The IF Keeper was sent off for debilerate hand ball outside the box despite the fact it hit him in the head, sent his hat flying off his head and he had a blood nose. The ref told our captain, he thought is was handball. He then wouldn't talk to the linesman who told us, I didn't see it. Refereeing was poor for both teams though considering it was a game in good spirits. Lots of the guys know each other. Disappointing to lose in extra time and the send off definately changed the game. Well done and good luck to Ralph and the boys though
Chelsea fan, the circumstances I was referring to were the follwing :
1. Both teams di not field their full A squads, however the boys that stepped in for both sides played very well.
2. The Wanderers had their end of season celebrationary dinner the night before. This was already pre-booked before they were advised they needed to play in this tournament. Most of the lads had late nights, or should I say very early mornings and were in no mood to play on Sunday, especially in thise warm conditions.
3. The GK for Ingle Farm should not have been sent off, it was not a handball and the referee did not see a handball, and therfore should not have shown the red card.
4. The respect that these 2 teams have for each other is fantastic. They played the game hard and fair, even the 2 bookings that were given were given (1 to each team) were unnecessary. Alot of ex-premier and state league players (talk about an enfield re-union)
It was a very entertaining game to watch in the end, could not have asked for more commitment from both teams. The league should organise something like this as a pre-season tournament for the future.

it is frustrating timing... our end of season dinner is the night before the final and like all teams we are also missing some decent players... i think it would be better as a preseason comp too

This may come as a surprise to some, however I am not surprised that Pontian Eages were beaten on Sunday by Athelstone. There seems to be alot of talk about how good the Pontian Eagles are. Must I say that I have seen them on quite a few occasions this year and they are a very ordinary outfit.
The way Athelstone played on Sunday, anyone would have thought they were Div 3 and Pontian Eagles were Div 5.

The Farm v Wanderers game was played in very good spirit.
Both teams we under maned and the weather effected the pace of the game. Ingle Farm dominated for most of the game even when they went down to ten men they progressed to attack in numbers while the Wanderers sat back soaked it up and played longs balls to counter, hence how they scored there first 2 goal. Not a bad stratergy considering the heat and 3 or 4 we struggling from hangovers.
All in all, the game was palyed in excellent spirit. Shame about the send off beacuse it changed the game and the outcome. No doubt the Farm would have won with 11 players, but these thing happen, the ref was a tool and we move on.
There ere no hard feeling between the teams after the game and both teams enjoyed a drink after the game with each other to ponder wot ifs.

The Wanderers were very unlucky to have not been up 4-0 at the break. They missed 4 golden opportunities to put the game beyond doubt. I don't believe that IF woould have won with 11 players however, at the same time, the Wanderers were very lucky in extra time as a open goal opportunity was missed by one of the Ingle Farm strikers.
Athelstone
Well done to Athelstone. Teams in the higher divisions should keep an eye on this team as they will walk Div 4 next year. THere are some good players there at the moment, for Athelstone's sake I hope they stay as this club will end up climbing back to where it belongs.
The Farm coach could probably says the same thing. Hell finishing has been our problem all year. That's football...
At least the long seaon is over. Would have been good to win but life goes on.
All in all I don't really think most teams take this serious anyay, would have been better to play as a pre-season cup. Players may be more interested to play then as they have positions they are playing for.

Especially harsh on Wanderers, don't they still have 2 league games to play too? Mind you we started this competition as well before the end of the league season

Similar thing in Division 5 with the Northern United vs Ghan game not being played... definately affects top goalscorer (although in Athelstones favour)

I guess SAASL have now seen the problems of having sauch a large amount of teams as in Sat Div 2
Athelstone SC - http://www.athelstonesc.com
That would be good... in Div 5 we have 7 teams and a bye and for the reserves there was no Gawler reserve team so we only played 15 games in the 21 rounds (exlcuding forfeits...)
