Used to prefer 2 nights Tuesday (lite) Thursday (good work out).
Not real keen on the Wednesday - Fridays, to many absentees on Fridays...

Flinders train 2 nights a week (tues-thurs). There are a core group of players that turn up both night but over 50% only train on one of the nights.

I've always said no team ever wins anything without getting their feet on a ball twice a week besides match day. No swimming, no gyms, no cross training, but football training.
Can anybody correct me? Anybody ever won a league or cup with just once a week training??

Yes - BOSA. Saturday Division 1 Champion and Challenge Cup Winner in 2005. Also runner up in the Cichanowski Shield, which it lost on penalties to Adelalde Villa. Trained once per week back then and still do.

Think Simmo has eased up a bit on this rule this year where as in the past he was a lot more strict with this.

fulham train Tues and Fri and barbie provided every Fri night after training.

If you dont train you dont play is a tough call.

It the fair thing to do, when 70% of the team are slogging it out during the week, they should be the ones to take the field. but when its a strong player i know we need on the park come sunday then i want them on because as a team we will perform better with them there. mixed feelings with this.

MSSC Blue Eagles train Wed and Fri - everyone has to train at least once to play (unless there are unavoidable circumstances), but plenty train on both nights.

I agree if its the First Team. But in the ressies it should be no train no play. Or at least start on the bench. IMO

"Get fit to play the game, Don't play the game to get fit" This is what I was told at a very young age and it has still stuck, as a result if I don't train my coach still knows I will be putting in extra hours elsewhere to keep fit. Having said that if I was a coach, there is no way I would have a no train no play policy.

I love a friday night training session. You've worked hard all week, you get home and spend some time with the wife and kids, go out and train then enjoy some beers with the boys and play some darts or poker. Brilliant!

As a Div 3 Sat team we train twice a week, Tues/Thurs, and the coach has a no train no play policy. However if you communicate with him that you can't make training for valid reasons, i.e. Uni exams, he doesn't count that against you and he is more focused on regular attendance and committment.

They key thing though is that the trainings are aimed at getting the players to know one another, maintain a level of fitness and work on aspects of the game we need to improve upon for the weekend so we can win them. Each week we add a facet to our game and are building ourselves and team so we can improve and keep on winning.

Once a week trainnig for teams like BOSA, who have a lot of quality players, or low level/social teams, i.e. C's, Div 5, etc is suitable but it really depends on what you are trying to achieve and also the facilities available top you. As a Div 3 team we want to earn promotion to Div 2 and we need to put in the hard yards to get ourselves there and it takes time.

If you train twice a week for 2 hours you usually spend the first 45 minutes or so of each session on warm-up/fitness work, then 45 minutes on drills, then 30 minutes on a game. That gives you 90 minutes of drills a week on which to have players work on things and then some game time to try and implement them in a game situation. In the scheme of things that isn't much and I'm pretty sure very few clubs get a full complement of players to each session so a lot of this work will need to be repeated so all players are aware and can practice the drills.

training fridays gives everyone a chance to get together and have a few bevvies, while the bar makes a killing. so good for team morale and cash flow for the club.

BUT, if for example you have paid all your fees, turn up EVERY training night, would you find it fair if somebody who doesn't make an effort to train gets a walk up start while you warm the bench?
I'd be pissed off.
