A's Fulham 1 Gardens 2
Scorers C Groom & R Marchetta
HT 1-0

Good hard fought win today by the boys. Credit to Fulham put up a tough contest all day & took a last minute winner for us to knick the win! In truth it was a tough first half but then i thought we came out & were the better side in the second half & got a good 3 points. Good returning debutes from Groomy & R Taylor, who could of got on the score sheet himself with a couple of chances.

Move on to the Downs now :D

exactly would do you consider a 'chance'??
not saying we deserved to win but just can't recall our keeper making a save today. you may also like to point out that the goals phe did get, were an own goal and a penalty awarded on the edge of the box for a cross that struck the arm of the raptors defender.
thought it was a pretty even contest overall.

Not a good start to the year for us today, but taking nothing away from Vista, i dont believe they were a five goal better team than us today.

we had a lapse of about 10 min were they put 4 away right at the start then the rest of the game was very even with both sides having oppotunities.
A great result for Modbury Vista today. Players, coaches, supporters and committee members have done a great job in preperation for this season and today got it off to a great start. A good day out at Richardson Drive. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

I think because there are 10 teams in that division and they only play each other twice (18 Rounds).
We started today (Div 5) because there are only 8 teams and we play each other 3 times (21 Rounds).

It was a fantastic win by our boys today with all off the outs...

Great 1st games back by Ross Taylor who couldv'e had a bag,
& a cracking goal by Chris Groom to bring us level...

Best on ground Paul O by a mile...

can't wait till next Sunday, Downs at home should be a belter...

headache for the coach with five to come back in....

Good to hear DownsboynownowGardensboyagain is back in the game.
The year off probably would have been good for strengthening the knee.

Yeh it was great to see Ross back in the Gold & Black Swanny having a kick again, but honestly he couldv'e had 3 or 4 today but it's his 1st game back well let him off
I think his gonna cause more than a few headaches for oppositions defences this year.

after 8 weeks of pre season and a few trials it was good to finally get the season under way yesterday.

It was a hard pitch to play on, and the weather made it even more difficult but the way we performed showed that theres some positive signs for us this season.

overall i think it was a fair result, but like popov said i cant remember our keeper making any saves. It was a well played contest with both teams fighting to the end.

our interplay at some stages of the match was excellent, and it was just a shame we couldnt create a few more chances.

looking forward to another good week on the track then vista next sunday

As for the A's. Knights really dominated the first half. Vikings scored from a defensive error. Knights scored from a good corner to bring it back level. 1-1. Vikings played well in a lot of areas but their fitness would become a problem. But in saying that they scored with a clever toe poke 10 minutes from end. The knights didnt give up at this point even though both teams were running out off puff.. The knights from another corner equalised from the last kick off the game as the vikings keeper came out, but totally missed the ball.
Overall knights deserved a win but the vikings did put up a good fight in their first div 2 game for the season.
I think your quite abit biased here, there was no point in the game that the knights dominated, if anything it was equal or if anything more in the favour of us!

Don't think the first goal was an defense error as the ball was played through to the scorer. IMO the ref was terrible I was hammered the whole game and hardly got a free, I've got the cuts, bruises and the swollen/inflamed muscles to prove it!

Btw- the first goal fir the knights should not been allowed as the knights player who scored had both his hands on my shoulders hampering me from even jumping to get the challenge in.

We have a whole new partnership up front with also a new attacking cm - as we said in the ride home, it's going to take a couple matches for us to gel!

Our fitness won't be a problem mate, the heat contributed to everyone, and we weren't flat-more like sore as hell.

If anything the Knights were lucky to get a point as in the second half the knights resorted to long shots and weren't very dangerous - we should of have killed the game off

Think your both a bit biased, draw was a fair result, Vikings first goal came when Knights failed to clear and the ball deflected right on to your feet

Thought the referee was great didn't fall for the players going down shot routine - what was with the guy in reserves who took one of the worst dives I have ever seen?

Reserves had 6 out, although we had 3 fresh players on the bench for A's ultimately A's are the main focus

Ultimately the score was 2-2 doesn't really matter who dominated or who should have done what

Knights could barley string two passes together and were fat and slow. Your keeper pulled off more saves than i did, i made probably 1 threatening shot, you hardly deserved the win.

lol, pot calling the kettle black, we should have 2 Championships the "real winners" and all those clubs that "should" have won

I think nugget you are being a bit biased with your view of the Fulham - Parafield match.

fulham had the best of the 1st half without a doubt and deserved to go in 1 up.

couple of chances to Ross were headers from the penalty spot which any half decent keeper should save which ours did.

2nd half I agree Parafield were the better side and deserved the equaliser after a sustained bit of pressure.

A draw would have been a fair result but Gardens snatched the 93rd minute winner which goes to show it is never over till it is over.

On the Ross Taylor subject he was invited to come out to Fulham in the pre-season as he knows a couple of the lads well and his exact words were that he was over the northern clubs and that he wanted to concentrate on triathlons this year but if he was to resume playing he would come out to Fulham as it was close for him.

Then he rolls up for Parafield.

Absolutely his choice but he should have had the balls to say the truth and the truth is he goes where the money is - maybe he was waiting for Fulham to make him an offer - well he can keep waiting.......

Yeah well I didnt score the goal - I passed it through to the player who did score it, it wasnt a defelection like you say - I saw our player and gave it through. I never actually said it wasnt a fair result, in fact it was you who said you that Knights dominated, but I dont think you can deny that you were lucky to come away with a draw - you did score with the last kick of the match remember!

ps. the so called "players going down shot routine" as you say is bs - the tackles were from behind and got the legs and only the legs! a couple times I didnt even have ball yet and still got butchered from behind - with NO freekick

I was plucking balls out of the air with no difficulty what-so-ever, my only error was not judging the sun, that's 100% the reason i was nowhere near it. I never said we deserved the win, i said in response to your "Really dominated the first half" comment, that you only had 1 decent shot all game.

ok, last one on this topic

1) Someone else posted that we "really dominated the first half" and if you read my post I said I didn't agree - thought draw was fair
2) Next week when your team lines up to kick of, have a gentle glance at some of your players - especially some of your defenders and then perhaps think again about the "slow and fat" comment

Good luck for the year

Nuggett read my post - ross never trained with us it was just a discussion over the phone.

It's a forum and I had my say - no sooking - no dispute over the result - just a comment over the character of Ross.

The forum doesn't just revolve around your opinions and observations nuggett - other people can have an opinion.

Ross signed & played for us not you & not for money...

you question his character on this forum because he declined your clubs offer ???

wonder why he didn't come to your club ??? or why other players will think about even speaking with your club in the future ???
