The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
Any mutterings around the place on what is going to / likely to /wanted to happen with any of these women's comps.
If the W-League is gone I hope the FFA steps in to ensure that a NAtional Comp. occurs. This needs to be sorted out NOW. Its almost June.

The team is already training isn't it? Although players are not gonna be named for a while. Is there any trial game coming soon?
Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?

Yeah, it's normal that they go to watch those players. I guess there will be many Metro girls in the United team.
What's the squad like at the moment? Who's in and Who's out? I heard that some good players will probably not play even if MB wants them... Just rumours tho!

Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
Easy Tiger, prob right about Metro however, there are good players playing right across the league not just prems who have been just under the radar and woudl be a good addition.
As for your last point about maybe not wanting to play? That's just indicative of the person and the whole women's scene.
I think the coach and scouts ought to look beyond the obvious and not just focus on city, fulham or metro.
In the past, a "high level" coach spent a lot of time watching a certain team that (for whatever reason ) skewed some selections. This put many good players from the outer regions (incl. country) not being given a fair go.

I agree with Billy! Many players to choose from in many teams not just the obvious ones!
If some don't wanna play for whatever reason there will be someone else!
So, who's been training so far a part from the whole Metro 3pm team? I'm sure there are many girls that would love an opportunity to play at that level if they were called up!

The harsh reality is (sorry if i step on any toes) adelaide does not have the depth of players to mix it with the eastern states. Getting players from the premier league is just going to cement us last place again!
Again just my opinion.

Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
Shorty is right. Did I think and write that. LOL
IMO, those who show skill, fitness, work ethic for long periods in a game along with a team orientated attitude will get noticed no matter whether they are from a lower side or a top side.
So now is the time for all to play their butts off.

From Adelaide United website:
Katrina Bexis, Thomai Keizos and Ebony Weidenbach have been signed by Barnett. Things start to move finally
W-League squad taking shape
Adelaide United’s Women’s Team for season two of the Westfield W-League is starting to come together after the announcement of three new signings and a number of re-signings.
Lady Reds Coach Mike Barnett has welcomed Katerina Bexis and Thomai Kezios into the squad for the 2009/10 season, the pair from Adelaide Olympic expected to strengthen The Reds at both ends of the park.
Kezios comes as a highly regarded defender while Bexis is showing signs at club level that she could be a real force in attack.
“Kat (Bexis) plays a main striker who has a lethal shot and holds the ball up well,” Barnett said.
“She will cause headaches for defenders with her physical presence and based on her current club form, we have high hopes that she could be amongst the W-League’s leading scorers.”
Having conceded the most goals of any side last season, Barnett is looking to sure up United’s defence and he believes Kezios’ addition is a significant move in achieving this.
“Thomai (Kezios) has fantastic composure and awareness and is set to lead our defence this year,” Barnett said.
“If she puts in the hard work she has the potential to become a future Matilda.”
Ebony Weidenbach, who is the sister of Reds Youth player Scott Weidenbach and has been part of the SASI program, was a train on player with the United’s Women’s Team last season and has also been rewarded with a contract.
“Ebony narrowly missed last year’s selection, but this year she has shown maturity and raised her level,” Barnett said of Weidenbach.
“She is a great passer of the ball, is very good in the air and will be strong in our defensive line this season.”
Adelaide United has also confirmed that Donna Cockayne, Laura Chilvers and Racheal Quigley have all re-signed after being part of The Lady Reds’ inaugural squad last season.
The fixtures and dates for the upcoming Westfield W-League Season are still to be released.
Are they the only one sure players so far? :?

Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
Well done new signings. excellent effort and reward.
If Katrina has the right people around her (there for the team and not for THEMSELVES) she will become an excellent partner for Scalzi (if she is playing).
Well done to the consitent Kezios and Ebony. Seems like a change of scenery has assisted both players. Good strike rate for Olympic!!!!
Hopefully there are a few more changes to last year's squad.

Not 100% sure but heard Scalzi is not in the squad. Don't know why, but she hasn't been out and she's not injured. She was last year's best player IMO and one of the best in SA.billy the kid wrote:Well done new signings. excellent effort and reward.

mclaren will not be playing for adelaide this season, but will definitely be playing for another w-league club.
which club is yet undecided.

Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
Why don't these players want to play for Adelaide? Is it confidence in the coach/squad? Motivation? What else?
What would it take to make them change their mind?
I think there are good players here, but those 3 (Scalzi, McLaren, Wirkus) are already among the best...not easy to replace ppl like them IMO. I know that Adelaide should have players that actually want to play, but what's done to encourage these ones? It seems like there's something that doesn't work in the whole thing if top players say "no" (it already happened last year if I remember correctly) to the WLeague...

I personally think good on them. We know they're among the best here, but the best here and the best in say NSW or QLD are fairly different standards.
If these girls are good enough, which they are, to make one of the W league teams in another state then i think its an awesome opportunity. Not only will they potentially get more experience in a new environment, it opens up the pathway for more girls here to be able to have a shot at playing for our W league team.

Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
from what i would guess
mclaren, wanting to take her matildas chances seriously, would want to be playing football every week, like she should be.
emma would be exactly the same; its no good playing 4 or 5 games when their matildas opposition are playing every week.
adlutd probably had their chance to do this, and they didnt, so why would either of them want to stay, when they can defo get the number one spot elsewhere?...
just what i would guess anyway

Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
So basically it's down to not playing because they think the coaching is not the best for them...? Not that it's bad coaching maybe but the way decisions are made in the club don't encourage them to play for AdlUtd, for example knowing they have the chance to play every week? Obviously if they can get better results somewhere else they should go I guess. Funny tho that with 2 Matildas GK Adelaide is left without either one. No offence to who will play in their place of course.
You're right c'ling, but only if local players will actually get a chance instead of getting imports! Last years idea of bringing in other players was a joke, everybody laughed in the end except the coaches when many local players were not even considered. I hope things will be very different this time._changeling_ wrote:I personally think good on them. Re: The W-Leage / WNSL / or Whatever?
yeah but we just dont have the standard here. If we were to field a team purely from adelaide players we'd get hammered every game.
i mean, we have standout players in our premier league, but the premier league standard just isnt always good enough. we need imports to strengthen our adelaide team, its inevitable. its always said on here that we're way behind the eastern states, the w league just proves that.
