I asked a relevant question if anyone had been and what the crowds were like. I had heard through the grape vine that the numbers were way down on what they usually are. END OF STORY.

Why do some of you boneheads have to take every topic and turn it into an "us vs them" issue.

No wonder we can't unify the sport in this state.
So - You were just trying to highlight a negative then - now why would you do that? Im sure there could have been many positives you could have asked about?

quote from TB's earlier post -Can anyone tell me what the crowds were like?

I heard the traders were dead and very disappointed.

At last some indication of who won what from the Border Watch

Under 11 winners – North West; Runner up – Noarlunga
Under 12 winners – North West; runner up – Riverland
Under 13 winner – Port Pirie; runner up – North West
Under 14 winners – Port Pirie; runner up – Noarlunga
Under 15 winner – Western Border; runner up -Riverland;
Under 16 winner – Noarlunga; runner up – Western Border.
Under 13 girls winner – North West; runner up – Western Border
Under 16 girls winner – Adelaide Hills; runner up – North West

(North West don't have teams in the U14-U16 Boys)

No mention of attendance, but weather no doubt would have had an effect. The fact is that the attendance is what it is and is largely generated by the number of players at the comp - as someone pointed out already its basically equal to players+parents+siblings.

It's bleedin' obvious that numbers were likely to have been down on 2006, when it was last held in Mt Gambier, as E & D teams were not participating this time.

You guys are too busy looking over your shoulder all the time and can't see the trees for the forest.

GM, you're on to something. From Borderwatch,
"The South Australian Primary Schools Sporting Association soccer carnival is under way at Blue Lake Sports Park.
Conditions are cool and damp for the opening day of the tournament. About 700 players and officials are taking part and most of the motels in Mount Gambier are booked out."

They got the competition name wrong but at least they reported on it and didn't inflate the figures.

Have any of you Einsteins worked out which association was conspicuous by absence? (other than E&D and Southern before you all start getting on your high horse again)

These are the things I am trying to find out, I am not mudraking as you all think.

for the record the earlier quote of 1200 was from the Adelaide United site ( as they were involved with players with this event) if the 1200 figure is incorrect the finger should be point at them and no one else - so they may have problems counting heads, big deal - the bottom line there was a lot involved

You assume the figures were inflated instead of just Adelaide united just making a mistake? interesting the angle you always look for

Well there is 10 Junior associations that are under the FFSA banner and 3 appeared as if they didnt particpate as they didnt have any teams listed to play and they are the Broken Hill, Port Lincoln and Port Augusta Junior soccer association so?

These are the things I am trying to find out, I am not mudraking as you all think.

but why are you trying to find out- from your so negative FFSA posts in the past you cant blame people for wondering surely

Rodney,
Finally some sense.

"for the record the earlier quote of 1200 was from the Adelaide United site ( as they were involved with players with this event) if the 1200 figure is incorrect the finger should be point at them and no one else - so they may have problems counting heads, big deal - the bottom line there was a lot involved"

I wasn't pointing the finger at any one, just making a point that those figures could not possibly be correct and after all you posted that in response to my question without doing the maths.
Big deal, maybe not but terribly inaccurate and not the true answer I was looking for.

"Well there is 10 Junior associations that are under the FFSA banner and 3 appeared as if they didnt particpate as they didnt have any teams listed to play and they are the Broken Hill, Port Lincoln and Port Augusta Junior soccer association so?"
Well done! Broken Hill was the surprise omission.

"but why are you trying to find out- from your so negative FFSA posts in the past you cant blame people for wondering surely"
You're probably right but I do have a foot in both camps. (sound familiar?)

Now in all honesty, my question is:
Is the interest in these type of events waning and why?

I would be interested in some thoughts from all of you.
This has been a topic for discussion over the years and there is a definite drop off in support. (forget E&D)

-Are the costs becoming prohibitive? (especially in the current economic climate)
-Is the June long weekend an appropriate time?
-Is it losing it's "prestige" among the players?
-Is the extra commitment or time constraints on players, parents and coaches an issue?

You can't see the connection?

I am obviously wasting my time.

HOW ELSE CAN YOU TELL IF INTEREST OR SUPPORT IS WANING.

(If I was you I could believe press releases.)

WTF?

maybe next time if you dont make these sort of comments it might help

I heard the traders were dead and very disappointed.

and yes I can see the connection, maybe it will be helpfull next time to elaborate a bit more on your question at the start or even at an earlier stage.

and yes we do seem to be getting no where

maybe if you are that interested next year you could actually attend the event and witness the issues you worry about first hand

I'll throw a couple of questions up for debate?

Is this the actual FFSA's State Junior Championships [if such an event really does occur] or was it just an opportunity for the SAJSA members to have their annual mid-season event?

Secondly is there a real State Junior Championship, where the best junior players in the State play off against each other in various age groups?

It is the traditional SAJSA State Championships which ironically consisted of all the non-FFSA junior associations.

FFSA have of recent years held State Talent Identification Championships for their players on the October long weekend.

FFSA are also now holding a country comp which consists primarily of the same associations that just competed last weekend minus Noarlunga.

There is no true State Championship for all players, never has been abd I can't see it happening in he near future.

My Son was in the Under 12's team that also went undefeated, again conceding only 3 goals.

Very well run event, it was our 1st time to be involved as we have been here less than 1 year.

1200 children would not be an unreasonable estimate of numbers.

Weather will have damaged the business of the traders, as when not playing or watching, most went back to their campsites to get dry/warm.

Mt Gambia's Fast-food joints were doing brisk business though, as people went for a warm and get dry.

Trials were before xmas, and the kids have to be in schools competition run by North West, which is effectively the western suburbs of the city.

Pity about Elizabeth not attending this year, as a new-comer I don't pretend to understand all of the history/politics, but I have to admit that I believe that all associations should be members of a single umbrella organisation (i.e. the FFSA), which is how things are in the UK. (apologies if this is an over-simplistic view)

Which of the associations that competed are not affliliated ? As far as I am aware they all are...

i guess numbers were down coz of the edjsa missing and for those teams who were " undefeated" i guess no real competition from edjsa ment a field day .. not that its your fault either .. just a shame the full spectrum of players were missed

from what i can see it was tough still ... hopefully next year edjda will be in

also i heard that ffsa that the other districts voted not to invite the edjsa thats why they missed out .. ? anyone know if this true..

Poor wording by me. I was talking in past tense.

I should have said that it was the original SAJSA championships which ironically used to consist of the non-FFSA junior associations.
