Amatuer rep team
Do they still have an Amateur representative team that competes with other states. I remember there used to be and SA used to do well
Re: Amatuer rep team
The most recent SAASL State Select teams were in 2007, I haven't heard any noise about a 2009 Select.

Re: Amatuer rep team
Seem like the same players get selected year in, year out. Who selects the team and how is the selection process carried out?
Do the selectors look at the lower divisions aswell for potential state players? Besides, we are all amatuers and there are many good players playing in divisions that you would not expect that would be up for State team selection. We have easily 2 or 3 young players in our squad that could walk into a Premier or Super league club that simply want to play with their mates??? Knowing a few of those faces in the state team picture, these players at our club could walk into that team as I bet there are many players from other clubs that could do the same..
Just interested in how the association goes about picking their squad.

That's why I believe an age select team is a good idea.
Also, around 1984 I remember there were some select teams from each division.
I remember being selected for the Division 2 side along with Jimmy Mitchell and Florinas goalkeeper with Joe McGregor as coach.

Re: Amatuer rep team
anyone care to produce a list of players they think should be in it like maybe your own amateur dream team squad of 15
Its close to midnight something evil's lurkin in the dark
Re: Amatuer rep team
I can tell u 1 thing - if a state amateur team ever got put together again and Eric Norman and Gary Collis were in charge again it would be a fu**ken joke.
After there performance at Pontians earlier this year it should show the people at League Headquarters that there time has passed and someone new would need to come in and take the reins.

I spose if it was gonna be we woulda heard somethin by now. It was a good concept maybe some-one should float the idea of select Saturday 1st div team play select Sunday 1st div team and then go down the divisions maybe. The idea would be different to the cup as there would be selected teams.

Re: Amatuer rep team
I asked at the SAASL HQ yesterday they said that they tried to put a rep team together but had no-one interested to play. Thats a bit of a pity becos it is a great concept that could have been played at the end of the season. I spose that being amatuers every body has busy lives and have not much to gain by going interstate to play soccer. Just something to think about tho

Re: Amatuer rep team
I heard that the FFSA would be putting together an 'amateur' state team. The team would comprise of people from the collegiate league, Riverland, Western Border etc. What a top team that would be!
Re: Amatuer rep team
if interstate amateur assoc. are aligned with their local federations would saasl be frozen out of playing against these associations hence the ffsa putting in their crappy amateur versions? could be interesting scorelines!

Salisbury V Elizabeth
Salisbury Florina, Salisbury Inter, Salisbury Villa V Elizabeth Downs, Elizabeth Vale, Elizabeth Grove.
Never going to happen but just a thought.

Re: Amatuer rep team
I think it would have to be held after the season or at the start of the A league games as all the usual reasons for these sort of formats will arise such as clubs would not want players getting injured during the season proper as I said just something to think about

Re: Amatuer rep team
That guy two in form the right is the best player in that team. An absolute champion. Guided Adelaide Villa to their inaugural Sunday div one championship a couple of years back. The guy to the left of him is a fair player also...
Re: Amatuer rep team
The only way this concept can come back is if the clubs lobby the saasl to spark some interest in interstate competitions. A well timed game would add extra finese to our football year as it has in other years and show, to the rest of SA football community the quality of some of our players
