Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
It's a shame that this story was written about in yesterday's paper, I think it could and should have been handled better, the only thing that can happen from something like this is to put the game of womens football in to shame.I think who ever told the story to the paper should be made to make a retraction.

Exactly. Surely we don't believe everything we read in the Advertiser.Kitchimo wrote:Why would you sue the Uni for defamation? One would think you would sue News Limited.
However, is EDSC a not-for-profit organisation?
Good luck for both sides for the rest of the season. As a former player for the Downs and currently playing for Uni - I have high admiration both clubs and believe they can move on without any future problems.
Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
It's all well and good to say don't believe all you read but the advertiser mentions 3 clubs,it's too bad the third club got pulled into this but who ever told the story to the advertiser doesn't really care who get's effected by this. :?

Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
Exactly WHLB!! Amazes me that the fellow that went to the paper with the article didnt even have the front to appear at the game. Lame excuse if u ask me about being interstate....seems he could have organised the trip just after hearing that the page 3 story was going to press.....'such a hero'. Leave the mess behind for everyone else to sort out!!white hart lane boy wrote:im so plz that football won today and uni cld not have won but the downs was put off there game today cos of wat was sed in the press now that guy is in the s..t over this all the best to uni for the rest of the season/ uni get rid of this guy

contrary to belief, the club didn't go to the paper, the paper got wind of it some how and came to the club.

imo, that kind of makes it worse, cuz it shows that the club had the opportunity to talk it down, keep it quiet.
but they didnt.

Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
The most baffling part is the fact they came to our ground in June and played without incident. Now all of a sudden they need security. They have brought the game into disrepute and have defamed the Downs and Para Hlls East clubs. I think Wendy and SAWSA have every right to be furious at this behaviour. ABC news was on hand to observe a free for all wrestling match and left after half time when they realised the whole story was a non event as they observed a good fair contest between too groups of girls just wanting to play soccer. Both teams shook hands and gave each other three cheers after the game. Me thinks the chairman from Ad Uni should not attend their games as bad behaviour seems only to occur when he is present.
Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
Went back to the club after the Grove Cup game and put the abc news on the big screen . Waste of time and so is this story. No doubt the Advertiser will be heading down to the local netball courts or footy oval this week for the next big scoop .marooned wrote:The most baffling part is the fact they came to our ground in June and played without incident. Then why did your club choose to comment!? Piss weak and unnecessary.BillyBob wrote:contrary to belief, the club didn't go to the paper, the paper got wind of it some how and came to the club.
Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
the story just has been blown out of proportion by the news, there was an incident last year, if a security guard is hired to help with crowd control, is that a big deal? He didn't ave anything to do in the end which is great, the Downs were superbly behaved, on and off the pitch. THe jounro's were stupid thinking they'd come and see some biff. THe ABC reporter kept asking me if biff was a problem in womens, soccer, even in the original article, no one said it was aregular occurance, there were jsut two isolated incidents last year at the uni grounds. If hiring a security guard helps some of the players feel more secure to play, nothing wrong with that. As for claims of defamation, an incident happend last year, so how is stating that it happend defamation since it did occur? Also, there was an incident with PHE, it happend, I have the video footage of it as the game was recorded. Happend, so how's that defamation again?

question.
why are you relating back to games last year, if you've played against them once already this year and there were no issues?
what was the point?
its probably a different team this year.

Can't say as to why Kevin commented, I'm not him, so not gonna put words in his mouth. You'd have to ask him why he chose to comment on the story.Rob Lozza wrote:Then why did your club choose to comment!? Was just the club didn't go running to the paper.
are people more uspet that a security gaurd was hired or that it some how got in to the paper?"It is probably overkill. But, if I had an issue with another club, maybe I would do that too. There was an incident last year when someone was reprimanded, but we didn't have any qualms with that."

Defamation is about reputation. What kind of impact do you think that the article would have had on the reputation of EDSC? Especially if it is not true?

and if it is true?
edit: to ellaborate, I don't think it's defamation, since, the incidents did occur, it's not like they are made up claims.

not sticking up for him, because the first comment is not appropriate... but who's defaming who here?
also... from what you've said here you may well be the supporter from that was involved in this last season. If so, are you still banned from matches or did you get let off like your sister because of 'who you know'?

Neither the player or her brother involved in the incident last year are at the club this year. Anyone that knows me knows how I feel about behavior at matches whether it be kids, men or women. We come down on bad behavior like a ton of bricks. This is why we are so annoyed with this story being revisited, it was dealt with, there have been two games in between without incident. My commitee backs me 100% on the tough stance on behavior. To see this on page three on Sat morning without so much as a phone call to discuss any issue your chairman may have had is extremely dissapointing. We build bridges, not tear them down.

I don't just want to have my cake and eat it, I want to go back for cheesy biscuits and tiramisu.
Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
End of the day, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion.
Uni wouldn't have been aware that the brother and player were gone (I was trying to avoid mentioning what happend in the incident since I didn't think that was necessary, but it's been brought up now). Having a security guard on hand to prevent any repeats of such crowd behaviour was a precaution. As far as I'm concerned, security is the responsibility of the home club. Everyone was on their best behaviour on the day which is great news, and I'm sure next time ,the downs and uni play it'll be the exact same.
Again on the defamation issue, it's not defamation if the comments can be proven to be correct. In the article the claims that would defame Downs and PHE are:
So can we stop talking about defamation. This topic is just going round in circles anyway.
It's probably best if we just move on, and get back to enjoying playing football.

THis statement is not falsified as even Downs doesn't deny it occuredHe said that last year during a game he was chased by a relative of one of the Elizabeth Downs players, who threatened to physically assault him.
Again the above statement cane be proven true, as I have video footage of the PHE incident and an xray and doctors evidence would back up the claim about the broken hand.Mr Holohan said the club had expressed its concern to the Football Federation of South Australia about the violence that has ensued in games against Elizabeth Downs and Para Hills East in particular.
He said Adelaide University's goalkeeper was "unreasonably attacked" by another player who stepped on her hand and broke it after the goalkeeper caught the ball.
So can we stop talking about defamation. This topic is just going round in circles anyway.
It's probably best if we just move on, and get back to enjoying playing football.

that's not even relevant
from what everyone is saying, there has been one or two games in between that incident that have been fine
and if it's a different team, than the spectators involved might not even be htere, which actually someone said they're not
so whether or not it involved spectators is irrelevant.
adl uni shouldn't have called a security guard, esp since there was game(s) in between without incident.
the paper shouldn't have got involved.
and the game shouldn't have been made to look bad.
adl uni made a fool of themselves, our leagues and wendy and sawsa/ffsa. it's disgraceful.
Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
Yes it is relevant, both incidents happend at our ground, as I said previously, home team is responsible fore security, Downs were resposnible when the uni went up there and played. Secuiryt and safety was the rsponsibility of uni at our ground, so precautions were taken. Kevin hasn't said that these incidents have been happening all the time, they were isolated incidents, but measures were taken to stop such incidents happening again. The ABC reporter (at the game on sunday) kept asking me if I thought violence was a major issue in womens soccer and I kept telling her no it wasn't, but that if having a security guard made players and spectators feel safer at the games, then there's nothing wrong with hiring one. It's about providing a safe environment for players to come and enjoy playing football. The game is only made to look bad if you read too much in to everything.ecky_8 wrote:BillyBob wrote:It'd make more sense if you knew what happend in the incidents, both involved spectators._changeling_ wrote:question.

Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
So Billy Bob your saying that both incidents with two different teams happened at your ground and the result of one was your linesman/ chairman was banned from attending games. The one common denominator here appears to be Ad Uni. Yet your club didnt mention that to the papers instead you accused two other clubs of bad behavior when in reality it is Ad Uni who now appear to be the problem team. Anyone that knows soccer can see right through this fluff. Unfortunately the 500,000 readers of the advertiser have been led to believe otherwise. Shame. Shame. Shame. A retraction and an apology would be in order, to say the least. And as far as your club not contacting the paper, thats not what the reporter told me on friday when she asked my opinion on the matter.
Re: Local Women's soccer team call in security guards
I would call for nothing less that an apology on page 3 of the paper. It has done nothing but create embarrassment to all concerned and therefore I would expect nothing less than a sincere apology. Your right, noone has stated that it is not true that what happened last year happened, but then again if it had not been instigated by Adel Uni then you have to ask yourselves would it have ever taken place. Also again I state that the two teams have already played without incident this year, and Adel Uni have to be aware that Elizabeth Downs have alot of new team members and I dare say original team members who were not involved in the incident, so is it fair that you discriminate against them? Anyway enough said, I just ask that you do the right thing and apologise in the correct manner, which would be in my opinion, page 3 of the advertiser again so all those that are not involved in soccer but may become involved in future are not going to have a grim view of our sport
