not travel today’ certainly created doubts."

Record went on to state that they had discovered that los Merengues only mentioned flu after being pressed for the reason why Ronaldo would not be able to play.

"The official version put out by Real Madrid, which stated that the player had 'flu symptoms', did not convince anyone," the newspaper stated.

"Real Madrid sent a fax to the Federation on the day [Monday] and it was not until they were asked to explain that a second fax arrived claiming the player was at home recovering upon the recommendation of the club's doctors because he had flu symptoms."

Steven Gerrard has withdrawn from England's friendly with Holland as a precaution.
The Reds skipper did not travel to Amsterdam with the rest of Fabio Capello's squad after reporting a tight groin and will now return to Melwood for treatment.
fuckin' stupid friendly to be having. if torres is going to macedonia (stfu), then no doubt we can expect a fucked hammy by the time he's back.

Agree with that. There are World Cup qualifiers tonight and with a bit of luck Scotland will lose. :D
