Prems

Cumberland 0 v Olympic 1

Div 2

Cumberland 1 v Olympic 5

Good effort from the cumby div 2s to keep the score that low playing with 9 for most of the game, and for some of the game only 8

Note:

Para Hills Div 3 side only had 8 players due to injury so 6-0 was a good result really

Combination of work shifts clashing for more than normal number of players, plus injuries and illness.
On Saturday evening had 12 players 'available', but by kick off had only 10 able to play, one of who collapsed/blacked out 5 minutes into the game and was unable to continue leaving them with 9 for most of the game. (and no it wasn't a 'hangover', she will be seeking medical advice)
Just a bad combination of circumstances - could happen to any team, just unlucky it happened to them.

apparently metro were very lucky all day and the players celebrated like a cup final win as they didn't expect to win. ref played a huge role in the 15 goals scored for metro (so my neutral sources say).

We never seem to get the chance to see if we can be 'lucky' like Metro were - Comets always seem to forfeit their games against us... :(
But seriously, they can't feel good getting beaten by that kind of scoreline... maybe there should have been some 'mercy rule' applied? However Metro obviously needed the goal difference in their ongoing 'neck and neck' race with Olympic in Div2, and in that respect you cant blame them for scoring as many as possible.

Cumberland? Comets seem to forfeit their games against everyone.. not any particular teams. Lack of players, injuries etc etc. Absolute bollocks. Being the only woman's team in the club there is no option to bring players up or down from other divisions to help out from time to time :( I can't wait for the bloody season to be over!

Clubs shouldn't be forfeiting games.

Time for Comets to get more serious about women's football- You either have a women's program, or you don't- current situation doesn't sound like much of a committment to the women's game on the part of the club.

yer its not fair for the players who are there week in, week out.. come out to training and then for it to be cancelled or games cancelled due to having about 6-7 players available! What do we pay club fees for? seriously!

If the club knew it was only going to have the one team without having a big squad, why did they put them in div 2 in the first place? Surely they could have been placed in a more social division so that there was less pressure on the team and games were more about fun so the girls might hang around.

I think because the old Comets team were in div 2 before the new rules came in about teams with prems + div 1 had to change.. so they decided to leave them in that div.. I think players had requested to move down so they would be on par with the rest of the div. I believe that at least 2 - 3 teams are punching above their weight.. as you can see with the big scorelines against the top end of the div.

I wonder whether FFSA will recognise that the Reserve league being disbanded and the subequent mix up of the div2 and div3 has caused quite a bit of damage to women's football this year? Many people I speak to are saying that more harm than good has come out of that policy, and the plight of teams like Comets and Stirling in Div2 (who should never have been put in the position they now find themselves in) plus the number of players who left the game are all signs of that. The expectation of SAWSA/FFSA that reserves players would move from prems clubs to div1 clubs has also appeared to fail, so maybe the when the season is reviewed some changes for the better can be implemented for next year?
I don't believe that I have said anything out of line or disrespectful of SAWSA/FFSA here, just that they tried a change they thought would work -but it hasn't worked in many peoples opinions and I hope they can improve the situation/policy next year.

Agree with you PVFC but im about 90% sure FFSA/SAWSA won't go back on that decision and change the reserves structure next year.....

In regards to the comets womens team i think it is a bit unfair to blame the club and say the club dont seem serious about the womens comp and not committed...a team can struggle for numbers for many different reasons I dont think it has anything to do with the actual club. Players get injured, get pregnant (my club has had 2 girls stop playing this year because of pregancies! ) just rock up when they feel like it, etc etc. you cant help that. Plus, we are female, most of us roam in packs :P

i am coach of a senior womens side and i have had the same problem leading into the end of the season. our club has only one team so we registered 16 girls at the start of the season and are now down to 11! have had to sign up another girl a few weeks back just to help us over the line. for the last 6 games we have had a maximum of 1 sub and have still managed to win. obviously my side isnt the only struggling for numbers!
