Prize Money
I remembered that at the SAASL meeting at the start of the season that more prize money was being distributed. I recently emailed my Treasurer who asked me if we were in line for any (doubtful). I thought I would share what I dug up here.

Re: Prize Money
I think that relates to the sponsorship of the cup...but yeah you would think SASSL would put more $$ into the league winners
Re: Prize Money
There was no cup sponsorship this year. Nugget posted about it a few times.on the side wrote:I think that relates to the sponsorship of the cup...but yeah you would think SASSL would put more $$ into the league winners

Re: Prize Money
Those figures certainly diminish that the Div 1 title (albeit Saturday or Sunday) whould be the pinnacle, that teams wish to win, not just a cop comp that has seen 2 Sunday Div 2 sides in the final the last 2 years.
Surely winning the Div 1 league title is what each club should aim for?
However the recognition ($) for the cup winners is far greater by $1300?
It seems strange to me, that a club can finish second in the top league and get $750.00
BUT lose a cup semi final and get $800.00 (in essence finish third/fourth)
And $1000 for winning the chicken cup, is more than finishing 2nd in the elite division over 18 league games ??? WTF
What are people thoughts about the Prize Money structure - I disagree

Re: Prize Money
Maybe it has something to do with the Cup Semis and Final generating money for the SAASL, whereas league games and early round Cup games generate revenue for home clubs ?Mr X wrote:Those figures certainly diminish that the Div 1 title (albeit Saturday or Sunday) whould be the pinnacle, that teams wish to win, not just a cop comp that has seen 2 Sunday Div 2 sides in the final the last 2 years.

I'm curious to know what State, Premier and Super League clubs get in terms of prize money. Does anyone know?

Re: Prize Money
Just added it up and the SAASL distributes:
$7000 to the two Premier Divisions ($3000 each + $500 each for Fair Play)
$4000 to the two Division Twos ($1500 each + $500 each for Fair Play)
$1000 to the two Division Threes ($500 each for Fair Play)
$1000 to the two Division Fours ($500 each for Fair Play)
$500 to Sunday Division Five (Fair Play)
$7600 to the top 8 teams in the Challenge Cup
$1600 to the top 4 teams in the Reserve Cup
$1500 to the top 2 teams in the Cichanowski Shield
$1500 to the top 2 teams in the Champion of Champions
= $25,700
(warning - I didn't do University maths so may be wrong!)

Re: Prize Money
I suppose one possible reasoning behind this cup / league prize structure is so that the top teams in div 1 dont get loads more prize money and therefore be able to pay players more or attract players through money. This could create an "elite" number of teams and, i know it could be over the top, but it could create a premier league effect with the "big four" type scenario. If a div 2 or 3 side win the cup then $2800 will certainly boost their finances (as it would any div1 team too). This could be used in many ways from upgrading basic facilities, to upgrading equipment etc etc. Certainly in these harsh financial times getting sponsorship for a smaller club in divs 2 and below will be harder and harder.
So basically what i am saying is, no it might not be fair to all the div 1 teams in regards to the prize money, but the league is trying to give everyone in every division a chance at some really great prize money.

Re: Prize Money
So why aren't saturday clubs given the same opportunity to take part in the chicken shield as their sunday counterparts? Wanderers should have played it this year.East Boy wrote:I suppose one possible reasoning behind this cup / league prize structure is so that the top teams in div 1 dont get loads more prize money and therefore be able to pay players more or attract players through money. Re: Prize Money
That is a very valid point. But has the prize money changed in over the past few years? I thought next year sat teams were included?Pooraka Salt wrote:So why aren't saturday clubs given the same opportunity to take part in the chicken shield as their sunday counterparts? Re: Prize Money
There's no place for money in amatuer football, hence the word amatuer!!!!!!!
Like someone said earlier, you start this then the stronger teams will be much harder to catch as they will have money to throw at players!!!!
Amatuer players should be playing for the love of the game, if you want to play for cash, go play federation. But i know some clubs do pay players in amatuers which i dont agree with.
If money's involved, as the bloke said earlier, it should be used to upgrade facilities or training gear.
Just my opinion..

If that were the case 3/4 of the teams in Div 1 would probably be sitting somewhere much lower!

Who said the prizemoney isn't spent on that.
I think you will find that all bar 2-3 Div 1 clubs pay. Its not a huge amount of money aside from the odd club and player.
