WEST ADELAIDE HEAD TO MUPC AUSTRALIAN FINALS

West Adelaide Football Club this weekend heads to the Australian Finals of the Manchester United Premier Cup to be played at the Veneto Club, Melbourne.

The winner of the Australian Finals will meet the winner of the New Zealand Finals in a Pacific Final. The winner of the Pacific Final will head to Manchester, England to take on clubs from around the world in the MUPC World Finals in August.

Man Utd Premier Cup - Results - April 20, 2009

On Friday, Saturday & Sunday Nike held the Manchester United Premier Cup Australian qualifying football tournament for U/15 boys at the Bulleen Veneto Club in Melbourne.

It was excellent weather in Melbourne for some brilliant football on a near perfect playing surface for the boys from Marconi Stallions (NSW), Souths United (QLD), Hunter Valley (NNSW) , Brimbank Stallions (VIC) and West Adelaide (SA).

In the end only one team can go through to represent Australia in the pacific final against the New Zealand champion. The 2 teams to stand out over the 3 days were our finalists Marconi Stallions and Brimbank Stallions. The stage we thought was set for a very competitive final with both teams displaying some excellent skills with fast attacking play in the earlier preliminary games.

In the final Marconi were up for the game attacking from the start never letting Brimbank settle into the game. Marconi dominated the game totally scoring 2 early goals and displaying excellent passing and movement off the ball. On the day Brimbank just couldn’t compete with Marconi and found it hard to get its passing game going due to Marconi’s excellent pressure keeping Brimbank pinned in its own half for most of the game. Brimbank did get the odd chance and could possibly have had a penalty but luck was not on Brimbanks side. Marconi became worthy champions winning by 5 goals to nil which was an outstanding result for all the Marconi boys and support staff.


Pacific Final Australia v New Zealand

The winning team Marconi Stallions from Sydney NSW gave a superb effort over the 3 days to win the competition. Marconi Stallions FC will represent Australia in the Pacific Final to be played in Sydney against Waitakere City FC in May. The date is still to be confirmed by Nike with Marconi Stallions FC, Football NSW, Waitakere City FC and Football NZ

Regardless of the results, West Adelaide did a great job in actually getting to the Finals. Their results in the local Man Utd Cup were better than anybody elses so I don't suggest they deserve any criticism from anyone. I am sure the boys represented SA the way they should and their results show they did not disgrace us.
As an opposing Coach, I only wish we had been there for the experience alone. Congrats again boys.

5th place is still last place with out a point and 10 goals against them and 1 for and your proud of that and if they did put up a fight and played with their hearts then it still wasnt good enough which goes to show just how far behind south australia are from developing their youth

Actually i am proud of the lads even if they didnt win in Melbourne, they are still the champs of S.A. No one cares what competition u play, but dont go slagging these lads because they still made it further than ur team.
