young referees standard

Post by sgt peppers »

When are the FFSA going to implement proper training and development for the young referees that are officiating the junior football games.

I have come across several referees that are younger than the age group that are officating in and their inexperience in handling the game and authority comes through which is very frustrating.

I was at a U16 game yesterday where the young referee missed an obvious penalty and the players of the winners' team were time wasting in the last 5 minutes of the game and went unpunished. Not awarding the penalty when it was a clear cut penalty had cost the home team the game and perhaps a chance to win the league.

sgt peppers, your comments would suggest that you may be associated with the team that did not get the penalty awarded,

I too was at an U16 game yesterday, with a young referee, and saw a similar incident to the one you are referring to, only this time it was clearly 'NOT' a penalty, and the referee made the correct decision and let play continue.
Earlier he had given two yellow cards, one to each team, and they too were the correct decisions, although the home teams player's yellow could have easily been a red.
In the dying minutes of the game, the away teams keeper lost his footing due to the atrocious conditions of the pitch, and he tore his groin muscle.
The referee chatted him and threatened to book him if he did not either get substituted or get back to the game, again a good, well experienced decision from a young referee.

All in all, I would say that this young referee did a great job, and showed experience above his years.

Did any of the losing team miss a shot on goal during the game , or did the ref block them on the line ...

Was this the Blue Eagles game?

If so, i was there and i thought the ref did very well.

Sounds to me like sour grapes...

sgt peppers- what penalty and when?
and im guessing you're affiliated somewhat with ABE? in what way?
also im 16 but could probably get away with being 14 or less.
Dude don't take it so personally.

I'm not telling anyone how to suck eggs but this is close to my heart at the moment!!!

This forum is basicly about opinions and people expressing them, sometimes people throw things out on this forum for bait or a bit of light humour. Sometimes for interest and debate and at one time or another someone or something gets bagged by someone...who cares???

Really as long as no-one is naming names and threatening people or abusing them...lighten up, people will have an opinion on everything and if you can't handle people with opinions honestly just stand on the side lines and do nothing!!!! really don't come on a forum if you can't handle opinions for **** sake!!

Everyone including Ref's, players, coaches, parents, clubs, etc etc etc make mistakes. !!!

sgt peppers are you the guy that complained about the young referee and one sided linesman when Blue Eagles U16 lost to Adelaide Hills? I thought the ref at the blue eagles vs para hills u16 game did ok! my only complaint was that he should have given a couple more yellow cards to the blue eagles. eg when eagles striker ran in and kicked para keeper after he had caught the ball, and when para player was hit in the face in last couple of minutes of the game.

You are a joke mate.

i'm not sayin blue eagles were perfect but be reasonable,

2 para players just happened to get injuries in the last 5-10 minutes when Blue Eagles had most o f the possesion.

Blue Eagles player was clearly tripped in the box and somehow it ended up being a goal kick.

I have played in two games this year where the ref was younger than us (15-16). I think they both did a great job and knew the laws of the game well. They both let the game flow and didn't give a lot of stupid free kicks, they gave the obvious fouls but let some play go. The only bad thing was that they were both reluctant to give out cards but overall did well.

I believe younger refs are sometimes better than more experienced refs because most of them still play and understand that giving away stupid free kicks can slow the game down (they are smarter with their decisions). They also use common sense, if players swear in frustration they let it go.

You thought it was a penalty, I didnt and neither did the referee. Weve had plenty of decisions go against us so far this year, and therell be plenty more before the end of the season. Theres still 13 games to go and nobody has won or lost the league yet.
