Proof that this tournament is nothing more than a kick around at the local park. I'm suprised they don't have jumpers for goal posts.

hahaha. Now now guys, let's not make excuses for Spain and Italy losing.

Im certainly not making excuses.

Italy were poor, that is fact, if anything it was a wake up call for the coach to realise that he cannot pick players on reputation.

I'm glad you aren't.

I just noticed a bit of "it's only the confeds cup" once people started getting knocked out.

I could only imagine the gloating if Italy or Spain had won it on the other hand.

I agree though... a very timely wake up call.

And why not, every supporter hopes their team wins, I on the other hand am a realist and that reality tells me that at this point in time, Italy need a revamp.

But they are tournament hardened country and it would be very unwise for any team to underestimate them next year.

Their Under 21's are in the semi and I think Lippi could do a lot lot worse than call up the Captain Marco Motta, Acquafresca, Balotelli, Marchisio and Giovinco for the World Cup if Italy Qualify. At the very least, if they do poorly, those guys will have had a tournament under their belts before 2014.

you can play the mickey mouse cup card all you like
the fact is Spain had a very strong team playing , it wasn't their reserves , if you can't get up for the game when you are playing for your country in a game that would lead to a showdown with Brazil then their is something wrong. No excuses, they were beaten fair and square.
Give the USA some credit, imagine if it had been Australia beating Spain, we would be going right off , that is what it is akin to.

Brazil will win it.

I know that is a big statement  but the reason that Italy and Spain are out is that they are current champions. This was a holiday for both of them, Brazil on the other hand have not won anything in a quite a long time ( for their standards ). They definitely had more to play for than the other 2.

With Spain and Italy bowing out it just means they will both be pumped to win the World Cup :(

I'm with scudetto... as a matter of fact, I'm sure both him and myself could of told the old guard of the Italian National Team is over.

I don't know why Lippi needed the confed cup to confirm this (assuming he has now realised). Santon didn't even get a run. This tournament was the perfect opportunity to blood these youngsters. Not half a team, just 2 or 3 here and there... instead we Toni leading the line against Brazil

Um, you'll find they are current champions too (as are all teams besides the host nation).

Never said they were not allcurrent champions apart from the host. I singled out those because they were favourites along with Brazil.

Probably the World Cup and Euro are a bit harder to win than most of the other confederations...............

mate, brazil won the 2002 world cup. There has been 1 world cup since that which they didnt really make an impact. What other major international trophies can you win? None, so as far as im concerned they have been fairly successful.
Any other Opinions?

Okay technically you didn't, but you did say brazil on the other hand haven't won anything for a long time, which implies that Spain and italy's win is more recent and that is wrong. Italy's win is older than Brazil's.

How did they qualify for this? Comnebol champions (which is the south american equivalant of Euro 2008).

Güiza has just made it 2-1. I'm glad someone has got a winner (if it stays this way). I don't think I could handle extra time.
