campbelltown beating fulham
para hills only having four goals against so far
city beating sturt
olympic drawing with city

i know i know. only two games in. but totally different results from what you would expect. it looks like a sign for a more competitive league. of course. like i said. 2 games in. could go any which way and make my post completely irrelevant

YES.

Para Hills and Campbelltown are doing better and that's good. Metro have had an influx of Good Players.

Metro are the strongest team and will probably win the league. I don't see any team (on papers) that can finish ahead of them. But it's not because of that that the comp is not interesting.

Olympic have recruited those two or three players that made them competitive against every team. Cumberland have many young SASI players and that is a strength for sure!! I wouldn't be surprised if they finish quite high up actually. Also Para Hills and C'town will be though opposition for everybody, and the more they play the better they become. Look at C'town beating Fulham...if that's not impressive so what is it??? Sturt have their seasoned stars (ppl like Blacky and Jess may be seasoned yet they're always awesome) and can beat any team on any day. Fulham and City are always strong, so why not this time around? Maybe loosing some players is not all bad, they can re-build and bounce back.

So the good story is that despite all the fuss the girls are still out there playing and if some leave the game some others replace them. There will be more games at Santos and hopefully the level of the competition will keep rising. Tbh I don't think that the comp today is any worse than last year or a few years ago. I think it's getting better and better every year.

Just my thought.

metro certainly seem like the best team on paper. doesn't necessarily mean they're a shoe in to win the league.

who said fulham and city aren't strong? city beat sturt three nil. and fulham have won the league how many times now girls? just because they lost to campbelltown, doesn't mean they're not strong. and there only other game was against, metro, who consensus is, are the best team on paper.

i spoke to a few metro girls and the first thing they said when they heard we lost to c'town was...

"dont worry we lost to them last year"

for everyone to keep saying that fulham lost - gives c'town no credit... so well done c'town although im still livid we lost hahaha

hmm, shorty's got a point. most posts are focusing on the surprise of fulham losing instead of about campbelltown winning.

how was that game anyways shorty?

Glass Half full or Glass Half Empty situation. Given this is a Good News thread here goes.

Give Campbelltown some credit? For sure. well done.

However, looking at fulham's list and level of experience and their ability to attract and retain top players and a pretty good coach, losing to Campbelltown is probably not a good outcome nor expected. I challenge otherwise.

I think City, Cumby and fulham have problems with their lists and this will be reflected in the results. More losses to come for two out of the three I'm afraid.

Fulham were missing 5 regular first team starters. I know thats no excuse but when u take that out of any team u will notice a difference in the way the team plays

cumby are an even younger team this year than they were last year. with the loss of gretski and the twins and lilly. is caitlin playing for them this year? their prems keeper being injured at the moment. and their star midfielder moved off to the states (joke). they've had to regroup. without an influx of players coming into the club, they've brought up girls from reserves and under 17's, who had they kept their players, might not have come up to prems for a few years yet. their oldest players, not including their current stand in keeper, are only around 20 years old. so without the experience, losing key players from last years team, and a new coach..you'd expect them to struggle a bit this year. but looking at it from the perspective of how many young sasi players they have, if they continue to build on what they have this year, if they manage to possibly keep a coach for more than a year, they'll hopefully manage to regroup and start really challenging for top places in the next few years.

campbelltown, should benefit under robs coaching, and if they have a young and new team then they also should hopefully pick it up with the next few years.

para hills have improved every year ive been part of the league. and will most probably continue to do so.

olympic should benefit under dave's coaching, and with the intake of nadia and temai thats a great asset to them, along with their regular key players.

if the league was left to settle and players stopped flocking to one club, and we were evenly spread out throughout the state, the league could really pick up and improve in the next 5 years or so. but as players we just want to play, and preferably with a good team and also with our mates. so we wouldnt be prepared to move clubs and spread ourselves around the state for the good of the league, if it meant leaving a good team and our friends, if it meant leaving where we've been for years, especially if say you had to move from sturt, to para hills or something equivalent.

however with the improvement of the 'lower' clubs, things could improve over the next few years anyway

I agree with gubs...take 5 starters from any team (including Metro maybe?) and they will suffer against anybody.

why not its both top level..? just because i was questioning ur opinion!
Anyway why dont you ask why players leave clubs??
I moved from adelaide city to elizabeth vale when i moved out to the country..
and then i moved back even though it meant driving futher..
so there must be a good reason people are at the clubs they are.

could be they didnt think the club would have a second team or for clubs like cambelltown, parahills etc the reserves (div 3) may have left as they dont want to play div 3 so they moved to a div 1 or 2 club people have study commitments so need a club more local, want to follow a coach they like and believe is a good coach, think they might have more opportunities to play at a higher level and/or develop more as a player at a diff club....there are millions of reasons people leave clubs

or maybe they move because they just wanna win win win and dont care about teams that are developing..

Players move because they get treated differently at different clubs..
sometimes they move because they need better development etc that some clubs can't provide.

I think that Jaimo had it right in saying that there are many reasons for which people change clubs- normally I don't think you can read too much into it. There does seem to have been an unusually large number of girls moving around after this past season, but again I think it was probably a combination of circumstances, both individual and institutional. SHould we get back to the topic of the thread?

okay, yes, both top level. but we can't seriously compare our league to EPL
we're amateurs, we do not get paid to play at club level, and the structure is completely different. they have TWENTY clubs playing in the EPL we have, sorry what? eight. that means we have to structure our league a little differently don't you think?

and i really couldn't care less if you were questioning my opinion. we all have our own. and yes, they're allowed to be different. the fact that i only know you through this forum and reputation means, i really don't care what you think of me.

and also, when did i ever say there wasnt good reasons for players being at the clubs they are at. i mentioned location. the players around them/coaches/facilities/growth allowances/division they want to play in, all can have an impact on where players play. i know that.
