Real Over 35s League

Was just wondering what all the clubs thought about putting to SAASL that a REAL OVER 35s ( Div 10 ) not to be called Div 10 but over 35s , to be set up for next year ! As this topic keeps coming up each year, nothing gets done, I think its time we look at it now for next year ! Would be great to have a true over 35s league ! If a Club cant field ALL OVER 35s then that team goes to Div 6,7,8,9 because those divs seem to always struggle for teams!! Lets do something now for next year, Whats your thoughts ????

I'm all for this and not because of Athelstone. They do have a few younger guys but they struggle against the experience of the older guys.

I think there is a case for a Real Over 35's league with maybe 1-2 players aged between 30-34 allowed to be named each week. We have guys in our team who are 50 and they dont want to be chasing some 18 year old kid around.

Get on it Gully Boyz. FOB got moved up a div because they were playing to many younger guys.

For sure...some good points there too Jay in regards the amount and age of a few possible additions but we are already talking about it for next year as we have a fair amount of guys both playing and not who would love to play in a league where you werent getting crushed buy some over zealous kid....that includes myself as ive had it with the serious stuff but would still like to have a kick with a bunch of guys more interested in playing the ball rather than the man

I reckon this topic has been kicked about a few times now and I reckon it is more about the spirit of things - personally I have no drama with a 32 year old playing - unless he can run like the wind and generally takes the piss then it becomes a problem. At our stage of life it is more about having a run before a beer and a laugh, more often than not at each other and with each other. More often than not you play against the same blokes ech year and have a good stoush on the pitch but always a hand shake and a laugh after wards with people I may other wise not have met - always good to catch up with the likes of Tim at TTG, Owen and Stevie at Celtic and the East and West boys, among others, and shows the rest of the leagues what a real fraternity the over 35s league is - and a tough one to win as well. Added to that I still find it a real honour to play alongside the champion blokes I turn out with each week.......

Thats why I suggested that we allow one or two who are aged between 30 and 34. We have a guy, Steve Paterson who is about 33 but has the body of a 60 year old. He is still a great player but doesn't have the pace like many other 33 year olds. He is suitable for the Oldies leauge.

I think maybe the league should be renamed, maybe to the Legends League and some criteria about eligbility put in place.

at vista half/3 quarters our old boys are a true 35's but not enough for a full team every week and the team is used to blood our younger players who need the expierience before moving up to the reserve, giving match time to players back from injury or a few younger lads that play for a,kick around that have no intention of playing higher... but according to what has been said most people would see a problem playing this team as it would have to many young fellas in it... they do no go around throwing tackles in and stuff like that, they know what the league is about...

can anyone from grove tell who your forward was on the wekend, think he was number 9, very skillfull and quick...

you noticed it too haha, just retired to the o/35's for a few weeks mr x, enjoying myself as well...

As has been mentioned it would be about having a good game, a laugh and a few beers afterwards ( or at half time). So what teams at the moment have 98% over 35s ?
And if this was to go ahead which teams can get together a full o/35s team ? This was what I was asked last year from the League, and now has asked me to call them back this time of the year to organise it for next year. No point getting it organised and have 4 or 5 clubs able to be available ! Would need at least 6 to 8 to start with would say??

Please Handyman not those guys, once a week is enough to see those lads. Still 1 has one leg to play on the other one is irish so should do too much harm !!

i can understand in ways that the stones say that there young boys just want to play,but again they need to be in a div that suits them.there are now 2 c team league;s.we have all played through the diff age groups and now we are classified oldies we dont really need to be chasing 20 yr old lads shadows.
it is a lil dissapointing when you see a club play most of there team well under 30,as our team and quite a few others have players over 50.anyway if the leauge can do anything to make it a true 35 comp it would be great,but again i highly dought they will or even want to.RANT OVER

Different setup really. They dont play as clubs as such. They Masters League hires the pitches, all in the city, and teams are just allocated a time and place each weekend. The idea of the SAASL +35s was to have the teams all strongly affiliated with a club playing on a home and away basis.

And yeah the league is predominantely +35s. However an allowance for underage players is there. With injuries and such its best just to try and get 11 players out to have a fair game. Again in the interest of the +35s comp those underage players should be at an equivalent level or pretty close to being 35 years old.

As a player in the FFSA comp...I can say that the league is a pretty good standard as is the standard of Referees...

Playing home or away doesn't bother me it's just about the gameand some fun...at times you struggle to get 11 and at others you have heaps of players and with the on/off rule for subs it makes playing easy.

I enjoy it because it's central for all ...you play at 9.30 or 11am and you know that all players are or should be 35+...

Making one competition for all would be good but whether clubs from North or South want to trek into the city weekly is another matter.

Just an update, I have contacted Bill B and he wasnt aware of Over35s teams having younger team players. So he agrees that some rules will go with the O/35s(Div 10 ) league next year.
Some points discussed was that
1/ If you play O35s then thats where you play, not eligible to play Cs Bs As. (who would want to anyway)
2/ Each team will have Maximum four 30 yo -34yo
3/ Any team that arrives on game day with any different to above, will be a forfiet.
4/ Will discuss calling the new Division "Legends League", "Over 35s" or something elase if we want to all agree or majority of.
5/ Any teams that struggle to meet the requirements can opt for another Division.

So it is on the agenda for next year ! Lets hope a few teams can get organised soon for next year !!

Just an update, I have contacted Bill B and he wasnt aware of Over35s teams having younger team players. So he agrees that some rules will go with the O/35s(Div 10 ) league next year.
Some points discussed was that
1/ If you play O35s then thats where you play, not eligible to play Cs Bs As. (who would want to anyway)

Not sure I like this rule suggestion too much, sometimes you need these older guys to make up team numbers on certain weekends.
Just stick with the age rules suggested.

I think you will find there are a vast number of guys myself included that would be keen to have purely over 35's and no young wipper snappers send them to the C's. Cant wait for making a comeback at 40 in 2010.

Ohhhh, so its you I have to whinge to Lefty! How do I get a job there, if it looks like rain theres no work, if it gets too close to the weekend theres no work, if its too cold theres no work ! Is the policy "it has to be 25 degrees and a bright sunny day before you turn up for work" ! They started in Febuary dont expect to be finished till August now, any positions for a Site Manager ??
