Why should cup winners host the event? Should it not be played on a neutral venue?

That's not such a bad idea, provided the host has some reasonable facilities.

Many div 1 clubs have better facilities than Grange, certainly better at Gardens.

They won the league granted, but in the Champion of Champions the Vale thought it was a Small Sided Game and thought 9 players might be sufficient.

You right Jay it shouldnt be about crowd numbers it should be about a Shield that for 25+ years has been Sunday Div 1 Winners v Cup Winners... was Ingle Farm informed of the change?

From a club perspective we will miss out on alot of $$ with it being v the Wanderers, so you can see Jay that if you were in this boat as Chairman you also would be thinking what would be best for your club & that would be a local derby v's the current league champions with a bumper crowd = $$$

No I think a club should be able to enjoy the spoils of the $$$ by hosting it.

The reason I think it should be the Cup Winner hosting it is because all clubs have the chance to win the Cup where as Champion of Champion is only Sunday and Saturday Div 1 clubs. The second reason is because the Cup Final and Semi final are played at Grange and the clubs can't host those games and make money over the bar. For clubs like ours, it costs us a fortune winning the cup in all the free drinks we give away.

Also can we get a better name than Champion of Champions

We weren't told offically but yes last year we were told when I asked what was happening with the Champion of Champions competition that more than likely the winner would play the winner of the cup in the Cich Cup.

I have no doubt that Gardens would make more money by playing the Vale, no one can argue that. My favourite three games of the year are when we play Vale, Downs and Para Hills West because we take the most money over the bar then. Man Utd make more money when Arsenal visit them rather than when the play Middlesbrough. But this isn't a club decision, its a league decision and the decision should be based on whats fair, not on who is going to make the most money from it.

Also, reverse the situation. What if Wanderers moved to Div 1 and won the league and Downs had move to Saturdays and won Sat Div 1 and won the Champions of Champions. Under the old system you would be playing Wanderers and the new system you would be playing the Downs. Would Gardens be campagining for change then. I know Downs wont ever move but lets say Wanderers became a really popular club and had a crowd of 600 every week come to their games, would you still think its better to play the Vale rather than Wanderers. Sunday may not be the most popular league forever with the biggest following.

Besides you guys dont need the money. I think we should host the game and you can play both Vale and Wanderers.

I heard a lot of people saying CofC doesn't mean much when a Saturday team wins, but the same people are prepared to bring out the list of Sunday winners when bragging rights are up for grabs.

It was unfortunate Vale lost it during that game, Wanderers were 1-0 down then going 2-1 up before Vale's first send off it was looking like a fantastic game for everyone except for the coaches :)

There was a lot riding on the game too, not just bragging rights but medals for the lads, a trophy in the cabinet and some much needed $$$ for the club.

I was wondering why you said the cup winners should host it so thanks for the explanation. Technically all teams ave the chance to participate in the CofC match - they just have make they way up to the top division and win it, which takes more effort than winning a cup.

Parafield Gardens being the successful sporting club that it is has both its Cricket Teams playing in the finals this year following last weekends games. The dates of the finals conflict with the Cichanowski & Round 1 games and we have asked the laegue if the Cichanowski Shield can be played a week prior on Sunday 15th March. Their answer was if your opponent agrees then thats fine.

Having rang the Vale (the team we ARE playing) they kindly allowed the match to be rescheduled being the great sporting club they are too.

Special thanks to Brooksy for his understanding :D

Just a thought...
With the numbers of Saturday teams increasing, maybe it could be time to have 2 Cup competitions, one for Saturday Teams and one for Sunday Teams.
The 2 Cup winners could play a challenge either at the end of that season

Keep the Champion of Champions going as per normal Saturday Div 1 Champs v Sunday Div 1 Champs.

Then at the start of the following season have Saturday Cup Winners v Saturday Div 1 Champions <insert name> Shield .
and Sunday Cup Winners v Sunday Div 1 Champions - Cichanowski Shield.

Or reintroduce a Templin Cup type pre-season competion with 4 or 5 teams from Saturday and the same from Sunday.(with a few night games where possible).

Elizabeth Vale v Parafield Gardens at home in the Cichanowski Shield that's fantastic news for our club & the game.

I feel a little sorry for the Wanderers & can understand them feeling hard done by if they were told that they were playing in it.

It will be a massive game & huge start to the 2009 season!
