U13 West def North 2-1 in the final
West undefeated
U14 South def North 2-1 AET
West won U11, U12 and U13's
Very good effort.
The South U14/s won against the odds of the draw, on Saturday and Sunday they had to play their second games against the team who not yet had a game that day and won both of those games and went on to beat North in the final. Great Effort by South U/14's players.

Thanks Yoda, that is half the answer, so I assume the clubs are then pegged to a zone, but isn;t the geography around adelaide a bit one sided, north south, not much east/west ?
As Yoda said, the 4 zones are simply based on where the clubs are located.
However, in the interests of fair representation, the federation will assign a club to a different zone to even up the numbers. The purpose of which is so that each zone has access to approximately the same amount of players in each age group.
I have found it works fairly well. As I recall, I don't believe any one zone has dominated the tournament year after year.
South U12 Girls also won their final - defeating North 1-0.
A good result for a very young and 'small' team, who lost 3-1 to north in their first game. Just goes to show how they pulled things together as a team during the week-end.
thanks Drusetta,
Seeing as I am getting good answers today, do they ever have a higher level comp v comp thing or do the E&D and Southern Districts clubs + Country leagues just do their own state thing,
There is a district state championships competition held every year which preresents the next level up for the district and country regions. 2006 was hosted by Mt Gambier over the June long weekend.
The federation state championships also include 1 regional team (made up of Riverland, Western Border, Eyre Peninsula, and Broken Hill players). The logistical problem is, the players only meet each for the first time on the Friday night before the tournament or just prio to their first match.
The age levels have also changed from year to year. Last year the federation state championships was held for U12-U15 boys and U13 and U15 girls. This year U11-U14 boys and U12, U14 and U16 girls.
The good thing is it's popularity. The challenge is finding a venue with enough room to accommodate it all. Thanks to Para Hills for offering up their venue. I can see this tournament getting too big for the one venue very soon.

I may be wrong, but I think that they just do their own version of the state championships.
I know Southern Districts used to be involved in such a competition until a couple of years ago.
Would be near impossible to have that comp and the FFSA comp teams play in a 'higher' level competition though - many of the players would end up in more than 1 team!!
i know the country do their own thing because that is how the girls team was selected for the country team in the under 16s for thegirls...the standout girls from the country zone champs were picked for the ffsa state champs
Given the quality in the districts, and that the purpose of the state championships is to identify talent; it would be nice if the state championships include the premium talent from the districts. Be it by selecting players or maybe the two finalist teams.
I think it would improve the competition and allow state selectors access to more talent at the one time, at the one venue. Which is the whole point of it all.
State teams for girls are selected from development squads - these are promoted through the clubs and the sawsa web-site.
Development squad trials are on now and for next couple of weeks.
Letters are handed to each coach after their last game by a State Coach representative. The coach then hands them onto the players.
However, each state coach has then option to contact a club, or a player at any time to invite them to attend trials or be part of their state development squad.
What happens to the players of the team that finish 5 th in their group as they are not represented on the final day of the finals? Do they miss out or perhaps contacted at a later date ?
As I said in my previous post - letters are handed to the coach after their last GAME. This could be on the Sunday or the Monday.
In addiiton for the country teams, there are regional coaches appointed who visit regional areas each year to assess regional talent and maybe offer invitations to trial.
myself and my team manager did not receive anything bout state trials during the zone champs...but id already had given all the girls the necessary info anyway
A rep from SAWSA was around during the weekend and I understand she got to as many coaches as she could.
That said, SAWSA sent an email to all clubs regarding the Development Squad trial info weeks ago.
And of course the info was on the SAWSA web-site.
I managed to watch a few of the girls games and was suitably impressed by the standard. There is a lot of footballing talent out there - boys and girls.
I sometimes look at the junior talent then look at Adelaide United performances and wonder what went wrong in between!?
Maybe Adel United should put some women in the team???
Some steps in the right direction are starting to be taken with the girls soccer.
The 'Young Sensation' squad will take the best players from accross all dev squad age groups for the girls, and I hope it will provide an extra dimension to junior development in womens soccer.
My daughter is certainly fired up about it, and would be really stoked if she manages to get into that squad.
I sometimes wonder if I should pull her back a bit and make her take a break - but she is just so motivated it would be near impossible...
I have been informed that the development squads (and the young sensation squad) once selected, will have a few weeks break to let the players recover from what has been a hectic schedule of late.
thats good to hear.
over the past couple of months, it has been a 7 day a week effort on many occasions, what with school, club, state and zone team commitments.
