If I could send it to you I would, but I am not sure how to package together a life for express delivery.

At least he's trying, he's looked at the best and trying to emulate it. Just because he can't even spell the name correctly, shouldn't harm him chances.

I think that's the only time we've not had the bbq this season, and the bar was open. We just don't bother opening the little games against small clubs..

There's nothing about me that is thin.

You're a convict, not an aussie.

I just don't understand why pom is tolerated but nigger, wog and (even amazingly) bubble is apparently racist. If one is racist, so are they all.

it's true though, we don't. It's called economics. If the bbq is going to lose money and we don't have the personnel, why do something half hearted.

I presume the bbq will be going on saturday as we have adelaide uni AND vipers (i think) coming to town.

Depends on the context it is used in.....I am not a convict because I have a European background, hence me being an Aussie.

So therefore how would you define a small club, and why would you put Vipers in that bracket?

And once again, you are rubbishing your clubs image.

How do you lose money on a bar & BBQ?????

I think you should check your economics as the highlighted section baffles me.

BTW Hawkesy, OISC would've made a profit off the beers which were sold to us at $5 a bottle.

Simple economics.

well the bar was open, so that's irrelevant.

I'll keep it simple.

1 kg of sausages is bought for $8 and a loaf of bread for $2, and you sell 1 sausage at $2. You have just lost $8.

Costs = $8 + $2 = $10
turnover = $2
Profit = $2 - $10 = $8

and that's without the cleaning of utensils, onions, oil and gas being taken into the equation.

Simple economics really.

the bar was open, so we did make a profit on them. We just cut off the loss making arm.

I can guarantee that more than 1 sausage would've been sold, in fact i can guarantee that we would've sold you guys out if you only had 1 kg of sausages, and a tidy profit would've been made, because we always do our best to support other clubs bbq's and bars.

So therefore a profit would've been made.

So according to you, you made a profit on the bar from a little game against a 'small' club.

we are not mind readers so cannot accurately judge the demand levels (especially from clubs that have never played at Glenunga before). We take an educated guess judging by the club and how many teams we have at home and judge our supply levels based on that. It would appear that in this case, it might have been wrong.

Obviously, we'd have sold more than 1 sausage. I was just keeping it simple in terms of "how do you lose money at a bbq?"

Yes, one beer is a profit because you just put the beer back in the fridge for next time. However, food goes off.

Come on, this is basic stuff guys. I should charge for a business studies lecture.

4 Teams palying at say 14 players per team... That's 56 people...Plus the supporters that were there.

If you can't make money from that your sillier than I thought.

We play at home with A's & B's regularly and still manage to make a healthy profit, so I can't see what the issue is there.

However, volunteers may have been a bit short, which is OISC's call, but to get on here and say you don't bother opening up for little games against small clubs, just shows your arrogance and shows that you have NFI what you are on about.

Go ask some other teams and see what we spend, in particularly Salisbury Villa, they spend very well when they come down to us, and we make sure we do the same when we travel up there - not bad for A's and B's.

Not bad for a 'small' club either.

I could, but the club decided that they couldn't make enough.

That and the fact of having the club spread across 3 venues that day, meant volunteers were rare. Been to many grounds that have nothing, you should be grateful we had a bar.

then compare that to what we make when we have 5 teams at home it becomes chicken feed. Comparisons in scale, isn't it.

Offer a bloke on the dole a job for $20 an hour seeping the streets and he'll jump at it.

Offer a multi millionaire the same job and rate and he'll turn it down.

Offer some random slapper to a single bloke who's not had a shag for a month and he'll take it. Offer it to a happily married bloke and he'll turn it down.

And what makes you presume it is chicken feed to our takings?

As much as I enjoy the Hawkesy baiting, one of his first comments was that they didn't have the personnel because their teams were all over the place. Seems reasonable to me. Its just shows a lack of class to deliberately bait the guy with personal comments, then turn around and blame him when he reciprocates in kind. (Not naming names, but if the boot fits ...)
