Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
I though the possibilty to injury was apart of our game. Its not unusal for a goal keeper to hurt their hand when diving at the feet of another player to prevent the ball getting into the back of the net, and perhaps even a broken hand. I do not think any player would intentionallly go into a takle like that to break the keepers hand. For Unit o say this about the keeper is rubbish.
So does that mean the fact that I have busted my knee a few times playing soccer that I fear for my Safety, or that is someone breaks their leg, that they fear for their safetly every time they take the pitch. That is a load of bollocks. Wjen you take the pitch, you always run a risk of something happening. Do you fear for your safety every time you get behind the wheel of your car, you cant prevent what idoiots are on the road, and what they are going to do.
Also, how would a security gard stop a player from making bad takles ect. ......?

Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
i think the security guard was there to make the spectators feel safe, as the incidents they refer to last year both involved spectators... but same deal, if a group of even 3 spectators wanted to start something, 1 security guard couldnt really stop all of them.
and yes, totally agree with what you say about the possibility of injury. i dont think any player would go into a tackle to intentionally break someones hand, or leg. besides, a bad tackle can be handled as the ref deems necessary, and no the refs dont always make the right calls, but bringing players injuries into the reasoning behind hiring a security guard? makes no sense to me!

So the "give a team a break!" in your signature means something else then? I'm glad we cleared that up._changeling_ wrote:i dont think any player would go into a tackle to intentionally break someones hand, or leg.

one security guard couldnt stop a whole team, seeing as how some people are so content on labelling the entire downs team as 'disgraceful'. geez what were adelaide uni thinking? only getting 1 security guard.

Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
Hi to everyone - I haven't posted here before but this shemozzle is partly my fault so I felt obliged. A lot of people here are speculating on people and events they don't know much about - here's what happened.
There is a history between the two clubs, and there was enough concern about the upcoming game that those in charge felt the safest option was to get security there - just in case.
We're all used to a bit of biffo in the game, but it was felt that it has got out of control in some recent games, and that referees have not been able to bring it back under control, hence the decision to bring security out.
No one contacted The Advertiser wanting to make this public. This was, pretty much, my fault. I've played for about 20 years and had never heard of it getting to this level before, and I mentioned it to some people I know who happen to work at the newspaper, who realised (rightly, I think) that it was an interesting news story with a fair degree of public interest because there were plenty of other people (who did not want to be named in the article) who were concerned about the competence of referees, the outright violence, etc. etc. I know for a fact there is concern in most divisions particularly about consistency of refereeing.
So the paper contacted a range of people and wrote a story which is factual.
No one was bringing the game into disrepute, just asking legitimate questions. Everyone involved loves the game, and I have to say Kevin Holohan has done an absolute shedload for women's soccer.
And yes, the game in the end was extremely polite. The most polite game I've seen in ages. But that doesn't mean the original concerns were not legitimate. If it hadn't been for the security presence and the media attention, who knows? It could have been (another) bloodbath. Three cheers and a line up to shake hands? That doesn't happen at every match, that's for sure.

Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
Dear Slider, the idea of ONE (I actually think that changeling is right, apart from the sarcasm-what can one person do anyway to stop a brawl???) security guard remains ridiculous and your club comes out of this looking like fools.
We all played in many heated games and we all know this. You should have contacted the FFSA in time to do something about this instead. I don't know if you bring the whole game in disrepute, but if there's someone that come out of this as winners is Downs who behaved well and made your idea (publicised on the paper!!!) look just plain silly.
Sorry, my opinion tho.

Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
Slider there are a couple of points that I for one would like to point out yet again, one of which is that the two teams had already played this SEASON and no problems arose, point number two is did Elizabeth Downs as a team or any of its team members or spectators for that matter ever have a choice to opt for no mention in the paper...no I dont think they did!. Also lastly I think that is a pretty big comment about the bloodbath whether that be submising or not and totally uncalled for.Slider wrote:Hi to everyone - I haven't posted here before but this shemozzle is partly my fault so I felt obliged. how ridiculous that this has gone on so far.
kevin needs to issue an apology immediately.
feel very sorry for the players of ad uni, speakin to most they are embarrassed beyond belief and i believe some players are very relucatant to play for the club again after this incident.
poor para hills east and downs dont deserve the negative publicity at all.

That's EXACTLY how I see it atoo and basically anyone else that I spoke to about this.
If I played for Uni I would be extremely embarrassed too and certainly would never want a security guard to come and "protect me" against another club...
Uni IMO has really f###ed this one up, and also everybody else that supported their pathetic attitude with "vale stories" or "northern clubs that are rough" comments and whatever. I thought they were supposed to be a "professional club" (paying junior coaches and that) but maybe are still a bunch of...What an example they set!
Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
De uno - you say there were no problems in previous games, other people say there were serious problems. Maybe you were just down the wrong end of the pitch.
Or maybe things such as stomping on goalie's hands while they're holding the ball don't count for you. Who knows?
Marooned - NO ONE from Adelaide Uni sought publicity. No one.
Because it's Adelaide, people know people. I mentioned it in conversation to somebody who happens to work at the newspaper, and they happened to find it interesting. Because it is interesting. If it wasn't you wouldn't still be talking about it, would you?
Besides, there's absolutely nothing wrong with discussing the issues within soccer. If they don't get discussed, things don't get better and all anyone wants is for women's soccer in this state to keep growing and improving.

If you are going to quote what i said maybe it would be better for you to hit the quote button at the bottom of my thread, than to make up what you read. I actually said that Adel Uni had already played Eliz Downs THIS SEASON and no problems arose. Not PREVIOUS like you stated. I for one do not condone any sort of violence in our sport so your statement is yet another one of your stupid 'bloodbath' comments! Im not gonna even touch on the referee comment you made..........Slider wrote:De uno - you say there were no problems in previous games, other people say there were serious problems. wrong slider the publicity generated by your club has done untold damage to womens soccer, god only knows how many parents reading that absolute dribble will now not allow there daughters to play soccer? Our club does not get subsidised by any school or gov funding we rely on sponsors to get us through the year, sponsors dont want their product to be associated with the type of conduct you lot have associated with our club and one other club. This is a legal matter now and you better come up with a better reason than the backflip and denial of contact that you appear to be building a case on. I personally think you and Kevin should walk away from the game as you have no idea of the concept of promotion and benefiting to the game. SAWSA should ban the pair of you are a disgrace. From what I've been told the girls dont want you there anymore after your effort. Oh and if your buddy buddy with people in the media then maybe a page 3 apology to the two clubs may be in order.

As a QC told me today, just because you lit a match, to be accused of burning down a forest on page 3 of the daily paper is quite clearly defamation.

Apart from all the gossip, the truth, the jokes, the bitching etc. what's for sure is that both clubs come out of this disgraceful story with some damage. One comes across as 'thugs' and the other as 'woossies'. I feel sorry for the players that now get associated with these ideas...I don't think I would want to go and play for either if I was looking for a club right now.RobbieEarnshaw wrote:Obviously you were not in earshot of this, as I was.marooned wrote:The only incident with the Downs was 4 games ago your linesman/chairman being chased by one of our girls brothers after he called her a fat sl#g.
