Cup Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, and Finals

Post by Kitchimo »

Challenge Cup
BOSA (Saturday Premier)
St Peters (Saturday Premier)
Elizabeth Downs (Sunday Premier)
Ingle Farm (Sunday Premier)
Parafield Gardens (Sunday Premier)
Salisbury Florina (Sunday Premier)
Southern Knights (Sunday Division 2)
Beograd (Sunday Division 3)

Reserve Cup
St Peters (Saturday Premier)
FC Adelaide (Saturday Division 2)
Old Ignatians (Saturday Division 2)
Elizabeth Vale (Sunday Premier)
Ingle Farm (Sunday Premier)
Adelaide Vikings (Sunday Division 2)
Munno Para (Sunday Division 2)
Para Hills East (Sunday Division 2)

Thoughts, predictions, rumours? (I guess it all really depends on the draw).

Challenge Cup could still have a 'fairytale' winner (Beograd). Reserve Cup has more Division 2 than Premier sides.

Hard one for the A grade, but my heart says The Downs!

Ressies money is on Farm, Great cup track record, and I dont think many ressie teams out there have what it takes to beat them.
I think my drinking club has a soccer problem.....

We (Beograd) just need a home draw. If we get it, anyone that comes will be in for a tough game!

From what i saw yesterday maybe a few clubs are not taking the Sat league sides seriously. Fulham were to be the form side in Sun Div 1 and they didn't really get out of first gear. Saints to go under radar for mine but always tough this end of the draw.

St Peter's has an excellent Seniors Cup record. No reason for them being under the radar any more.

I think a revamp of the format of the cup would be in order as i do beleive its unfair to have a Sunday team playing on the Sat and a Sat team playing on Sunday. Maybe the prelim comp could start earlier in the season and make the latter rounds of the cup a home and away type system. If Bosa made the final vs say Florina then that would be a distinct advantage for Florina if the Cup is played on the sunday (which it is). The benefit to all clubs would be enormous ie bar takings. Could you imagine the Downs 0-1 down in the first leg of the cup at home to the Vale or visa versa. Or Parafield 1-0 up in the first leg against Wanderers and taking 500 supporters to the second leg. Or Bosa being 1-0 up against Mod Vista and taking both their supporters to Richarson Drive for the second leg. Sorry had to slip that one in.

It would depend on when you start the two leg games, but where do you fit in the extra games?

I thought fulham looked the better side and played the better football, although the supporters on the side told me they were playing well below par. Both St Peters goals were from set pieces, indirect free kick in the box and a wid free kick, which was miss hit in to a shot by the looks of it.

If Fulham had equalised I think they would have gone on to win in extra time, were begining to tear St Peters apart.

As for cup changes, could have earlier rounds split in to two groups, sunday teams compete agaisnt sunday teasm and saturday against saturday, and say when it gets to the last 16 or quarter finals, then put the reaming teams in to one pot so they can face each other. Marooned' idea of home and away legs in the latter stages is also good.

Current format is more than fine for non-professional football.

My choice would be to drop the unsupported Champion of Champions concept. And i think starting the season two weeks earlier would be enough to add three round for home and away legs from round 4 ( last 16, quarters and semis). And the final a one off final at Hindmarsh on a Sat arvo would be the go as celebrations could continue till the wee hours. Keep the sat and sun teams apart till the 4th round (last 16). then merge with a home and away series.

problem wit hstarting the season earlier would be that some teams won't have access to pitches due to the cricket season. Other than that, I'm all for that idea

Teams with cricket pitches in the middle should be banned. Or dropped to div 23.

hahaha, at the uni I think only our reserve pitch (used when a match pitch is being rested) has a cricket pitch in it, and not sure maybe the div 3 pitch has part of pitch square on one wing, but even then all the pitches are pretty much still in the outfield of the cricket fields.

I went to glenunga, so I remember having to play on those pitches week in week out. What was the worst was when glenunga would hold a rugby comp on the soccer pitches, the pitches would be destroyed for the rest of the year.

Only kidding kitchimo. But cricket pitches are usually only a problem up to mid march. A club with this problem could request a couple of away games at the season start. A Consolation cup could also be developed for the 16 teams that have been knocked in the last 32 stage. And on Cup final Day have the 35s cup, the ressies cup the consolation cup and the Bianco Cup starting at 9am and generate a huge crowd to Hindmarsh.

Not sure if Fulham are the form side of Div 1. Saints play a Sunday league style anyway. A couple of very good players and a great coach.

if a story like that make page 3 there is not much happening in adelaide lately. funny how papers put a spin on things it was a nothing story that was resolved a year ago. Go to a under 10s aussie rules game on any sat morning and you would see ten times the bad behaviour.

  i have a broken foot...it took me that long to get to the PC...mate the only thing clubman and me have in common is the bar...he pours and i drink....why would you aim that at us anyways....we got knocked out last round....and besides the ball only bounces 30m high on our cricket pitch which is tiny in comparison to the ball bouncing that high on your whole pitch.....maybe with all your coin you could get acres of lawn to core it for you or something
