Post by tickets4cheese »

if a team forfeits in a cup round whould they be replaced for that round by the team they knocked out in the previous round providing that club is willing to take their place?

any team to forfeits a cup round should be fined. And no, they should not be replaced.

Why :?:

If your club has injuries & cannot proceed to the next level then why should they be fined :?:

Nobody knows who & when someone will be injured. :?

The team that goes through the comp undefeated is the cup winner. No team that has lost should be given a second chance.

If you enter the comp (which is by default for most teams) then you play no matter what. If your team is going to get smashed in a league game would you forfeit that too and expect no punishment from the league? I think not...

True, but if you dont have 11 men then how can you?

A question, was your team eliminated only to have the side who beat you forfeit?

Im sure your club would love to be fined for not fielding your available 9 men for a measly Cup round, when the following week you would have a few great players back & be playing for promotion!

SAASL stands for South Australian Amateur Soccer League - key word; "Amateur"

If this was a semi-pro comp then maybe I'd agree with you.

I agree that should be enforced for A's.
But it gets messy with cup tied players for B's.

And you didnt answer my question about WHY a club should be fined for forfeiting a Cup game?

I smell sour grapes.....

@ The Kop,

All well & good but if players are Cup tied, how can the league fine a team for forfeiting the A Grade when the league itself will not let you fill the spots with cup tied players :?:

You can fill the places with B Grade players so no excuse about forfeiting A Games - although I believe if you do your B Grade automatically forfeits, but certainly no to replacing a team

ELIGIBILITY OF PLAYERS

(a) Players taking part in the competition shall be properly registered with the League.
(b) Players competing in the Semi-Final and the Final rounds shall be registered with the club concerned before the last cup round preceding the Semi-Final.
(c) Any player who has competed in a cup round fixture with a team of one club shall not be eligible to play for a team of another club in either of the cup competitions for any of the remaining rounds of the cup competition during that season.
(d) Any player having played in a Challenge Cup round shall not be eligible to play in any subsequent Reserve Cup round during that season.
(e) “Played” shall mean that his name has been entered on the team sheets. The only exception being that of the named reserve goal keeper. Providing he does not enter the field of play he will still be eligible to play in either competition, i.e. Reserve Cup or Challenge Cup.
(f) Any club fielding an ineligible player shall forfeit the match concerned and shall be fined in accordance with the League’s standard scale

Note (d) So therefore a B grade player is not cup tied where-as the A's are? Can somebody confirm?

Correct.. Players who are listed on the team sheet in the first team comp are tied to that comp. Reserves can play in either side but once listed on the team sheet for the first's they can not drop back to reserves in later rounds.

Oh, and to the earlier comment... Nope, my club is still in both cups and we hope to go a long way with both sides.

If the A's forfeit, then B's automatically forfeit as well - it stops team 'stacking' a B's side.

As for fines, I believe a club should be fined if they do not forfeit by a certain time... for example, by 7pm Friday night. There is nothing worse than arriving at a game, only for the other team to forfeit!

I think that would be a fair rule. Surely most clubs will know prior to that time if they do not have enough players to fill their side.

the reason why i suggest the idea of the team that was previously eliminated by a team that forfeits taking their place is purely because at the end of the day we all play because we love playing and i hate missing a game due to a team forfeiting, at least if the eliminated team takes there place we still get to play. after all as stated it is amateurs.

Game can start with seven players. Surely you don't have injuries to the extent you can't field seven players.

If they hadn't beaten our Cs on penalties then we would have definitely fulfilled the fixture against you!

What's funny about the death of people

I too as an LFC fan despise ManU but by making jibes about Munich is inviting a comeback about Hillsbororugh & Heysel

Shankly's famous quote (Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that) which has since been taken out of context in the way it was said and it's meaning.

I don't think it was supposed to be a joke, but I agree with his sentiments... unless something extraordinary happens (like that example) clubs ought to have the courtesy to their opposition to play the game.

Turn it up! Who's going to start a game with only 7 players! Waste of time for everybody involved!

team that previously lost. to replace the team they played when they forfeit the next round..
that is just plain stupid..
cup rounds..your out - your out no comeback..

so say a div 2 side does well and beats a div 1 side only to forfeit next round and that div 1 side get to the final and win, opens a huge can of worms and a very sour defeat for the team who lost the final...

in amateurs any side would say thanks for forfeiting and giving us the rest..and the team that lost to them earlier good luck next year..
