District Carnival in Mount Gambier
Congrats to the organisers. A well run tournament despite the dodgy weather.
I must confess my enjoyment was enhanced by the North West U 11 going undefeated and not conceeding even one goal! (Did I mention my son was the Keeper?)
But seriously a job well done, games were on time, information was clear, a very well run carnival.

Re: District Carnival in Mount Gambier
The North West squads are selected from those kids that play school soccer in the metro area on Saturday mornings as part of the North West Junior Soccer Association competition.
I'm no expert but it needs to be remembered that this used to be organised by SAJSA (still is I presume) and previously was not an FFSA event. The teams this year came from
NOARLUNGA
WESTERN BORDER
NORTH WEST
WESTERN BORDER
ADELAIDE HILLS
PORT PIRIE
WHYALLA
You can see there's a fair deal of country bias.
Be nice to see some more results.

Trials were held late last year for the best kids from the School competition. Trials went over several weeks gradually reducing the numbers reality TV style. I heard trials were being held and asked if I could take my son. They were very "open" trials anyone could go.pass and move wrote:Luke Chant can you explain how teams were picked and from where??? If you are interested for your kid (s) just watch http://www.nwjsa.org.au towards the end of the year. I am sure it will be listed.

I think North West won a lot of it. They were certainly on top of most of the tables going into the last day.Green_Manalishi wrote:The North West squads are selected from those kids that play school soccer in the metro area on Saturday mornings as part of the North West Junior Soccer Association competition.

Re: District Carnival in Mount Gambier
Having said what I did about the carnival I will point out one truely awful referee decision. It is so bad you had to laugh.
As I said my son was the keeper. They were 2 0 up in this game and the ball rolled to him outside the box (not a back pass) . So he dribbled it back to the box and stood there waiting for the attacker to come close before he picked up (perfectly legal time wasting when you are 2 0 up)
The ref blew his whistle for a free kick which I assumed was for time wasting, however he thought what my son did was illegal for reason other than time wasting. As I was the linesmen I gently
discussed with him that his decision was wrong. To his credit he reversed it, but an unbelieved lack of understanding of the rules.
Anyway rant over.

Can anyone tell me what the crowds were like?
I heard the traders were dead and very disappointed.

Reds a success at State ChampionshipsTuesday, 9 June 2009
Adelaide United FC's Scott Jamieson, Eugene Galekovic and Michael Marrone returned to Adelaide after spending the weekend in Mount Gambier for the State Championships.
The trio were at Blue Lake Sports Park in South Australia’s south east to help promote the game and the upcoming Hyundai A-League season, giving aspiring young players from around the State the chance to get up close to three of Adelaide United’s stars.
The championships, which were held for Under 13 and Under 16 girls plus Under 11-16 boys, saw over 1,200 kids from across SA take part. The visit was the second time Adelaide United has had representation from players in the regional centre following the club’s Pre-Season Cup match against Perth Glory at Vansittart Park last year.
“It was great having the chance to go back to Mount Gambier, we really enjoyed it the last time we were there,” Jamieson said.
“It was good to check out some of the local football talent and there were a number of players we saw that I’m sure have the potential to one day play in a reds shirt, whether it’s the A-League or the W-League.”
“All of the kids looked like they really enjoyed themselves and hopefully we were able to add to the experience of the weekend for the participants and their families.”
The Reds trio happily signed autographs and posed for photos with young fans, while they also talked about their experiences and memories of playing in junior State championships and the role it played in helping them reach the level they are at now.
Adelaide United would like to acknowledge Football Federation South Australia (FFSA) and the Western Border Soccer Association for their assistance and support during the visit.

Rodney,
I wanted to hear from someone that was there - not triped up propoganda, so if you were there, tell me what you thought of the crowds.
So, let me get this right.
For your info: over "1200 Kids" (I assume they mean children - not goats) is at least 80 teams.
80 teams divided by the seven associations attended is 11.42 teams per association.
Age groups represented, 13 Girls, 16 Girls & 11-16 Boys = 8 age groups.
If each association was represented in each age group (highly unlikely and never happened before), that would be a total of 56 teams or 840 children. :? :? :? :? :?
p.s the children played on the weekend, the weather was great, had a great time and there were no politics![Exclamation :!:](./images/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif)

maybe they had a lot of SSF games going on also?
but yes 1200 does seem a lot.
oh and no politics in sport that would be a first![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

1200 could still be correct. Almost every kid in my sons team had brothers and sisters there too. I had my 3 daughters with us.The Boss wrote:Rodney,

The weather was terrible it rained all weekend so I think that would have kept a lot of families away or at the hotel.
Re: District Carnival in Mount Gambier
LC, the point I was making is that the press release states, "The championships, which were held for Under 13 and Under 16 girls plus Under 11-16 boys, saw over 1,200 kids from across SA take part."Luke Chant wrote:

I can understand 1200 people being there but not 1200 children taking part.

TB how many participated in the E&D carnival over the week end - who did the E&D zone teams play and maybe some results and which teams did well - Im sure people are more interest in these types of information rather than the weather and politics? The Boss wrote:

I do believe this topic is "District Carnival in Mount Gambier"
I asked a relevant question if anyone had been and what the crowds were like. I had heard through the grape vine that the numbers were way down on what they usually are. END OF STORY.
Why do some of you boneheads have to take every topic and turn it into an "us vs them" issue.
No wonder we can't unify the sport in this state.

You're the one that straight away brought the E&D weekend into it which has nothing at all to do with this topic or any of the questions or comments posted.
