Mourinho: Italy will be happy...

Post by BAGGIO 15 »

Jose Mourinho was bitter at the media rather than Manchester United. “All of Italy will be happy Inter went out.”

The Nerazzurri boss has been engaged in an increasingly nasty battle with the Italian newspapers and continued it after the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

“All of Italy will be happy that Inter went out. I don't care, though. I know that I won,” said Mourinho.

“I am not angry, just sad. Before laying a finger on my team, they have to go over my dead body.

“We did not have the luck that is needed to win these big games. It's a shame for those who had never won this trophy and wanted to achieve that.”

Mourinho was drafted in to improve on Roberto Mancini's European record, but Inter went out in the second round for the third year running.

“If Inter had a problem of fear towards the Champions League, then tonight they proved that it is no longer an issue.

“We are missing something to win this competition, but I will explain that to the club.”

Nemanja Vidic took advantage of slack defending after four minutes to give United the lead, then Cristiano Ronaldo had a similar header at the start of the second half.

“We had a great reaction after going 1-0 down and United were scared, but then that second goal came out of nowhere.

“Adriano had the chance to make it 2-1 and frighten Manchester again, but it hit the post. We only went out because of bad luck. I qualified here with Porto with a weaker performance.

“In any case, now we will absolutely without doubt win the Scudetto.”

if I was you I'd rather see us lose in the later stages, helps Juve bridge the gap.

Interesting translation though, doesn't come across as the same as the following maybe the media thought the interview was a bit boring and had to cut it to spice it up  who would have thought
After shaking hands with every Manchester United player after Wednesday night's Champions League round of sixteen return, José Mourinho analysed his team's performance at Old Trafford.

"I'm not angry," he told Italian journalists. "You're angry and frustrated when your team doesn't play, when it doesn't express its qualities, or when it's afraid of playing. This is the kind of match after which, if anyone has anything to criticise my team about, they would have to kill me first because Inter were fantastic tonight, but it's not easy to play at Old Trafford and unfortunately luck wasn't on our side."

Inter reacted in the best possible way against United after conceding goals in the fourth minute of each half. "You could feel the fear (in the home crowd), but then that goal came at the start of the second half. A fantastic goal, but a goal that was a consequence of our defence's not brilliant preparation for high balls. My team showed great personality, had many chances for an equaliser, including Adriano's, and I think even he doesn't understand why the ball didn't go in.

"I saw a team with great personality and this why I'm sad now for who has never won this competition, and who won't have the chance to do it this year either, and for the fans who watched the game at home and those who followed us here to Manchester. I'm sad, but very confident that the Scudetto will be ours. We played against a great team and now I can say that if Inter suffered from a psychological complex in these big games, like they said, this fear is no longer there. Perhaps we can attribute the defeat to a footballing problem but I won't discuss this with you, I will do it with my club. I understand your culture, maybe the whole of Italy is happy because Inter have been knocked out of the Champions League, but I will give the club all the necessary replies because it's true that we didn't win today but I can say that we were unlucky. I won in this stadium with Porto by fighting a lot less.

"Manchester United were stronger than us, but our play and effort deserve a lot more than a 2-0. It was a completely different match to the first leg. Inter played with confidence and tranquillity, made a mistake from a dead-ball situation but it's not possible to change a reality that sees six Manchester players one metre and ninety tall, and just one Inter player as tall as them. The team did very well on the pitch, we played in three different ways, we did everything to change the result of the match, we were unlucky, but I saw an Inter that played with personality and this is fundamental. Not being frightened of nothing or anyone is fundamental."
I don't like lies. I have understood your market where sometimes lies sell more than truth. This is your life and I don't like it. I understand your work and I have to work with you, but the protection of my group is much more important than you

I think of late the have one players in their starting 11 and 1 on the bench, no wonder Italy hates them. They are based in Italy , but are in no way Italian, abit like Arsenal not being English.

Heard on radio that he took a swipe (maybe a punch) at a Man U supporter after they were chanting, "you're no longer the special one".
