Saturday division One

Post by a1079978 »

Any predictions on which teams will be the main forces this year for Saturday division one?

The African United Allstars have renamed their club the United Allstars, with the intention of showing they are not a club open exclusively to Africans.

What about Sturt Marion? They won Div 2 convincingly and had recruited well with a lot of players from Stirling (or so I heard) and now that they have had a year together they could be serious contenders.

I'd say, not knowing the recruitments of all the clubs that the usual suspects will be up there (Wanderers, St Peters & Stirling + Villa & maybe Sturt), Gleeson & Africa to bow out at the end of it...

Anyone prepared to reveal any signings or pre-season rumours..?

If you compare Sturt's promotion statistics from Div 2 P 22 W 17 D 2 L 3 F 77 A 33 Diff 44 Pts 53 against Wanderers promotion statistics in 2006 from Div 2 P22 W 18 D 3 L 1 F 86 A 22 Diff 64 Pts 57 you'd say Sturt'd be up there.

When you compare Sturt's & Wanderer's results with Iggies who won Div 2 in 2007 P 18 W 16 D 1 L 1 F 88 A 24 Diff 64 Pts 49 you wonder why they were relegated at the end of their promotion season.

Hawksey...?

Wanderers missed out winning div one in first year of promotion in last game of the season against the eventual champions, Stirling. I have heard that the boys who left Stiring to play for Sturt last year have returned to Stirling this year or gone to new clubs - true......?

Either Wanderers, Saints or Villa to win it.

Villa are my favourite - especially with their formidable line up and David Tassone back in the squad.

The Iggies team that won Div 2 that year would have been top 4 in Div 1. Unfortunately, the team that won Division 2 didn't stick around / got older. Our defence let us down last year significantly.

The boys that went to sturt are still there...Think you will find they will pretty much have the same team from last year for this year..

hard to say without knowing who has picked up who etc.. Obviously you would expect saints and wanderers to be up there again though.

You'd hope that Villa would have sorted out a decent playing field this year. All credit to them for going up to Div 1, but their goat track of a ground was probably the worst in the league.

this conversation happened this time last year and they spoke of all the work they had done to improve the surface.

football is played on grass, not paper although not at villa's home ground.

not seen villa play since 07, seeing that they didn't win div 2, it makes me wonder who they have picked up.

Last year villa never even looked like winning the second div..They had to win the last game of the season to be promoted to the 1st div..Last year sturt knocked them out the cup and beat them 5-1 and 3-0 if i remember correctly. Also were cup semi finalist knocking out st peters and ingle farm on the way.Dnt know if they can win 1st div but i would think they would be finishing above villa...

Whoever finishes on top, wins!   I would assume that St Peters, Villa, Sturt Marion, Wanderers and even BOSA would be in or around the mark. They are all well organised, have depth and tend to get the most out of players. Who ever has the most luck, will win!

Spot on, by crimpin you're brake lines :D

Looking good at training so far which counts for nothing at this stage. Everyone retained from last years squads and are using 09 as a year to consolidate our position amongst the Saturday elite. We are training at our home ground at Samuel Johnson Reserve but our ground is being torn up and resurfaced properly at our request giving the pitch a rest for the whole season (they are watering it this time). Playing at West lakes not sure on exact location.

New faces and boys that have returned to the club
Billy Karapetis (Pontians)
Dave Tassone (Cumberland)
Mark Scalzi (NAB)
Dom Musci (played last few rounds of last year bagged 8 goals) have him from round 1
Steve Teresenco spelling??? (USC Lion)

4 -6 further new faces of quality that don't look out of place at all, not sure on names.

Preparing for a fantastic year in a tough competition, good luck to all. :D

Tarasenko - Very handy pick up.

Great additions to any squad, but I can see a younger side running over the top of the older Villa boys.
